The 50/50 mix is doing awesome for us in Texas as well. We do one more watering than you do but it's necessary for the heat. I would say about 90% overwintered here just fine, I kept about 10 plants outside (except for freezes) to let them shoot out runners to pot up as "just in case" plants and used those to backfill the plants that didnt over winter. Worked out well and we are already harvesting a bucket of berries a day!

Oh, that is great! Good idea on the runners. Well, you must be a little ahead of me because of the weather. Mine are still about 2 weeks away from harvesting. Thank you for commenting!!

I use large styrofoam Fish shipping boxes about 30" x 18" and 12" deep. I simply cut a hole about 2 inches from the bottom and put in a pvc elbow to drain and reuse the hydroponic solution. I also use the same media in my stackable towers for strawberries, pak choi, and various herbs. My media is 50/50 of Coconut coir and rice hulls. This is the best growing system I have ever used. I got the idea from your numerous videos, especially the carrot video. I have incredible success growing tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots, and all kinds of peppers. Something about this 50/50 mix gives me the perfect combination for ideal moisture levels and I have 0 problems with pests.

I just took my strawberry plants out of my keezer, which I hibernated the roots, trimmed down, and put them out in sun 2 weekends ago, half of them don't look good, the other half are satrtingto show some green. So I just ordered 500 more from scenicfarms, and planted them this week, and new leaves are popping (love seeing this stage). Althought next year not sure if its worth the effort of trying to save them? I use 3x6 trays, flood and drain with hydroton and a belll siphon, everything works great. Also, I use masterblend 4-18-38, but see they have a strawberry formula (9-12-34), have you tried different mixes formulas, what is the most economic for you?
@HomegrownPassion
@HomegrownPassion 2 ай бұрын
I have tried different strawberry mixes. To me I feel like the regular plant nutrients build lots of growth but don't do well with berry size. When I switched to a strawberry formula, I saw an increase in berry size and taste, so I think there is something to going with a formula that is designed for strawberries.

What temperature is ideal for the strawberries in your greenhouse? I feel like my strawberries struggle during the hot part of the summer.
@HomegrownPassion
@HomegrownPassion 2 ай бұрын
Hi Kyle, low 70’s is what they like. Even colder at night helps put the sugars into the berries. You’re right they do struggle in the heat of the summer. Mine do too. I just make sure they get plenty of water, lots of air movement and hope the evening temperatures will be low so they can recover. My best strawberry production is late summer and fall. They love the cool evenings.

Do you just drain on the floor? You mentioned dripping, but I don't see a catch for that.
@HomegrownPassion
@HomegrownPassion 2 ай бұрын
yes just drain to waste. We try and get it so we dont waste lots of nutrient water. Just enough to keep plants happy.

Hi Kate, Do you use Rapid Rooters in your NFT channels?
@HomegrownPassion
@HomegrownPassion 2 ай бұрын
no just in the bato bucket to start my tomatoes and cucumbers. I think they would break down in the nft channels and clog the filters but I don't know never used them in that way.

does the water just drain out the bottom of the strawberry Bato buckets
@HomegrownPassion
@HomegrownPassion 2 ай бұрын
Yes right now, just drains but we have been monitoring the waste and adjusting the time schedule so its very minimal. May install a collect gutter this season. Save the wastewater for the hay field.

Hi! It’s very economical. I harvested close to 1000 pounds of strawberries last year. I get premium pay per pound (quart) and it’s more than paid for itself.

@@HomegrownPassion Touchwood•• project in Egypt is very expensive. It requires production requirements and electricity consumption. The great benefit is the reduction in labor, complete control, and reduction in the use of pesticides. I wish you, Madam, to continue providing scientific information for this type of agriculture. I thank you for your response and interest.

@@HomegrownPassion I think the best system is the bucket for growing fruits such as tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers. However, the pipe system consumes a large horizontal area compared to the bucket, and the success of cultivation depends on controlling the acidity or pH as well as the quality of the nutrient solution
