my grandmother tried to reconnect with me when she was dying I never visited her and never regrated it. you don`t get to make amends when one of the parties is dying. it is cheap and unacceptable. in the story, Sarah knew that was a bad idea which is why she waited for the last day to drop that knife on her father's back. she wanted her father to walk her down the aisle with the man the betray him and ruined his marriage. there are lines that should never be crossed and now she needs to be an adult and leave with the consequences of her actions. she destroyed the relationship with her father.

Because from her perspective John is the great stepdad who raised her and mentored her alongside real dad. This may be hard for some to understand, but she was a kid at the time of the divorce and likely didn't understand the betrayal her dad felt here, she just thought she needed her mom for whatever reason. Because she lived with John, he was the one there for the day-to-day dad stuff, while real dad was ALSO there in the wings offering support. She likely didn't realize the amount of hurt that caused her father, and may have thought that because dad still wanted a relationship with her that he had no problem with stepdad anymore or something. She was not party to their feud and it had not affected her relationship with either man before then, so she thought to honor both for the roles they had played in her life. Unfortunately she badly gauged the situation and it's apparently caused fallout in her relationship with bio dad since. It's a shame that bio dad didn't decide to patch things up with the daughter who did still love him, but asking her to hate one of the people who played a big role in her life and never did HER any wrong is a bit of a bridge too far here.

She was very young and manipulated by two narcissists. She is in a terrible situation. I don't think she understood how what she did could affect her father. She had two father figures. It was only logical for her. Inconsiderate sure, but I don't think she meant anything bad by it. She just didn't think it through. Then the father who has always been kind and understanding to her totally loses his crap over what she thought was a great compromise. She is only trying to maintain a relationship with everyone. You're very right. I think the OP is just scared because he had his father to not only support him but guide him, too, with his first two kids. Ince the baby comes, though, his past experiences and his father's lessons will just kick in like second nature. His father will always be with him in spirit and who knows, maybe he'll come to see that same spirit in his kids as they grow. Like I said, once the little squishy arrives, everything thing will come back to him. Poor dad was replaced by an impostor that is fucked up. If she didn't understand how that was heartbreaking for her dad to be replaced like that then she is very self centered and never gave a shit about her dads feelings. So it makes sense why dad didn't giver her the same goodbye gifts at the end, because all of those photos, all of those memories, all of that was erased when Sarah made it clear John was her new dad and real dad is old news. But this stuff still happens and the woman can loose their jobs and homes over it when they can´t abort and are stuck with a paraside inside their bodies for 9 months. Many commit suicide. No she doesn't. She was a child herself when her parents divorced. There are many children out there that become close to their stepparents, and they become part of the family. She chose her mother and I feel that her mother really started turning her against her dad. She didn't deserve his hatred. I know a girl that was walked down the aisle by both her dad and her stepdad. And her Stepmom and mother were able to give speeches, or do whatever else mom's do at the wedding. However, her bio parents didn't cheat on their partners when they were together, and they didn't try to turn her against the other, force her to change her life goals because it would hurt the other. It seems that the mom didn't like the bio dad and thought that she could cause drama. Unfortunately, it came at the cost of a father and daughter relationship, and caused hatred and disappointment between them. I feel awful for the daughter because I feel that the relationship she had with dad was sabotaged by somebody that didn't want her to have her dad in her life. I feel heartbroken for her bio dad. He clearly loved her but he was disappointed and hurt and took it out on his daughter who probably wanted to have a relationship with him, and was confused by how cold he was to her. I wish that they had more time. I think that both the bio dad and his daughter could have mended their relationship when daughter realized that her mother was responsible for the breakdown. Some women don't want their children to have any kind of relationship with their bio father, and do everything they can to turn the child (even an older child) against him. Probably had daughter's ear and was telling her a warped version of the truth of why they divorced from one another.

