Before you dismiss my words as crap, there are some lines of dialogue that point towards that being the case. In the cutscene where Spark betrays Master Chief, he has lines of dialogue indicating that he interacted with us before. Not John specifically, but presumably one of his kind, pointing towards the Forerunners and humans being the same species. And in Halo 3, before we fight him, Spark says this: "You ARE Forerunner, but this installation, is mine." And Truth earlier remarks after he kills Miranda that: "Now I know why they left you behind."

He's rampant af and on occasion refers to all humans he speaks to as the same reclaimer and John as a forerunner. In fact that scene I mentioned, in the control room of Halo CE the conversation 343 is talking about is one between "Bornstellar-Makes-Eternal-Lasting" and himself. I believe Bungie wanted human to be physical descendants of the forerunner, whereas we know from Halo 4 they aren't, that Humans were suppose to take up the mantle. Therefore "reclaim" that what was forerunner. I found myself nodding along to everything mentioned here. SO many parts of the expanded universe were referenced, and every one of them checks out. The Arbiter is really the only character in all of Halo that's more than just a sci-fi stereotype (apart from maybe the Didact and Halsey). He's conflicted, full of equal parts rage and sorrow, vengeful against first his own failure, and then his unjust disgrace. He despises "the Demon" for besting him, but comes to regard him as the single greatest warrior he has ever shared a battlefield with. By his hand were many battles won, mighty Reach was glassed, Chieftain Tartarus slain, the head of the Covenant cut off in the form of Truth's death, and Sanghelios liberated from the Covenant's influence once and for all, the old traditions restored. Master Chief is cold, emotionally repressed due to his upbringing, and motherfucking unstoppable- which is why we love him. But the Arbiter by far has the most interesting arc.

"I wondered who the hierarchs would send to silence me. An Arbiter ! I am flattered..." "I would rather die by your hands than let the prophets lead me to slaughter" speaks volume. Not to mention that he is not entirely a soldier, but an emeritus forerunner technology archaeologist, leader of an artefact retrieving team (hence the weird, whimsical looking armors), in short a sangheili Indiana Jones xD

I'm copy pasting someone else, and can't/won't verify it myself, but it made sense to me: _"have you read the Cole Protocole?? Thel is a very stubborn guy, he listens to many things but ultimately he ALWAYS acomplishes his orders, at some point he would've started shooting the Heretic and then, after killing him he would've stop a little and actually think in what and why he did. The Heretic leader knew that, he knew Thel's history, he knew he was already dead"_

Exactly, like Halo CE's Anniversary were all about the Librarian, the Didact and the Shieldworlds/Halo Array. These are well plotted teasers by 343i. And yet, people hate them for making such an awesome job with the lore.

@SolidSp33d10 жыл бұрын
While I'm still watching the terminals, from what I've seen all of it is just poking more into history of the series that was already established. This doesn't seem at all indicative of 343's writing, rather than just translating a lot of the already written information in a new form or different perspective. This doesn't redeem how they handled Halo 4's story. You can only wait until Halo 5 for that.

@TangentialShark10 жыл бұрын
SolidSp33d Although almost all of the events shown in these terminals were established by Bungie, none of them had been portrayed with such detail and with a connective narrative that ties them all together and makes a clear message. The Taming of the Hunters and the Unggoy Rebellion were only known by name before these terminals, we had no idea what caused them or how they were quelled. Also, the short sections where we are introduced into Sangheili culture before the Covenant is completely new and very well delivered IMO. Making all these important events in Halo lore fit into a short 30-minute video is no easy task.

The Arbiter, before he realised the Prophets were lying to his people, is my favourite kind of Villain. An unstoppable force that will completely crush anything that stands in his way, but with a sense of honour that prevents gratuitous cruelty. Giving the marines time to arm up before fighting them was such a chad move. Man, I bet he feels terrible after destroying so many UNSC worlds. Sure, at the time they were his enemy and they were at war, but the entire conflict was based on a lie- those people didn't have to be his enemies. The Arbiter was always my favourite character, I kind of lost interest in Halo when he stopped showing up.

All this knowledge so quick, so fast! its glorious! I'm ashamed to say that i already beat the campaign twice and only found 2 terminals lol. But in my defense i was beating the par times for the achievements. This is what 343 should have focus on Halo 4, fill the gaps Bungie left instead of making all that new bullshit story about humans being super advance 100,000 years ago along with the forerunners and how they were at war while the flood was consuming everything, so dumb. But I'm so happy with the content of this terminals! awesome job
@endorsedbryce10 жыл бұрын
I have to disagree, A that's been in the books long before halo 4 and that part of the story was clearly planned out before halo 1. meany of guilty spark's lines in halo are clear references to it. B The history, pre-halo firing, is honestly the best part of the halo series, It ain't dumb. I do agree that these terminals are great though and fit along with halo 2 narrative so well.

What I just told you is from both the original trilogy aswell as from the books which were released before Reach came out... The Human-Forerunner war was even in the lore in Halo 3 (the terminals). This videos made it seem that the heretic was good friends with the arbiter, but in the campaign he suddenly shoots at him. That doesn't quite make sense, I understand that the heretic thought the arbiter wouldn't listen, but why shoot at a good friend?
@chrisc4488 жыл бұрын
Arbiter was the Heretic Leader's commander rather than a friend. During Halo 1 he sent him to secure the gas mine while the main fleet went after the Autumn. Arbiter would have listened, but as far as Lodam'ee was concerned, an Arbiter belongs to the Hierarchs and would be unlikely to turn. He tried to get the drop on him and failed.
@rhysnichols86088 жыл бұрын

"Thanks but he said "the only one I'd trust with this information is probably dead" which implies they were good friends. I understand exactly what you are saying I think perhaps 343 didn't quite think it through." Because Arbiter was loyal to the Elites first, all he really had to do was incite him to question the prophets and that was a enough. He was probably lamenting that he couldn't just go to Arbiter as he was his superior and may have been able to simply meet with him and show him Guilty Spark in secret but knew he couldn't because of the destruction of Halo.
