He was pretty clear about this - he didn't want to have a kid at the time and his GF decided to go ahead with it anyway. His big mistake if you ask me was taking the kid in after his mother died - he should have just let him go to a group home. Everyone probably would have been better off.

I thought that the dad probably had a really hard time going from having only little kids to having a teenager-I figured he was just used to loving little kids who worshipped him, not a sophisticated, intelligent, normally rebellious, and normally moody teenager. (Meaning the kid is a normal teen.) I could actually see how that would be a big shock at first. But then the dad had to write his post, which just made him worse and worse and worse. The first story, OPs "father" was acting more like a teenager than the actual teenager was. The father seems to want praise for doing the bare minimum any parent should (taking his motherless son in) and there's a distinct sense of "I already paid for this child's upbringing once, why should I have to pay for his unkeep again?" I wonder if the father likes controlling people using money, because otherwise I don't understand how OP buying lots of expensive things was a "bad example" to the younger children. It showed them that once you're a bit older, if you develop a useful skill and work hard, you'll be able to afford to buy your own nice things, which you can choose to share with others, or not, because they will be yours. I think that's actually a good example to set. However, it makes more sense if the father wants his family to be dependent on him, with money something he can threaten to withhold if he doesn't like their behaviour.

And some bring on a sense of celebration at having gotten out of a toxic situation. This particular divorce is one of those instances. I'm happy the wife got away from a toxic ex. I had been following this story, but I don't know about the last update. I feel bad about OP's step mom and half brothers. It's probably for the best that those two divorce but a divorce is always a traumatic experience, especially for children that young. Story 1: this story is bonkers. The PS5 story was crazy. I think Mark covered the dress story but I don't think it was clear that was dad. He sounds like a condescending control freak who can't fathom his own wants and needs aren't the most important. He destroyed his whole life because he wouldn't listen to anyone . Edit: Mark omitted/missed a couple of updates. Part of the reason she left was a situation where she expressed that she didn't want to get dressed up for functions he forces her to go to. Story 2. I back OP. She was just trying to protect herself, her home, and her sister. She got offended when inferring that OP called her a liar, and claiming she isn't, when she had already been caught in a lie. I'd also like to point out the possibility (though I dont agree with the boyfriends behavior) that the friend was the instigator with the boyfriend, which caused his bad behavior. You don't have to be on drugs to continuously find yourself in toxic relationships. The two do intersect at times, but it's not a pre-requisite. All it takes for this behaviour pattern to occur is a lack of understanding on healthy relationships due to bad examples growing up and low self-esteem, and it prime's you for disfunction and wanting to fix people. As far as her housing status, I know plenty of people who, prior to the pandemic, were homeless, despite having full time work. There are entire parking lots in S California that are occupied by software engineers who live in their cars because the US housing market is so absolutely aweful. So, no, I don't necessarily think that there's anything deeper going on here than a person who's neck deep in a toxic relationship, and she just doesn't see it. Congratulations on your sobriety, BTW. My husband has 16 years under his belt, and it's tough.

For story two there's a case in Japan where a young woman helped her friend and allowed the friend to move in with her due to her abusive bf. The BF continued to stalk and harass the friend and the friend refused to cut contact or call the police. The young woman was killed by the bf after he went to attack the friend and the friend locked the young woman out (of her own house) to save herself. OP should cut the friend off and can end up way worse then she thinks. A friend is never worth your life.

I heard very similar words from mentally ill sister wo like 35+ year have paranoia mixed with depression and schizophrenia. It's was like i would be heard her and it's was alarming. The OP it's right. She can't save ex bestie from herself.

S1: "Jonah" sounds like a very informed and clever young man. If he were my child, I'd be proud of him for getting a job that compensates him so well, while also keeping up with his school work. I would encourage him to save some of his money, though, just to practice fiscal responsibility and saving practices. I know he has an inheritance from his mom, but he should talk to a financial advisor so his current income and inheritance can benefit him for years to come and not unintentionally disappear on impulse/luxury purchases (kitting out his room with a TV & PS5, buying the latest iPhone, etc. are all pricey purchases that don't surprise me at all coming from a 15 year old).

S1: First, just don't let siblings take other siblings' toys! Also, don't demand them to share. I once took my lil bro's digivice to play without his permission and he just threw it away after knowing that. I still feel sorry I've done that. Make them acknowledge whose toys they are, and respect the rules of the owners of the toys. Second, I wish we know more about why the dad ended up being responsible for OP's existence. He seemed to be so angry at that, and made mistakes from there. Third, and last, the dad might think it's not a serious deal at all not telling his wife about OP's existence, but for the wife, it is. That's the first crack. Then, the dad being a jerk towards his own blood, though unnecessary, is another crack. How could she look at him as a man? S2: Nah, even though OP was right about the friend still seeing the problematic man, she isn't right about treating the friend like that. OP is not her parent. Any concern about your own safety? Just make it about your own safety, not her life.

This father is an AH and I don't want to hear about his rights. He literally called his son "this kid"and hid it from his wife. He complained about child support despite the fact he had a choice to not be involved with his kid doesn't mean child support isn't required. Karma came and dropped off honest justice. When Johan cuts "dad" off when he turns 18 he should be happy that he doesn't have to deal with OP.

Did I read it right, Daddy thinks he should get a veto on whether a woman is allowed to carry his child to full term? If you don't want children, refrain from taking part in the process that leads to pregnancy. The father (term used loosely) is the all-time biggest a-hole, the fact he cannot see he is in the wrong on every level is staggering!
