Beowulf is an Old-English (Anglo-Saxon) poem. I studied it but I didn't read it in full. The guidebook has runes has because the Anglo-Saxons who settled in England used them too, not just the Norse peoples :-)

Hi you guys, creator of the Dark Star Tarot deck here. Definitely it follows a more "Thoth inspired" vibe, since that's what I studied for quite some time (let's say years lmao). I did put my own vibe into it, and it has no keywords, and the keywords and explanations on the guidebook actually go a little more RWS style. I'm having a lot of fun creating the guidebook! It's nice watching you having a moment while looking at the Runic Tator. I LOVE this deck so much. I'm a Libra and not just cause of that "Justice" is my card and what you talk about while looking at Justice, Tyr and Fenrir is just how I felt looking at this deck :D I love the Norse mythology and I'd like to study runes and this will be the deck for that. I just need to wait a bit longer, cause I wanna (finish) studying other things first. But since this is mass market I'm not in a rush. I know it's out there and I can order it any time I'm ready. :)

Super excited for the Beowulf Oracle! It's an Old English poem, but the 'English' are descended from a number of Germanic tribes so it's set in Denmark or Scandinavia as presumably originally came over with their ancestors. Which is why there will be links to runes as well. There are a lot of links with Norse myth and runes, but they're not exactly the same. Beowulf has a really interesting history (as well as story itself), and if you want a more modern translation then there is one by Maria Dahvana Headley which is fun.

Chiming in here on the Diving Poets decks -- I have the Emily Dickinson and Rumi decks - they totally function as bibliomancy/oracle, if you are someone that a text-only card will resonate with. They are put out by a literary publisher, NOT a traditional tarot/deck publisher, and if you are seeing the design on the Yeats deck as a Marseilles 2 of Coins, I'd be pretty sure it wasn't intended to carry that meaning and is a graphic design choice.

Absolutely adore these videos from you! So fun! Re: using setting-specific Lenormand decks for character building -- I actually do use the Under the Roses Lenormand to plot my Doctor Who fanfics! Lol Because it’s set in London, the roses are obviously Rose Tyler, also one of the cards definitely looks like the Tenth Doctor. Works brilliantly! I’m sooooooo excited for The Black Femme Tarot. :D I’m still debating the Barkana and Cosmic Seed tarot decks. I love the blue-purple color palette in the Cosmic Seed and the collage art is really working for me, but then some of the cards feel too minimalistic to me, like the dragonfly one. I really can’t decide yet. The Major Barkana is my favorite dog deck I’ve seen so far, but I don’t know if I’ll ever reach for it. I don’t do tarot readings about my dog right now, and I don’t reach for animal decks in general. So I can’t figure out if a dog-specific deck would be more or less appealing than mixed animal decks. Hopefully I’ll decide on those two before the campaigns end!

Thank you so much for your honest opinions. It is so refreshing to hear an honest critique about decks (whether constructively positive, negative, or neutral). It is one HUGE reason I love tuning in. You say the things a lot of us are thinking. BTW, love the look!! I also agree that I’m just not feeling a lot of these decks nor tempted and I don’t understand. They just aren’t speaking to me. Each deck feels a little same-y somehow. Like more monochromatic, clip art, or digital… not my style of art. HOMOGENEOUS is a good word.

I will definitely be getting the When My Soul Whispered Oracle. I wonder, though, if it will compete with my beloved Roots and Wings Oracle. The Runic Tarot looks intriguing, but I will probably wait for walkthroughs before I bite! The Relative Tarot has been a workhorse deck for me ever since I got the indie edition. I use it for ancestor work and it’s a powerful deck for that. I now the the mass market edition as well and it’s beautiful, but being a mass market edition it is missing a key component that made the indie deck so special…lots of extra cards for customization! The mass market edition does have 3 choices for the Lovers card and an extra Strength and Justice card with alternative numbering, but it’s missing the numerous extra cards so that you can customize the deck for yourself and for anyone you may read for. It’s still a great deck with the mix of photos of some famous notables and the regular rank and file. Carrie Paris also tried to make this deck as diverse as possible…which is no small feat when working with 19th century photos! Thanks, Lisa for your hot takes 😁

I recently received The Runic Tarot and The Relative Tarot. Both are fantastic!!! I have been waiting on Runic Tarot and it's everything I had hoped it would be. First Norse/Viking themed tarot I have liked. The Relative Tarot was the first impulse tarot buy in a while. Had never heard of it, watched one walk through and immediately ordered it. I like the mix of traditional RWS and the vintage photos, I also like that the book is more about finding your birth card and significators instead of the usual card by card descriptions.

