I love my new Rad Rover Step Thru 1 . I have had it now for 33 days and have put 654 off road miles on it . I can ride 14 miles and only use one battery bar out of 5 in fifth gear, Peddle assist using level 2 and 3 out of 5 . My Average speed is 13 mph .For now mine is Stock ,after the warranty runs out I will start upgrading .

Is it my imagination (because I own one), or is the Radrover generating way more KZbin buzz than any other ebike? That would explain why Bolton is offering upgrades for the bikes of a competitor, since it will pull some attention to the Bolton brand. Great idea if so ... looking forward to my upgrade. My algorithm has fully keyed in on my rad interests. While it shows alot of other ebike stuff, you're correct, the overwhelming majority seems to always be Rad.

Great comparison video Citizen Cycle ! I'm waiting on my 2 Rad Rover 6's to be delivered in October. A "man's" / regular Rad Rover 6 Plus for me and a "step thru" for my wife. If you want to do one more modification, the Bolton true 750 watt motor is, and I do not say this lightly, life changing. I installed it yesterday, and besides doing level 32 mph with the throttle on the stock battery on my Radrover, I have to lean forward starting with the throttle due to unintended wheelies. With the Bolton controller and this motor, welcome to torque town.

CitizenCycle Not difficult with right tools. I bought a freewheel removal tool, but it didn’t fit over the plug, etc. of the existing motor. Ended up bending the first gear (the big one) out with a pair of channel locks to get to the screws needed to take the guts of the motor out. You’ll actually leave the housing attached to the spokes and drop the new motor guts into it. Perfect fit. To get the screws off the new housing, you need a special security bit... bought it on Amazon... I’ll get you a link if you’d like it. It’s like a Torx screw, but it has a pin in the middle, so the bit has to have a hole to fit over it. I think it was 8 dollars for a set of 18 bits (which you’ll only need the one, of course.) You have a 2017 or 2018 Radrover, right? I think that motor casing uses a standard something or other bit, but you’ll have to look. The only other thing you’ll need is a Shimano 7 speed freewheel (got that from Bolton as well) because, like I said, I had to bend that first gear out of the way, so it’s ruined and unusable on the new motor. TLDR version: Undo the screws holding the guts of old motor, and pull old motor out of motor case. Take the new motors guts and stick in old motor case. Perfect fit. Attach to controller plug and good to go.

I agree the battery seems to last forever! My RadMini is the same way. Oh speed test and he doesn’t know your upgrade? I may get the RadRunner plus I hear the controller is 12amp rated with 22 amp max. The 2018 RadMini is 8 amp rated with 17 amp max which is what battery last for ever! But lousy power/torque. I would put the 2020 runner plus controller on the 2018 RadMini with Bolton upgrade like you have on the runner. I don’t know yet but see what happens. Juiced bikes has some good offerings to. Great Video ! Thx for sharing this compare between the 2 bikes! If your partners wheels feel wobbly or out of true he may very well have loose spokes. I hear this is very common on Rad bikes! Should have that checked , not only does it cause a less comfortable ride can be dangerous also.

Sweet!! I have a mongoose malus I got a dyi kit 750w geared rear hub kit came with a 26amp controller tons power love it!! but I ordered upgrade a 38amp sinewave controller!! And today I tried the "shunt mod" adding solder to the shunt on my 26amper wow!! Huge power difference!! I'm going try the new controller stock then might try the shunt mod on that one hahaha.

I got my radrover 5 three weeks ago. I'm just waiting for confirmation from Bolton or someone that this upgrade will work on the 2020. I'm in Canada where we are governed to 500 watts. So I will notice even a larger difference going from 500 to 1200.

@@alcocklake It's all in the controller box. RAD built these with electrical shunt's that allow 250 watts per shunt. The Canadian version has 2 shunt's whereas the US has 3. The UK version has just 1 shunt (250 watts limit)

Just ordered the controller kit with the tail light, I screwed up the Bolton hydraulic brakes and had to have the bike shop install them for me ,go figure 😱, any of you guys had a bike shop install your Bolton controllers??

The Hubble you're having with your tires is because The inner plastic lining has cracked.... I recently had this happen to me and the plastic was cracked in 3 places inside the tire? Which one of the cracks pinched the inner tube( Blow out)The tire itself was shot!

Not fair! The Rad Rover ships as class 2 so not only does it have less power than your "Citizen Cycle" but the speed is also limited to 20 mph. You converted your bike into a totally different beast than a stock Rover.

I don't get it, Why is it that my stock rad rover exceeds 42mph on GPS and 36mph on the stock screen. I keep hearing of 28mph and 34mph and I ask why is it that mines goes so fast on flat street. I bought it in 2016 so it ain't nothing new and I haven't upgraded it so everything is from Rad. I once told customer service but they brushed it as not true. Maybe the GPS app is not correct and maybe the rad screen is damaged. I had challenge a 28mph bike and left it way far away and that was just throttle.

My 2019 Rad Rover took a drive at 50mph from my ebike rake. Ordered all replacement parts Handle bar, brake line, keys, shifter and hand grips. All parts came in and was ready to repair until I watched your video and had to have the upgrade. I am now on standby until upgrade arrive. ?? Do you have a recommeded shop to make the repairs and upgrade?? I beleieve we are close... Thanks

Someone said when you get the new controller, the battery indicator doesn’t work, it will always show a full battery on the new display even when it is drained, has anyone found this to be true, if it is true that’s not good.😢

No my battery indicator goes down. usually takes between 16 and 22miles depending on how much I'm using the throttle

I have the upgrade and the larger bolton triangle battery seems I can go 30 miles plus without dropping a bar then things go south quick used the recommended settings battery cuts off around 41 volts but hell ya bolton makes the bike you like better

Got a question, with the Bolton controller would your go farther and faster if you added the Bolton 52 volt 🔋 battery ,or is the standard 48V, 14 Ah (672 Wh) Lithium-Ion battery Rad sells good enough, Rads battery’s are back in stock thinking about getting one.

I think the new Rad Rovers have "hot" throttle, as in it's on all the time. I know my 2020 Mini Step Thru 2 is like that so is the regular Mini. What are your thoughts on that?

I'm actually not a fan of that. When I'm trying to teach someone new, I like to turn the throttle off until they get comfortable with the bike.

I followed the settings on the Bolton website. Except recently I changed the C5 setting from 2 to 7 in order to increase the take off speed. I changed it to 10 but that was a little much.

@@CitizenCycle925 well I don't know if it would work because even the lcd display upgrade that rad sells and and advertises as being for the radmission and a few others is no good for the radmission. It's not programmed for 27.5 inch tires, only 26 and 28. I was gonna buy one at the local rad dealer here in Vancouver and that was pointed out to me by one of their mechanics. The display will fit and function but the readings won't be accurate. Apparently rad is working on resolving this problem, I hope so and I'm sure I'm not the only one who would like the lcd display. The little LED works great but I'd like to have more info when I ride.
