Can’t help but notice, as soon as you put Landrover parts in the Commer it started leaking. They didn’t even need to be fitted to it, the proximity was enough 🤣

Rewatching this clip for the 10th or so time. I'm in the process of preparing to semi-copy your project, only without all of the cool machined parts, unless I can manage with files and chisels 🙂. I've got a 2000 Saab 9-5 Aero estate, in the US, that I've gathered all of the parts for a rebuild of the engine. I kind of don't like the idea of using that engine, B235R, and then scrapping the body, as they are getting pretty rare over here and I do love the ride in it....silly, sentimental attachment ahat always end up being more expensive, so I am toying with the idea of finding a B234, as I understand that they may be a bit more stout? Maybe it would be smarter / easier to pull all the gear out of the 9-5 though, that way I'd have the ecu, etc and could, hopefully, just transfer all of it over... For the meantime I'm scouring the junkyards in my area to find an Isuzu Rodeo with the correct transmission, as we didn't get the Vauxhall Frontera over here. Is the model of transmission that you have, the MUA5, from the V6 version? Finally, I'm also looking ahead to the axles. I understand that the LR Discovery stopped making solid axles in 2004, correct? Is there a year that I should be looking at, for the best specs (brakes, ratios, etc)? Thanks for any insight! I'm living vicariously through your awesome build.

Oh god a video on mapping the ecu on the saab would be brilliant! Been trying to do this for years but being pre ODB2 nothing I used would commicate properly. Did buy a tech2 though which has some use but not for mapping

I'm not using the Disco 2 wheels from this video, they are horrible! I'll be going to steels of some sort to keep it more standard looking. Fronteras have independent front suspension so I could only use the rear and then I'd have a real hard time trying to match up another manufacturer front axle with the same diff ratios etx

Oh dear those Disco 2 axles I would not touch with a barge pole, best axles are early pattern Series 4 Defender as they have full floating hubs much larger and beefier and if you want fit free wheeling AVM hubs for better fuel burn on road. Disco 2 axles are three quarter floating hubs bolted straight on the half shafts like a Jeep Cherokee, a bit weedy.

Where are the weak points that would make you avoid them?The reasons I went for them were the diff allows me to fit a relatively affordable LSD (Trutrac) the brakes are big and parts are easy to find. I'd have preferred Disco 1/Defender axles mainly because the steering arm setup would be simpler to make but as far as I was concerned at the time (rightly or wrongly) these would be ideal 😄

@@LivingMyBoostLife Weak points are the open swivels, small close set hub bearings like a family car, no I stand by what I say. for a robust Landy axle cannot beat a Series 2A-3 early Series 4 defender unit, hubs nice and large, wide spaced bearings with the option of freewheeling hubs if that Vauxhall Isuzu box you are fitting is part time all wheel drive. The Tracta Rzeppa joints far better at transmitting power to both front wheels. As for disc stoppers a Spanish Santana disc conversion suitable for Series 3 axles with full floating hubs. Series 2 2A 3 and 4 axles have a safety feature you do not know, if the stub shaft snaps, the wheel and hub will stay on the axle. My old boss Brian had a Series 2A 2,25 petrol he used to drag broken down cars to his garage for repair and resus, that old 2A was bomb proof, should know that as you had one.