Well... I'd not heard of it, but now Hollow Valley Tarot might become a "Lisa made me do it." I really like the looks of that one -- limited colour scheme, diverse body shapes, love it. I did back the Litarary Tarot for the deck and some extras. Besides being for a good cause, what sold me was the diversity of contemporary authors picking the card/book pairs -- there are some favourites involved. I backed it with moreso an intention to use it for choosing my next books / incorporating it into book discussion on youtube than anything else.

Tarot De La Nuit actually has 2 cards that reference Cinderella in the imagery. I feel it's more a woman empowering deck, with a dark and light side. Europe at the Victorian/industrial wasn't always pretty but still a bit if fairy tale..I LOVE IT

hey Lisa, only half way through, but this is the Best.Hot.Takes.Ever. The cadence, the cards, your matte lips, awesome. And since you asked...in the Runic Tarot, it is Fenrir with Tyr. And the rune is repeated in Tyr's sword hilt! And in Disney Villians...the Six of Swords is Mad Madame Mim from "the Stone in the Stone". super cute. And Beowulf is an English/Anglo-Saxon poem about their Norse cousins's battle adventures. Bit of a stretch to pair it with Runes, but nice to see it anyway. This is such a fun series, thank you!!

I love this series. I enjoy window shopping decks!! I preordered smoke ash and ember, of course, and ended up grabbing oak ash and thorn. I didn’t originally back it because I had backed the meraki tarot and was unsure if they would feel similar and OAT doesn’t seem to compete with any of my other animal tarots. I also backed Lilifer as I want a companion to my Reclaim oracle, we’ll see if I get along with them (Lucifer and Lilith). I have my eyes on the Cosmic Seed and the Black Femme Tarot. Love the art and the ideas but not convinced I would give them all the love they deserve.

i have pre-ordered Wisdom of the Divine Feminine and have ordered Wisdom of the Shadow, I'd never heard of either of these decks. They are beautiful and I think they would work really well together by looking at your shadow and then using the divine feminine to see how to work through your shadow.

From what I have seen there are almost as many decks as there are people on the planet, I further believe that at some stage every reader should attempt their own deck, and that since I believe the tarot is a living energy, further that a tarot deck can be just one card or a thousand. My own deck has 95 cards in the major arcana and about 200 in the minor, with another 65 cards in my alchemy work.

LOL. So I had preordered the Disney Villains Tarot Deck and it literally arrived today. There are definitely a few things that are sort of off about it, but it's not terrible. It's more pip-ish, as most of the number cards don't have scenes on them, but a few do. The colors in the deck are quite nice though. The card stock is kind of thin, cardboard-y. I think they'll shuffle pretty good, but you have to be careful as they'll bend and fold/crease easily. I also pre-ordered the Disney Alice in Wonderland Tarot that was supposed to release the same day as Disney Villains, but it's been delayed and I'm not sure when that one will arrive.

I feel the same about Lenormands, I don't need many. I have just one and I thought that I would always stay with it and never be tempted by another one. The one I have is also by Celia, the Tanis Lenormand and it is sooooo perfect. But this Christmas Lenormand Oracle got me sooooo excited, it moved immediately on the top of my list. Her art is stunning, it's pretty, is cozy, it's warm and welcoming, I don't know, this Lenormand is everything.

I found some flip through on KZbin ( Luna Principe I watched this one ) and the cards are gorgeous. Strong vibes with Viking series with Travis Fimmel. I'm still waiting on about 6 or 7 KS decks stuck in the great shipping debacle. Which is fine being that the creators for most of them have been great about posting updates. However, I think I am done backing anything on KS until things are back to normal. Just an easy out for creators who don't plan on fulfilling pledges down the road. Your make up is flawless! I always love how you do your make up .. it suits you a lot :) This was fun to watch. A lot of decks I didn't need to know about .. but oh well, what to do? I enjoy watching your videos. The most I am interested in is the intuitive goddess tarot. I noticed this is the 2nd version so I plan to go and look for a flip through to see how I feel about that deck. Locations come second because it is such a unique deck. I have the new vision tarot and I love using that a lot for studying . I am sure Locations will be another deck that is worth having because of all the things left to be said when the main people are gone. I wish you'll do a walk through the cards for that one. I'd love to see them all especially the sword suit. The last thing that caught my attention is the Wisdom of the Divine/Wisdom of Shadow oracle .. I don't recall seeing these before. I might as well missed them. I will look to see if you made any video on the Wisdom of Shadow oracle .. seems like Soul Cards 1 and 2 to me .. they give me that deep veseral feeling of connection.

