@@loneshootr Hi, Drew: As many people already know, the Canon M50 seems to be a bit limited for lowlight video. I did my first wedding a couple of weeks ago and I’m starting to see the limitations of this budget camera. I love it in every other situation though, and I don’t want to get rid of it or upgrade!!! ...but I feel forced to! It seems to me that the noise in the lowlight scenes is what is going to restrict me from taking that jump into professional work. Any suggestions or thoughts? I feel like I'm at a crossroad right now in life. I'm simultaneously discerning a career change into videography, but I think to properly do so I need to put my best foot forward with a camera that will do the job. As you know, the M50 can do so much. However, with video there are limitations, especially with lowlight.

Great to see you again, my Brother, it's been awhile since I visited. 🙏🏾 Unfortunately, as I'm sure you know, "smart TVs" aren't very smart, and have certain default settings that ruin the cinematic look of videos with lower framerates, giving them that "soap opera effect." But once those settings are disabled, then lower framerate videos look more as they were intended to look like.

I think experimenting with a camera sensor might be the best way to go or if you want to try out something different maybe there's a software based upscaling method that could help you. This is coming from a guy that does photography and software engineering. KZbin in its nature compresses the information we give it to save resources when storing and reproducing videos and giving it some more pixels (even artificial ones) might do the trick to make the image better. In my personal opinion I find your videos to be of good quality, and I usually use a 24 inch monitor.

Late to the conversation, but found your video whilst exploring the idea of a Helios 44-2/3/4... just want to say I love your story telling and humour, and your personality shines through. I guess you know the last Batman movie used some Helios (rehoused in cinema bodies) glass for the car chase scenes... so the lenses are a stylistic choice, and as others have said I think resolution is not everything. So many cinema cameras are still APS-C, and Davinci Resolve's upscaling can make, say, the FHD Cinema-DNG raw of a 12 year old Blackmagic pocket cinema into 2.7k or 4k for the YT algorithm. My plan is to get a 44-2, and use it for atmospheric shots alongside modern lenses for their autofocus and consistency. I also have a Nikon ai-s 85mm f1.4 that I plan to hang on to...

Most youtubers format goes something like this: 1. Here I am making videos using cheap camera 2. I bought this XYZ brand camera to be more cinematic 3. Here I am using XYZ cinema camera 4. Here is why I sold XYZ brand to buy another brand or more expensive camera. None of them do what you do with your M100, none of them. Filmmaking is about what you can do pushing the limits of what you have, to create something out of this world. You do that brother.

Welcome back brother, I have checked week in week out for your videos.I mostly watch on my phone or occasionally pc. The vintage lenses you use give a beautiful cinematic glow and I think that suits your style perfectly. With regards to the camera to film on check out mpb they seem to have dropped a lot of prices, dunno if that is because the second hand market is saturated due to the smartphone camera capabilities that have killed demand for actual cameras. I switched from full frame to M43 a few months ago and got an Olympus em1 iii for dirt cheap and it's mint with less than 1000 clicks. Glad to see you back 👍👍👍

What creates more variation in the visuals is what people are watching the vlog on and how its calibrated. as soon as I upload to anything online I know its out of my hands what it looks like. My computer, phone and laptop all present a different version of the image. They're calibrated as well as can be but the platform interpretation of the electronic file is quite different. Basically, don't sweat it, some sort of happy financial/technical medium that works for you is always the best answer.

I don't think your video lacks anything, it's about the feel and the message; picture quality - to me at least - is secondary. As it goes - first videos I've seen were quite old and I watched them on my TV, but again, didn't see the need for improving, but what's good - it made me think about improving a lot of things and not necessarily my gear. I was planning to go 'pro' back in 2007, problems came, ended up selling all my kit and lenses. Only recently bought - funnily enough - 7D, got some glass with it that was given to my daughter, so here's a start. Watching your videos gave me a lot of ideas though and slightly changed my perspective. Going back to youtube - the sound quality is always great, that's a big thing and overpowers less quality in the image in my opinion. And lastly, there's lots of people with brand new 4K kit with loads of gear behind them, but really nothing to say - and they're killing it, telling other pointless beings how to do pointless things - so again, to me - your content will level out any imperfections there are - I like the shallower depth of field and general feel that Helios lenses give to your videos. By the way, you are the person responsible for me sticking with my older, less than ideal gear that is perfectly capable and adequate for all tasks I throw at it. I am starting to enjoy photography again. Thank you.

