@@janb3625 you haven’t the faintest idea what Russia wanted ….! Russia sent 40k troops to kyiv, no where near enough to take on a city of 3.5 million. But it’s plenty to to keep 80k Ukrainian troops fixed there while they took out Mariupol without Ukraine sending reinforcements . After Mariupol fell, they can now concentrate on Donbas and the Ukrainian front is collapsing. After Donbas front is clear perhaps it’s time to move the full Russia force to Odessa? Either way, non of the locations mention will ever be Ukrainian again. Lesson here is, don’t play Nazis on Russias borders . The last time that happened 27 MILLION Russians died , so they DO NOT play games. Checkmate bitches

The attack at Popasna looks like the southern part of pincer designed to encircle Lysychansk. The attack on the north at Yampil is the other pincer, it looks like. Encircling that huge area would be much more damaging to the Ukraine effort than a direct assault on Lysychansk. Those battles around Severodonetsk and Lysychansk may be intended to hold defenders in that area so they don't react to the pincers coming behind them. Again, potentially very dangerous.

Assuming Russia has the massive amount of forces to actually hold it, doubtful… it would be a good strategy for a force of 200,000… with only 6,000 or less probably going to result in their deaths just like every other place they’ve pushed to hold…. The only thing the Russian forces can do now is what they’ve been doing, harassment of the civilian population until they are killed…. They simply do not have the required strength by more than 20 fold, they are extremely outnumbered and doomed… The clock is ticking it’s just a matter of time for this suicide mission…. I think the Ukrainians are pretty smart cookies, I think they have it under control, they’ll keep luring them wearing them down, until they can quickly overrun the remaining forces… pretty soon the Russians will have to regroup and take up defending positions… You are already seeing this happen…. Once they are defending then sending out small squads is just ridiculous when the goal is to occupy a huge country…. Thank god they are stupid.

Here an update: Ukrainian forces have been able to build a pontoon bridge over the Donetsk in the wider area of Rubizhne, since all bridges have been blown or severely damaged by the Russian army. In addition to that, the Ukrainian army has been able to move a larger detachment over the river to move further and eventually being able to establish a FOB in the area of Vovchansk. The intention will be to create an area large enough to position the 777 howitzers in range of the main logistics routes from Belgorod and eventually to also reach the main routes entering from Valuyki. Nonetheless the Russian Army has moved about 4 BTG’s into the area coming from direction Izium bolstering up their troops in the area in order to hold and slow down the offensive by the Ukrainians. We will therefore see more intense fighting in the area in the coming weeks as the Ukrainian will move into Vovchansk to establish their FOB.

Excellent analysis I’m glad someone is reporting truth. Regardless of the outcome (I am confident Ukraine will prevail) this will sap Russia of much needed manpower in the Donbas. Ukraine simply needs to dig in on the east bank of the river with deep fortifications, KEEP ARTILLERY SAFE, and fire away. And exactly there isn’t a necessity to take the city (though if the opportunity presents itself go for it)
@chriswilson8757

Phillip,those “BTG’s” look capable ? Do the Russian’s have “smart Ammunition” for the two Cannons 30 or 35 Mm I think 🤔 ,plenty of Grenades and 4 Missiles .However aren’t they based on the T72 therefore susceptible to attack from above ? Great that Ukraine was able to create and use a “Pontoon Bridge” hopefully they can use what’s left of the Russian attempt the other day, utter failure 😨 The Ukrainians must be doing their homework as the few Photos/videos of them using the New Howitzers and they not only appeared to not miss a beat but they were obviously very Happy ! There is no doubt in my mind that the M777 will all be well used ! A pity the situation re Air Support can not be solved , we know Poland has a “few” appropriate planes but what a difference they could make ? On the other hand two Squadrons of F16’s could make a big difference ? Stay Safe FNQ AU 🇦🇺🇺🇦

@@chriswilson8757 - BTG’s (Battalion Tactical Group) are quite capable. They have between 132 to 144 armored vehicles (BTR’s, BMP’s, Tanks, AT, Engeneering, FA’s, SAM Battery’s, MLRS Batteries, SPG’s, Support units, etc.) and 750 to 900 troops for operating the equipment, support and combat. A BTG is not the size of a battalion as understood in NATO or Ukraine where the size of a battalion is in between 3,000 to 5,000 troops depending on use.

