I ran a 1/4 drill bit and then hand turned a 17/64 bit through mine and now energel fits perfect with no appreciable change to the fit of the original S-Gel refill.

​@unsharpen Nope. Ran the 1/4 slowly and carefully in the drill, then slowly hand turned the 17/64. You may have to back it out a few times to get shavings out of the way... but slowly and carefully, you should have little trouble. I would not expect to keep from ruining the pen trying to run the 17/64 actually chucked in a drill. Make sure the spring is out, of course...

​@@Lepon5I used some pointy ish looking pliers and I just turned it inside of the actual tip slowly so I didn't damage anything and now I'm able to use 0.7 energel and it literally took not even 2 minutes to do. It's so close to fitting these refills you don't have to do much work at all I promise.

Have never been a fan of the S Gels. I wanted to like them so badly, but they have always been very unreliable, rough, and I have a particular issue with railroading. On the note of this particular copper S Gel, I think it’s likely copper plated aluminum. I assume it would be cost prohibitive to mass produce a pen that uses solid copper (even a thin exoskeleton, which is why I firmly believe it’s just a plating) Thanks for the hours of information and entertainment. You are my go-to channel for all things pen related. I have followed many of your recommendations and have always been totally happy. My favorites have been the Ohto Ceramic 1.0, EnerGel 1.0mm LR10C, and the Monteverde broad ceramic refills. I use a Pilot G2 1.0mm a ton as well which I love. Thanks again Sal!

Thanks for the thoughtful comment. Yes, I believe too that it’s copper coated aluminum. It’s not heavy enough to be full copper but the grip does have a nice weight. And great pens/refills. I have been using the ohtos a lot lately.

@@andrewn7365 railroading is when it looks like there are two lines instead of one solid line when you write. More common with broader points and fountain pens.

So, of course I ordered/bought one. I have the other versions, too. This one is 28g. The original plastic one is 11g. The previous metal one is 17g. How mathematically progressive!!! It's the little things. I do like the pen. Thanks for featuring!

Interesting offering, I do really like some of these "executive" type ballpoints, but I always find the branding on it a bit much. Even the Pilot S20 has this, in my opinion, kind of tacky branding around the middle trim ring with text. The F701 a great pen option with minimal branding on it, though. I do really like the design on the s gel grip though, it looks pretty cool. Very much like if the original sgel was just completely turned into metal.

Some absolutely have no problem fitting them and some are just too tight. I bought four of them and three have no problem fitting those but the other one that doesn't fit I just use sarasa grand

I know a bic gel pen is also too narrow for a G2 or Energel refill, so those might also fit.

I agree with the comments on they write scratchy for me, but I don't need to write small or fine anymore. So give me a Pentel Energel 1.0mm that spreads like a 1.6mm -wonderful and I will stick with my Zebra Sarasa Grand's and the G series 350/450's these are so smooth. I am done with the scratchy younger years of my life.

Hello was hoping you could help. Looking for a refillable .5 ballpoint pen. I’d prefer .3 but I bought a pack of jet streams and only 3 worked out of six. I guess oil really can’t run that fine. Anyway I’d like to keep each refill under $10, any suggestions, please and thank you. So far I’m considering the Acro ink line (no gel) my job uses waterproof paper. Rain pens seem to not be available less than 1.0.

I would have rathered silver than the copper; the brightness/shininess is really "in your face". Disappointed that it doesn't take Energel refills but happy to know that it's compatible with the Uni UMN-155 and UMR gel refills, so consumers have a choice of colored ink. Thanks for the video!

don't worry about the shine, part of the appeal of a copper pen is that it'll patina over time in a pattern that is unique to you.

This is going to be like a long paragraph but I'll start here, I waited I guess you could say too long to get the first pens and they sold out pretty quick on Amazon so I want on eBay to go look and I saw that there was one on sale but with the packaging compared to what I saw online I was a little suspicious so I bought it anyways knowing that I could lose 16 bucks which I just was okay with. Even Sharpie themselves email me back when I asked them saying it was the copper pen, when I did get the pen it was definitely a copper Sharpie but it had sample written on the back, this sample version of the Sharpie copper pen smelt like copper strongly and it patina aggressively almost immediately that is definitely not happening with the brand new versions that I got from Amazon LOL as far as people complaining about the refills I think because they made thousands of these a lot of these can for energel, When I got the four that I got from Amazon finally 3/4 had no problem fitting energel, it was a little tight but it had no problem going in now the fourth one you couldn't fit it whatsoever unless you would maybe use a drill bit so I think it's just a flaw that happened from them making so many since they already sold a few thousand and just a matter of 30 days or more. I also use Sarasa that fits with no problem as uniball 1 and another uniball as well. It's a shiny copper plated pen, I don't understand why so many people are expecting more than something that cost $10 it's meant to look shiny that's what brand new copper is and it will patina over time I think it's an awesome pen especially for everyday carry and I bought a couple for my mom who is a doctor and she loves having a copper pen for obvious reasons. No it's not perfect but I love the fact that Sharpie actually decided to make something that no company is doing whatsoever. In a lot of people love using copper materialized things especially in the EDC world.

I've never understood the Sharpie S-gel, but also this is a bit of a roundabout way to market a "luxurious" pen since Wikipedia says that Sharpie's company also own Papermate. It would have been a much shorter road to make a fancy Papermate, since they used to make fancy Papermate Profiles. I bet that the pen was originally designed to be rose gold but was later marketed as a copper pen.

It is only a fake copper color. Even an electroplated copper would oxidize and tarnish over time. Think of a new penny... which has an actual copper jacket. This isn't real copper.

@@unsharpen I seriously doubt that. Calling that pen "copper" is extremely misleading. I have a real, full copper, machined Karas Ink V2 and that thing is extremely heavy, tarnishes over time and it looks like actual copper ('cause it is). The Sharpie S Gel "Copper" is some cheap metal with a color that's vaguely reminiscent of copper, not to talk about all the internal plastic components. Given that some of those plastic parts will eventually fail, one is better off just sticking with the regular sharpie pens, or upgrading to a machined pen for durability.

It's literally just copper plating on top of brass that's all it is. I don't know why other people have these expectations of it being an actual full Copper pen clearly it's not going to be a full Copper pen that's way too expensive and plus it's not like this is meant to be some type of EDC pain that comes from a CNC machine I don't know why people keep insinuating that Sharpie is trying to mislead anyone it's a basic $10 pen that does have copper properties.

@@waynegreen7634 It's not even copper plating as that would oxidize... it's just a "copper colored" pen. There is prob 0% real copper. Plus, real copper could be problematic, as many people stick pens or chew their pens, and that's a no-no for copper, as your saliva is slightly acidic.