I have been using the Helios 44-2 to shoot on a Canon 90D for the last 12 months. Your videos are a big part of why I made that choice. That said, while I have a nice set of new lenses I use for pro work, the Helios is literally all I use for personal work and I have had a few pros ask me how I achieved the look in post before explaining it was just a lens choice and color grading. When that vintage aesthetic is part of your brand I think the videos resolution is more important to KZbin than the lenses you choose. The compression is the real enemy of KZbin video quality, the higher resolution the source video upload the less impact compression has. Keep at it my man!

@@loneshootr The mk ii still has the smaller battery (mk3 and higher got the bigger one), but it still seems to have decent running time... coming from the A6300 I was able to use many of the same accessories (dummy adapter for example to use external battery packs), but what really sold me on this upgrade was the price... I got an almost mint one for under 1k. It has a 42 megapixel full frame sensor, but also works with my APSC lenses just fine (still at 18mp) and 4k looks just as good if not better than on the A6300 in both full frame and super 35 modes. And the A7Rii has IBIS, which really helps with vintage lenses hand held. This body once sold for over 3k and the engineering feels just amazing solid, it's really a piece of tech art.

Good to see you back big fella. Hi Drew. Good to see you back and you are looking very relaxed and well. Like you I have shot everything from large format film all the way down to 35mm and then FX and DX digital cameras. I actually bought a Canon 7D based on your rec..... and I love it. Lately I have been trying Olympus M4/3 OM-D EM-1 the original mark 1 and now the mark 2. I had to do this after a big bust up with a friend who use Olympus M4/3 and I called his cameras "toys"...........He got into such a rage he now needs many years of therapy 😂........BTW These Olympus cameras are awesome. Way ahead of their time and they don't cost much either. Decent Olympus lenses are also a lot better priced than what you would pay for other lenses. I was always dubious about the smaller sensor but have to admit that I was wrong. The images and video have left me scratching my head.............The big bonus is the size and weight. These little Olympus cameras make our other cameras feel like bricks. Please try an Olympus OM-D E-M1 mark 11. You can get them in mint condition with low shutter count for less than £500.00. I use mine with adapters for all of my M42 and Nikon lenses. The Olympus has the best focus assist out of all of the cameras available and the the icing on the cake is IBIS. Even my S/H £200.00 OM-D EM1 Mark 1 has IBIS. I kid you not. I am floored with these Olympus M4/3 cameras. Try one. If you don't like it you can get your money back very easily. Best Regards.

To be honest, I do watch it on 1080p monitor but it does look amazing, it is not sharp its a bit "dreamy" but since I started to follow your channel that is what I expect so its all good for me. One small thing with the shots in this video that stuck a bit it color difference between lenses but if it was different scene each time you switched lens it wouldnt be noticable so that is not a issue again. But if really considering different camera I can suggest Canon C100 mk II in begining of the year I got one with low work hours for just 800 euros and its the best thing I did in a long time, the camera is absolutely amazing it gives a best picture for yt imo, the data rate is so low I get three hours of footage on just 8 euro 32GB card its insane, the battery life is amazing, I do long videos for events so this camera does it amazingly, built in ND, the XLR inputs, ergonomically its weird in start but after some time everything is where it should be. And 1080p recording is still KING for YT, FB commercials and similar stuff.

@@loneshootr I was looking for a C100 mk II for almost a year, as here in my country there is not many of them for sale and usually go for 1200€ or more, and when I saw it for 800€ in January I bought it immediately. Its amazing to work with and I use soviet era glass only and love the image. The footage is much sharper compared to the M50 from which I went to C100 and also the C100 has the 850 base ISO which is very handy, also at 3200 ISO looks less noisy then M50 at 400 ISO. And file size togather with ease of use on older machine is the best thing about it, also if you go this route dont get Mark I as it doesnt shoot mp4 and AVCHD is pain to work with in DaVinci Resolve as it needs to be transcoded. But Mark II support both mp4 and AVCHD.
