I'm thinking this would be great for coasters too! Could do them with seashells or celestial or nature themes too.

Hi Val - if your red cutter is plastic, you can take sandpaper and sand the bottom of it! It will sharpen it up so it will cut clay crisper! Not my idea...someone else's but thought I'd share! God bless❤

how long do you put piece back in oven for 2nd time? once the tls and pastel are on it?
@UnrulyHousewife8 жыл бұрын
Brie Tier You need to do a whole bake, according to the clay manufacturer's instructions. So for me, using Fimo, that's 30 mins.
@UeFdblU88c8 жыл бұрын
Unruly Housewife so you do a 15 min bake, then put pastel on then 30 mins? or 15 min pastel then 15 min?
@UnrulyHousewife8 жыл бұрын
Brie Tier 15 to harden it up so you can work on it... but then 30, because it needs a whole bake, in one go, to make it strong. I actually emailed the makers of Fimo to get that advice. x

Thank you! I'm in the UK, so I used Americana DuraClear Gloss Varnish, which is very good. If you are in the USA you'll have more choices - I'd recommend looking on a website called The Blue Bottle Tree, for lots of brilliant technical advice and a whole section on varnishes/glazes.
Thanx for sharing you're amazing can we use porcline dough instead of ploymer clay cause I don't have it .. if it yes we do the same steps after dough dry in air thanx alot
@UnrulyHousewife7 жыл бұрын
The problem with that would be the liquid clay needs to be baked... so if the porcelain clay is OK in the oven go for it but I think it might not be. xx

I full on enjoy your videos as your personality is shared so greatly with us, not seemingly hidden. Your great! That being said lol I like the technique so much but am confused...you mix the pastel into the liquid clay and cover the piece...yet much of it stays white which is very good, but how?? How is the color only going into some of it? I know this video is several years old so you nay not get my comments right away. I've been doing clay for 2 years and saw new videos from you, but not in several months. I hope that you are well and that your world is treating you fantastically!
@UnrulyHousewife2 жыл бұрын
Once the liquid is settled in the indentation, I use a flat blade to sweep any excess off the raised pattern. Pretty sure that's in the video... Did you skip through? Naughty. 😂

@@UnrulyHousewife no, I didn't skip through, not even a sneeze!! 😁😁 well not that I recall.....lol But, that explains it! I'll watch again and be doubly inspired!! Tialisa, you can mix a very small amount of mineral oil or baby oil (DROP or two) with white or translucent clay until it's gooey. You don't need much, just smash the clay into the oil over and over and over. Try a small piece of clay the size of your littlest fingernail and mix it with the oil. You can then shave some soft pastels into the goop, or alcohol ink, or even acrylic paint. These are very small amounts. If it works well for you, you can make more. Store it in a small 'paint pot' or something similar. FYI: I just bought a tall bottle of Kato liquid clay on Amazon that was cheaper than the small bottle of the Sculpey, and way cheaper than the Fimo liquid.
@Telenaus8 жыл бұрын
i tried that but doesnt make a very translucent paint & i still had to seal it,and the pastels in the modge pode was ok-ish lol does the kato bond well with the other clays?

Hello, what a great technique! Thank you so much for sharing 🤗 I know this is an old video so I have no idea if you'll answer but... Can I mix alcohol inks with the liquid clay and get the same effect? I read all the the comments and couldn't find anyone else who asked this question. Thanks again.
@UnrulyHousewife4 жыл бұрын
Hi and thanks! Yes it's possible to use alcohol inks but what people do is to let the alcohol evaporate off, before mixing the colour in, if that makes sense. You want the lovely tones but you don't want a load of alcohol in your liquid clay. xx

Jackie Underwood You could try food colouring....
@merryclicker8 жыл бұрын
Jackie, You can also try the (many) colors of magic markers. Just scribble the color where you want it, spritz or drip alcohol on them and they will spread, and fill, and do neat things. They are a permanent marker but alcohol based. Yes, the ones from the dollar store will do the same. There is a video on KZbin where (Mo Clay?) scribbles markers on gold leaf and spritzes it with alcohol. It should do the same on baked clay. Worth a test.