I really think the Ukrainians should forget about the eastern flank, and try to drive the Russians out of the south. The access to the sea is far more important than one city in the east. But, hey, I am an armchair general thousands of miles away.
@peezieforestem5078
@peezieforestem5078 2 жыл бұрын
that's a bad idea. Think about it like this: fighting in the east will have to occur eventually, and it will not help if Russia advances further with concentrated effort. On the other hand, if you're able to demolish a spread out assault in the east first, then it will be no problem to clear out the remaining forces in the south. While ports are important, frontline resupply from the sea is not nearly as efficient as by land, especially considering that 2/3 of Russia's fleet is outside the Black\Azov sea and is blocked by Turks, and Ukrainians have demonstrated the ability to destroy Russian ships.

Denys. I met a Russian-speaking Crimean who insisted that the Azov Battalion are neo-nazi. I researched to find older reports that 10-20% of the troops are neo-nazi, but this information was relevant to only 1000 people, making 100-200 neo-nazis reported to be in the Azov Battalion. This is no excuse for mass murder & destroying a country to invade it, there must be a reason for the invasion other than targeting an extreme minority considering there are more than 200 neo-nazis living in Moscow. Is Putin trying to invade Crimea & Donbas for its natural gas reserves? Is this an invasion for resources?

I suspect it's a mix of factors: (1) All authoritarian regimes need wars every once and a while to build nationalism, distract their people and justify repression. (2) Natural resources, as you say. (3) Military-strategic: Getting better access to the Black Sea, and also reaching the Carpathians, which would form a natural barrier against any future invasion attempts against Russia from Europe (like the invasions of Hitler and Napoleon) and provide a better defense line than their current border, which is situated in the middle of a wide stretch of the European plains, which is difficult to defend. (4) Healing the imperialistic nostalgia and resentment of older and middle-aged Russians, by putting together something like the Soviet Union that they knew as children, which also happily aligns with the dreams of the new fascist-nationalist movement currently being built up among the younger generations of Russians. (5) No one likes to surrender. Sheer stubbornness to not accept walking away empty-handed or to lose face. (6) Collective illusion. They've generated a big illusion among themselves that they can win, which they keep alive through their own media, and by mutually reassuring each other and consistently and stubbornly misinterpreting everything. (Like that ridiculous and infantile insistence on that the Azov battalion is Nazi or that Ukraine is controlled by Nazis.) As long as they keep that illusion alive, they will continue with the madness.

It would also be fun to compete for clever rapid camouflage of the artillery pieces. Ukraine really should allow volunteers from other countries do this important but tedious work. I'm assuming Russian drones are in season! Very surprised a rapid bridge hasn't been designed using old Russian tanks or truck Chassis as not only the trailer; but also the bridge support, just leave the thing in the water. Six of these chassis/bridge sections should be able to motor into the river and die there.

How could you tell which drones were Russian and which were Ukrainian? You’d be hard pressed to spot them in the first place. Both sides use radar to detect trajectories for counter battery fire. Current doctrine is to fire your artillery and scoot before the Russian artillery starts firing back at you. Concealment isn’t really the issue here.

