Unused Kasumi confidant events - Persona 5 Royal

Judging from these events, Kasumi's confidant ( maybe rank 1 to 5 only ? ) were supposed to be automatic like Akechi in vanilla Persona 5. Please tell me your thoughts. Credit to Pan-Hime for finding these events ! twitter.com/regularpanties

I think I prefer it the way we have it. I assume that Kasumi would've originally been the only prerequisite to the 3rd semester (aka the 3rd semester was probably not optional originally as probably Maruki would've also been automatic and Akechi was already automatic or maybe Akechi and Maruki's confidant wouldn't have mattered for unlocking the 3rd semester), so atleast this way we have both the endings of Persona 5 in Royal, making Royal the best value so that new fans don't need to buy both. Even if my above theory is false, it's better to have Akechi, Maruki and Kasumi be optional, since Maruki/Akechi (I don't remember which one) said in game that the situation leading to the third semester was extreme coincidences after coincidences. It feels more authentic if those coincidences are optional and not fixed in story (you're making those coincidences happen and if they don't, then they don't). If those coincidences HAVE TO HAPPEN, then they won't feel like coincidences anymore.

I mean even without these scenes, The game makes it pretty obvious they are shipping these two hard (not that I have a problem with it) and plus none of these cutscenes have anything to do with romance, all i've seen so far is Joker just helping her out for some stuff, but that's about it.

“I hope [the Phantom Thieves] can help me.” I find this really interesting as she criticises the PT during the cafe event with Akechi in July. I wonder if this means she was intended to have a slightly different opinion of them. I also found Mishima’s emphasis on the pair dating fascinating. it hints more towards a “canon” romance route with her. Great work as always, Faz-senpai! :D

I remember in the beginning of the first trailer, there's an animated cutscene where Joker is in the middle of Shibuya where time is stopped and you can hear Kasumi's voice through the monitor. It ended up not being used in the game, so I wonder what their plans for that scene originallt were.

Trailers are always edited to create interest and hype, at the beginning of PV#1 Akechi's endgame talk where you give Maruki his calling card is presented as if he said those things in the interrogation room (echo and everything). I'm fairly positive Sumire's "I'm responsible.." was originally from her reveal and the one who was supposed to be talking in the cutscene was Maruki.

Well, from the rumors I saw at Shujin before it was revealed Kasumi was actually Sumire, a lot of students seem to either admire or dislike her. The guys think she's beautiful and are attracted to her, but the girls show jealousy to her for her good looks, gymnastics abilities, and seemingly a teacher's pet. I remember when Kasumi and Joker were under an umbrella together, the Shujin girls were jealous that Kasumi supposedly had a handsome guy like Joker as her boyfriend. Reminds me of Minako and how I kept seeing that the girls at Gekkoukan High were implied to be jealous of her for being pretty, smart, popular, and outgoing to boot, enough to attract the popular and best looking guys at school such as Akihiko and Ryoji. It was even to the point that the female students would give her dirty looks when she was showing Theo around the school, even though she was only showing Theo around the school and he wasn't even a student at Gekkoukan.

Being serious, I can see why you compare this too. You can say.. that Atlus took some things of Minako and include them into the character design of Kasumi/Sumire.

I feel like some of these scenes can be put into the main game, just by removing certain sections of them or the like. It would certainly give Kasumi some more relevance in the game.

I agree. She was all hyped up as the new phantom thief, when she wasn't even really an official phantom thief and was only playable the third semester. Not only that, I literally forgot that she was in the game at times. i don't hate her and I thought the plot twist with her was really good but other than that, she was an okay character in the end. She could of been a lot better.

OctorokHero Her implementation didn’t felt organic enough and I think it was bc Atlus was afraid to change the “main” story to shape it around this new scenario. As much as I like Kasumi she felt forced into a story already defined

I actually think that the way they implemented Sumi into the story was one of the best ways the could've done it. After all we just need to look at watch happened with Marie in P4G. They pushed her character too hard into the plot and ended up being really disliked by many, so they probably decided to not push Sumi too hard into the story and instead add an extra story for her, and that ended up being a great choice. And of course it could've been done even better but that applies to many things. The way she and pancake boy were handled in the third semester was still pretty good though

Greideren Yes, I partly agree. The third “semester” was lit, but my main complain is her role throughout the first finale bc she was just “there”. Of course Marie was poorly implemented but 1 thing doesn’t change the other, I just wish it could’ve been better with Kasumi cuz they were very capable of doing so but were lazy

@@fishiee113 I know. I'm still kinda disappointed. Marie on the other hand got into nearly every P4 Spin-Off due to them releasing after P4G. It kinda makes me question if Royal's 3rd Semester is canon or not.

@@giratina6665 It's canon. It wouldn't make sense if it isn't. Also, this happened before with Marie. P4G and Arena were made around the same time during development so they couldn't implement P4G's elements into the story. Then Ultimax came and made sure the P4G elements were included and Marie showed up. Now they're doing the exact same thing with Royal and Scramble. I'm sure we'll see her again.

@@Mikura39 Atlus has never confirmed whether Persona 5 Royal is canon or not, so we can't go out and say it's canon out there without official confirmation. I just want to Atlus stop milking Persona 5 like they did with Persona 4. It would be nice to have remakes of games like Persona 1 and 2 for new fans of the franchise to give it a try, it's better than have other Persona 5 games and that coming from a big Persona 5 fan.
