"...because I'm a rebel". LOL 😂Great video. Will try this technique today. Would have loved to see the strips placed in a straight line vs a spiral but I'm sure the crackle is just as nice when not wrapped. Thanks for the tips!

I have been looking for a tutorial for this technique for a while and am so glad I found yours. It is very nicely done and looks easy. I will really enjoy using this technique since I just purchased the Makins' Professional Extruder and have been using it since it arrived a few days ago. I love your pendants, thanks so much for sharing this. So glad I know how to do it now. Love all your tips and tricks.

Hi Val! love your videos and your musings. Hope this will be a helpful tidbit for you: if you can get a table vise to place the extruder into, it will be so much easier to extrude. Both of your hands will be able to work the turning mechanism, which will feel much easier than holding the thing in one hand and turning with the other. I tried extruding with the Walnut Hollow (just did two medium sized rolls) and my hands hurt for days. When I got the vise it made all the difference in the world. Also, I did say the heck with it and bought myself a combo birthday/holiday gift of the czextruder - with that one, even holding in the hand was easy and a total breeze when that one is in the vise. Happy claying! And thank you for sharing this terrific technique with us! ;-)

Thanks! I do think it would be nice not to have to struggle like that LOL. The Czextruder would be a great Christmas gift from someone to me... xx

Fimo, Premo... The main thing is that it's nice and cool (rest it after extruding) so that it cracks. I hope I haven't contradicted my video there... It's been a while since I did this last and I am not motivated to watch myself today lol. xx

@UnrulyHousewife
@UnrulyHousewife 8 жыл бұрын
Hey no worries, I'm always happy to answer questions. I got mine from Amazon (as ever) Sculpey make them but there are other kinds. They are called "Tissue Blades" (I think they were originally used in medical labs to slice thin tissue samples) - knowing what they are called will probably help you to find them. If not, do ask again and I'll try to help.

Love this look!!! I just have 2 questions: 1) is it cracking because of the brand of clay you’re using or because of the extruding/pasta machine used? 2) after baking, do you use any type of varnish/top layer to protect the pendant? Great video!!!
@UnrulyHousewife
@UnrulyHousewife 6 жыл бұрын
You can varnish it if you want to but there is no need. I think it looks nicer NOT varnished. It's cracking because I deliberately didn't fully condition the clay. I find Fimo cracks more but it will work with other clays. xx

Love this technique 😍 have just one question pls... when putting the clay snakes through the pasta machine do they all come out uniform ? Thank you 😊
@UnrulyHousewife
@UnrulyHousewife 5 жыл бұрын
If you make them the same size from the extruder and roll them through on the same setting on your pasta machine, they will be pretty uniform. Keep them straight and don't pull on them, then you'll be OK.

When do you use the pasta machine?
@UnrulyHousewife
@UnrulyHousewife 2 жыл бұрын
Sorry to have taken so long. I run the snakes of clay through it, on a medium settings, so that they are flat enough to crack at the edges. This creates the interesting texture when they are coiled.