In my opinion this war is about gas and oil. Here's my reasoning: Background of Russias economy: Putin has spent his entire time in power developing his energy industries and not much else while completely missing the boat on the tech boom. If you look up the wealthiest Americans it takes to the 16th spot to find someones wealth based on natural resources (Koch family, oil). If you look at Russias top 16, 15 of them are natural resource based. Over 60% of Russias oil exports and 78% of their gas exports go to Europe excluding Belarus and their energy exports account for over 40% of their federal budget. Putin is completely focused on the energy market and in particular keeping the monopoly on the European market. Timing of annexations/invasions: 1. In 2008 there had been a lot of black sea explorations for oil and gas deposits by all countries that share that coastline. Many of them were looking positive with an article published in July 2008 by BP Georgia stating rich deposits might be on the shelf by the coast and that several companies (including 3 American companies) were currently conducting exploration projects. The next month Russia annexed part of Georgia including a large part of their coast. 2. In 2014 there had been a lot of progress in gas extraction on the shores of Crimea in recent years with multi billion dollar projects underway and production already increasing largely. Crimea was "annexed" in 2014 and the Russian government moved quickly to get the oil and gas projects in full swing with billions of dollars of foreign investors equipment seized. 3. It was estimated that 1.4trillion cubic metres or more of gas shale lies in the Donbas region of Ukraine about 30km south of Kharkiv. This could exceed the amount of gas that Russia has in proven reserves and would be viable to utilise the shale as Ukraine would presumably be given access to the western tech needed to extract gas from shale. On top of that in a preinvasion article by Ukraines energy department they stated that an ultra deep well on Zmiinyi Island (popularily known as Snake Island) could prove to be very lucrative as the north western area of the sea were thought to be the richest. Today we are seeing a huge effort to seize the Donbas region (even seemingly retreating from Kharkiv to focus on the area south of it) and a push to seize the whole coastline and suicidal efforts to hold Snake Island. In conclusion I think these events make it obvious in my opinion that Russia invades for natural resources and not for "denazification" or "NATO" advances.
@freddupriest576
@freddupriest576 2 жыл бұрын
There may be even more to the story. There are literally dozens of structures offshore Ukraine in deep water that could hold more than 1B bbl of oil. Only the largest oil companies would move a deep water rig in and explore, then have an organization capable of building the offshore facilities needed to develop it. Before 2014, Ukraine was rated as one of the most corrupt countries in the world and nobody could touch it. Then Russia took the bulk of the prospective area with Crimea, and made the rest politically too risky. A fair amount of drilling has now been done in deep water in other parts of the Black Sea, but the most prospective part which is offshore in Ukraine is still unexplored. Russia doesn't need this for themselves, they just need for it not to be produced by Ukraine.
@bdoyle4751
@bdoyle4751 2 жыл бұрын
@@freddupriest576 Exactly. At the moment they can't utilise shale gas anyways and they have more than enough themselves, they just can't afford for Ukraine to utilise it because Europe would rather do business with them then Russia. As for oil, they could use that as their reserves are depleting but for that they would need to control the west coast of Ukraine as well as Snake Island.

Denys isn’t a strategic thinker and I think he would admit that. While I’m sure Ukraine wants to keep pressure on the territory to the north of Kharkiv, the real thrust is towards the east to cut supply lines. I expect Russia will continue their attempts to encircle Ukrainian forces from the south. That’s all they got. I’d be very surprised if Russia succeeds. The tactics and unit structure that worked so well on defense is not well suited for offense. Ukraine’s offensive capabilities are not nearly as good as their defensive capabilities. They’re good enough to beat the Russians, but unless Russia gives up or the Russian Army collapses, it’s going to take a while to expel the invader. Still, I wouldn’t call this a battle of attrition. It’s a fight for best position.

@@glenchapman3899 Ukraine does not have the vehicles, fuel or ammo to even consider such a move. They have been able to move north of Kharkiv only through a Russian intentional pull back, a strategy Russia used to great effect in Syria also. Destroy supply lines and make the enemy move and be engaged, so they burn fuel and stay in one are while they pick apart another. That was what the whole move in Kyiv in the beginning was about. Russia sent 40k troops which is nowhere near enough to take a city of 3.5 million. But it fixed 80k Ukrainian in pace that could not reinforce Mariupol which was the first main objective. Now that Mariupol has been liberated and denazified all this troops are now in Donbas and after pounding the front with shells it is now crumpling and they are breaking through . When that front has been punched back they will free up 10’s of thousands of troops to Pursue other goals. This is the slow and steady Russian way. Done because Russia is not leaving again, Donbas, Kherson, Mariupol and Odessa are 90% Russian speaking, so this is liberation. By going slow they will ensure they are in control of these areas so no pesky insurgents pop up later. Russia is already paying pensions and Rubles are being used .
