There are protests in U.S. and in France and all over the world and none of them are sexually harassed during protest, but only in Egypt. And you will find that Egypt's muslim population is 95%. This tell you as much. In fact, the men targetted the cover up women, because they know this type of women are docile and they won't dare to report to family due to family's honour or will be killed by family member. They dare not even report to police because of family's honour. You know why China had low crime rate. It is because rapists are executed, corrupt officials are executed; so more criminals executed, less crimes. Whereas in Egypt, police will not bother about sexual harassment because these policemen themselves could even the ones who did the same thing or corrupted and easily bribed to not investigate them. In Islam rape is way bigger crime, so if islamic laws where cause of it, why married men commit rape? Aren't they having enough of their physical satisfaction. I don't view men as an animal who can't live without satisfying themselves, if anything prostitution are legal in some countries why do they rape. Desire, clothes or even marriage (marital rape) are most pathetic excuse men could give for rape. A rapist is a rapiest and no reason will ever be enough to justify rape. And if people like you requires religion to justify rape, then we need to really consider where the heck is our societies walking.

I've been to Egypt. Spent three months there as a woman traveling alone. But it didn't take me long to realize that I needed to stay with other women, or a man I knew, as much as possible. There is a train car just for women. If you're female, use it. It is for your own safety. My shoulders and legs were always covered but once when I was in Luxor there was a wedding celebration going on. These celebrations are separated by the sexes. This group was all men and I sensed that if I tried to walk through them, there was a good chance that I would be sexually assaulted. I wisely waited until a group of foreigners were also passing through and walked through with them. The country is sexually repressed so men look at you like a piece of meat and if in a group will use that power to take your's away. Overall, besides one incident where a man commented on my behind, I didn't have any issues but I also don't immediately look like a foreigner.

He made men look like they have the mental status of an animal who has no logic, moral or control. If you need to live in a controlled enviroment that lacks any kind of temptation for you to be moral , it's a sign that you are deeply immoral. A moral , respectful person will remain so under any circumstance.

I lived in Alexandria for 8 years...not a day went by that I didn't face some sort of sexual harassment. That includes during my pregnancies, pushing a pushchair with my kids, walking in the street, in taxis, on the tram...everywhere. I was groped, punched in my face, spat at, verbally insulted, I even had pornography played down my landline. I'm a streetwise London girl (woman) who does martial arts and speaks Arabic, I understood the culture . Final straw was when adult men started coming on to my 7 year old daughter. I've lived and breathed that sick life in Egypt. I had friends in full hijab who suffered equally. It wasn't because I was a foreigner, it was because I was a woman.
@ampa4989 Жыл бұрын
I wrote this in another thread, but I had a wonderful tourist visit to Egypt ten years . Just loved it. The people were wonderful and especially kind to little children. I think, in a way, Egyptians may be politer to foreign women. Maybe if you lived there and spoke Arabic, they'd expect you to become one of them, wearing a niqab and maybe not even working. I didn't really see strollers so they might have even found pushchairs to be ridiculous, like maybe women are always supposed to be home with young children unless out with the husband. I'm not saying you deserved to be harassed, just that maybe the bar for harassment is actually lower for local women and expats.

Very typical of Arab men. You are right: it's because you are a woman. Plain simple. I always find it disgusting how RELIGIOUS they are and how much they "worship" "allah". Lol how hypocritical. E. Lin When you provide an opposing claim, please back it up with evidence. Disclose it all to me, what about sexual assault and rape is influenced by Islam? When Islam takes very seriously the honor and protection of women, and the Quran repeatedly reminds men to treat women with kindness and fairness. During the lifetime of the Prophet Muhammad, a rapist was punished based on only the testimony of the victim. Wa'il ibn Hujr reported that a woman publicly identified a man who had raped her. The people caught the man and brought him to the Prophet Muhammad. He told the woman to go-*that she was not to be blamed*-and ordered that the man be put to death. If you probe more into the matter, you’d realize it’s merely you taking things out of their intended context. Review your own self, I’m still waiting for the missing evidence.