This is a dead thread, but forgiving doesn't necessarily mean you just go back to the way things were. There are a number of people who I have forgiven, but I don't hang around them just waiting to get burned again. Its the scorpion and the frog. You don't go shuttling scorpions around all the time after you get stung by them. The daughter was a waste like her mother. She doesn't show empathy like her mother before her. So he could have just decided that ship has sailed. He made sure his daughter was looked after even in death, but did not invest emotions into her. Story #2: If the girl is old enough, write her a letter and explain gently to her the situation of her conception, and birth, and explain how it mades you feel, and continues to make you feel. Let her know you don't blame her, or in any way hold her responsible, but you cannot have a constant reminder of trauma in your life. Re-enforce your need to not have her in your life because of the pain it causes you, don't oppose your parents having a relationship with her, BUT be strict about your boundries with your parents. He did just that, and she wrote a reply as well. what he said in his update before the account was deleted - So much went on since my last post. I spoke to my parents. I basically laid out exactly why I didn't want contact with her. I explained it's not a personal thing, but rather she is to me the living embodiment of my rapist and that if I were to have contact I feel it would make me re-live it all over again. I reassured them they can have contact with her and I won't stop it but to stop trying to force me. They obviously agree with me, and said they'll respect my wishes. Initially I went mad that they did give it to me because I felt like they didn't respect what I'd said but they begged me to read it so I did. And god I'm now confused. The letter was sweet for want of a better word. She admitted in it that she had no idea and apologised to me. And that hurt that she felt like she had to apologise. She also said she'd respect my wishes but gave her contact details and said if I ever wanted to to speak to her, she'd be there for me. She also slipped a little passport photo of her in it - which is the first time I've ever seen her and what she looks like. It's weird because before this, she was just a thing. I could ignore her. But reading that she became real. She has a little girls handwriting. I felt like I could feel her pain in the letter. And seeing her photo - she's a kid. Doesn't look like me, but really looks like my dad but with her mum's hair and eye colour. But she does look sad in it. I didn't say anything to my parents about it. But I'm now really fucking confused. I know I shouldn't have contact with her, and still don't want it for all the reasons I've said before. It's not good for me and also I don't think for her. But I realise I don't hate her or am angry at her at all. I don't want her to feel guilty about her horrible mother. And now I see she's a person - god it's fucked up. I don't know what's going to happen. I just remembered there was a guy on reddit. He share his story about himself and his wife/gf which he was right but reddit commenters didn't agree and start insulting him. He shared his story to same place again with a different account and made a small change to the story; he wrote himself as female and his wife/gf as husband/bf and reddit commenters literally showered him with love, support and more but when he exposed himself and what happened reddit sh*t on him yet again.

One thing that really got under my skin... a comment about the poor guy who was raped. "Who takes priority? A 30s man or a 17 girl?" The way this comment is written sounds so blaise about his trauma, like he should just get over it. Reverse the genders. It's a 30s woman who was raped, and her 17 son looking for her. Would the commenter still feel the same way? This man was raped at that age and forced to pay for 16 years for a child he didn't have any say in to a woman who raped him, and he's just expected to deal with that reminder? Why? The poor guy deals with enough when it comes to this.

This is a tough one cause he got double tapped, not only was he raped by the woman but also raped by the system. Just goes to show the world cares nothing about the safety of young men at all. On the comment note, however, I think the justification here is not so much the 37 year old man vs the 17 year old girl, but rather trying to get him to share what little family she has left, with him. As the last comment said his parents should respect his wishes to be left alone and out of situations where he would be forced to interact with her, and should spend time with her separate from him. He also should at least respect their wishes to help her seeing as that is their grandchild, and more so an innocent in this case. He absolutely need counseling on multiple levels as not everyone can just get over it, honestly I hope he can come to at least be around her and treat her as family, not a daughter, but just someone extra in his life. She is still a child and lost her whole family, so I would think that he could help her even if it is a little hurtful to him. I think he has more capacity to deal with it than she does given his age and life experience and he has more family and support than she does. The final story is painful on many levels. I've worked with rape survivors, male and female, and they are similar and different in so many ways. Both have been dealt an unimaginable violation that changes their lives, but women are more likely to be heard and accepted as a victim. Many men can't see themselves as victims because their bodies were able to "perform" despite their unwillingness in the act. Having to pay child support to his attacker is a secondary violation much like a male rapist demanding shared custody of a child from the rape. The girl has probably never been told anything true about OP, and might just think of him as a deadbeat dad. Telling her the truth is a mixed bag, but might be the best way for her to understand why he is so unwilling to accept her. This would be best done in a joint therapy session, and OP needs therapy with someone experienced with rape victims. TL:DR OP is justified, Everyone needs therapy