I hit a blah spell... decided to work with the decks I have because nothing seems to draw me in. I love that the dog deck supports a mission and the dogs look like very natural. Magical Dogs deck is one of my most loved decks and I don't think I'd use another. I love my Reclaim too. It's not my kind of artwork or cardstock but the deck works because- like emotions- it's raw and blobby. I also have Mixed Emotions deck - it's more polished artwork so they don't really compete with each other. Beyond the cool "invisibleness" of Locations - I LOVE the tranquility of the images. Not sure I want to spend that much right now. I hope they continue to sell it after the Kickstarter and really would love that to get picked up mass market so it was more affordable. Guess I'll just stay blah for now. I've been creating my own decks lately, not to sell , just to fill my own missing creative niches. Really looking forward to your video on cardstock! That sounds like a good topic.

My "Runic Tarot" by Jack Sephiroth arrived yesterday and it is GORGEOUS!!!! There IS a rune on every card and there are scenes for every minor cards (not a pip deck) and it's truly stunning! Very unique cards too, like the 9 of Swords. I had this deck preordered back in April and it was SO worth the wait! DEFINITELY pick it up!!! I think you'll love it.

What was the essential oil that caused your dog to go to the emergency vet? I have 4 dogs so I would be grateful to know which ones are bad for dogs. Can they get sick just from smelling it on you? 🙏

Tea Tree oil -- undiluted it's poisonous to dogs. It was REALLY scary. Shaela had a skin thing going on so I tried applying some tea tree oil (i'd seen it in dog products) but i didn't realize how strong it was undiluted and it put her in big danger. She couldn't walk a couple hours later - it was really scary. Thankful we had an emergency vet nearby. In general, undiluted essential oils are potent medicinally. But diluted sometimes can be okay - the key is to always check and *always* dilute - even for yourself as well. Later on (after lots of research) we did a coconut oil blend with a few drops of lavender (in a lot of coconut oil) which DID help her skin. The key is to make sure you do your research before applying to your dogs skin or diffusing in areas they spend time in.

Barkana I’m not in the same boat cos I’m already backing it. 😄 I need to go to Reclaim when I’m open to it. You can’t do casual readings with it, and the last two times I used it, I wasn’t as ready to meet all my inner squishiness as I thought I was. It’s useful, therapeutic pain, but it’s definitely pain. I have the first version of Forager’s Daughter and I backed the Afterlight edition. I hadn’t seen that oracle deck you looked at before the Nine Arches and I really need to check it out. And I backed the Light in the Mist because of you. I love Intuitive Night Goddess.

Hello! There won't be a card featuring an upcoming deck, but it definitely isn't because there won't be a next deck :0) We instead included an extra 10 of Swords. We're gearing up to start illustrating the third deck (an oracle), and then it will be onto Tarot deck number 3 :0)

I've received my copy of the Relative tarot about two weeks ago. I only took a sneak-peak inside because I decided it would be a Christmas present for me, but the guidebook already impressed me. It's more of a short book on karmic and ancestral influences and how they can be explored through tarot rather than your usual guidebook with a page or two for each card and their meanings. I don't have any opinion on the cards themselves but from my first impression I like the photographs. My only little complaint is I wish they kept the dark borders from the Indie version instead of these cream ones. And a bigger one that they didn't include all of the extra cards. I guess it was probably a means to cut the production cost, unfortunately. The Beowulf Oracle sounds interesting. From what you've shown I like the art (it reminds me a bit of the Mary-el tarot) and I love when cards are connected to a larger story. I'm also waiting to see more of the Goblin Market tarot. Ahhhhhh do I want the dragon deck by the Guardian creator (I LOVE that deck for soul work) or Smoke, Ash, & Embers? *flaaaail* One of my partners is a dragon, hehe, so I have a fondness for them. I have the Radiant Scales tarot, but I don’t really use it, and the Field Guide to Garden Dragons, which is your fault, but I love it. Both of those are more cute and whimsical, so I’m tempted to grab one of these for more serious work, but not both.

(I have a similar relationship with the Reclaim and I had a much more immediate positive reaction to it buuuuut I know from experience with the Apparition, Spirit Speak, and some other sketchy decks that they can have a unique soul connection even though I don’t “like” that style.) I think I'd rather the movie decks be Oracle decks rather than Tarot decks. I think it makes more sense for them to be Oracles and we can get meaning from the character, than trying to make them fit into the Tarot structure, where it might be a bit forced.

On the Octopus deck there are two different decks, one is tarot and one is playing cards. She is using images on both but making two different decks and using two different printing companies.