As a child, my cousin and I were sexually assaulted and carried around like a piece of meat. We were at a fairground. I remember when we were at the top of the Ferris wheel, I turned to my cousin and said, where are all the families gone, I don't see any women. She looked and noticed too, being tougher then me, she said when we come off to look down and head straight to the gate. We did but it wasn't until 2 3 4 steps later the hungry grinning crowds of men would not let us move an inch. She grabbed me and said, to the bathrooms. There's always a lady working there, she will know what to do. Omg the journey that would have take a minute felt like forever. Being small we tried to be quick between the pocket spaces, heads down. When we reached the bathroom, we literally had to fight hard on those last steps before going in. We told the lady in three bathroom we were scared, and needed to get out. She said that we'd better leave and do it now because it will get more crowded. At that point, the banging on the door of laughing men telling us to come out. The lady told us to fight as hard as we could and to not stop moving forward to the nearest stop.... candy shop, one of the rides, that one of the male workers would help us. We both made a little prayer, held on tight to eachothers hands and she opened the door, some of the men fell on the floor when she flung the door open. She yelled out loud appealing to their decency that we were only children. The first few at the front smiled in a creepy way and said to her, so let them go the little beauties. We could hear her yelling at them while we both tried to forcefully slide through the bodies blocking the way down the stairs. We were separated, I saw her body being carried like a prize above their heads, we both screamed out to each other. I remember her saying bite scratch kick!!! And all I could do was crouch down on the stairs crying looking and pleading to them please please please we want to go home please. They all laughed 😔 I was carried over a sea of bodies, hands hands hands everywhere. A sea of hands.it was horrible. And the laughter. Hands and laughter, the image and sounds I can never forget. There was no mercy to be found in any. I was 11 😔

The lower you go socially, the more people you will find treating women more or less as you described but when you go up you will be surprised to know that this is actually not true. I was raised in a middle class family with a sister and a brother. My sister always got as much attention as me and brother combined, she wasn't forced to do anything against her will, she received an allowance more than the two of us combined. She attended private schools while we attended public ones and me and my brother totally encouraged that because we wanted our sister to have the best in everything. I know a huge number of middle-class families, friends and relatives where girls also receive the same kind of treatment. The problem now that the middle-class are not that big. Lower classes dominate Egypt, not that there is anything wrong with them but this leads us to the actual true problem, the whole reason why this is not happening, there is no punishment! There is no actively implemented law that punish harassers, it political corruption as you heard on the video that doesn't want to make swift laws to combat this. The reality is that, people are not animals, people are just people and women were always being oppressed under men when there were no laws to preserve her rights. Take the most advanced country now and remove the implementation of sexual harassment laws and you will discover a very sad truth indeed.

The fact that patriarchy(sexist domination) is rampant in Egypt and it is the motivation behind these attacks on women. Those women are coming face-to-face with males who have been raised to think that women are objects who can be used and abused instead of respected. There is also a religious component to this, where the religion reinforces the violence toward the women, because the religion is male-dominated and men set the rules.

So I'm Egyptian, but I rarely visit. After an 11 year stay in the USA, my family decided to take a trip back. Let me tell you, the amount of sexism I encountered was nuts. For instance, we went to the police station in order to get our IDs done. As my mother was taking out her own for identity purposes, the security guard started screaming and yelling at her saying, "How dare you take out your ID before your husband!". I know fucking ridiculous, my mom was honestly too shocked to talk back, so we all just played it cool to not get in a fight. That station also had two lines, one male and the other female. When I asked my mother why, she said that it's to prevent women from getting sexually harassed. The fact that this is common enough for them to do that is mind boggling, but I won't say I'm surprised.

I visited a friend who lived near the City of London. This is now an overwhelmingly Muslim area. I am white and dress modestly by Western standards. I am generally thought to have more balls than a circus juggler, but I have to admit that when walking round the area I felt really intimidated. The men would leer at you in a way that was sexual, but also angry, contemptuous and on the edge of violent. I'm embarrassed to admit it, especially as I am English and from London, but I avoided walking around on my own. I had to wear a big, long coat in the Summer. I used to call it my burka.
