hi, great videos - helping me loads with my UAZ! Where did you get the soundproofing carpet for the cab? or did you make it yourself? Thanks.

@@tomnicholson6999 thanks! I bought the sound proofing it from Uaz Liefhebbers Nederland in The Netherlands. Was about €70 I think.

@@traceypotts9425 It certainly sounds faster than it is 😄 It's always been a little underwhelming for the amount of power the engine should be producing. I think that's mainly down to poor gearing and the auto box. Plans are underway to rectify both issues. I will make this van "fast"

Quality. Those Commer vans weren't exactly known for their handling prowess, so double thumbs up for being daft enough to chuck a Saab Turbo motor into one.

With all those cooling fans your electric current demand will skyrocket so fitting a bigger alternator is a good idea.
@LivingMyBoostLifeАй бұрын
The good thing with these more 'modern' engines is that they have pretty substantial alternators anyway. Not the 45amps of something feable like a period alternator. By chance the spare alternator that went on was a 120amp instead of the 90 that came off.
@minidvantАй бұрын
Might want a fan master switch to turn them off for the 1/4 mile sprint?
@basiltaylor8910Ай бұрын
@@LivingMyBoostLife Relieved to hear the replacement 120amp alternator is up to the job providing enough current to drive all the cooling fans. Are you intending to make and fit two ram air scoops under Psycho Pig,s front valance, like a Scooby WRC Rally Car.
@basiltaylor8910Ай бұрын
Psycho Pig getting hot and bothered on the motorway even in a compromised state, he is soo cool, down to the rust pox on the front valance. Lord Rootes never intended his Commer PB Series Van to go that fast and are you fitting fatter tyres?.
@LivingMyBoostLifeАй бұрын
Wider but standard looking wheels are the plan. Hope to run some fatter tyres then.
@basiltaylor8910Ай бұрын
@@LivingMyBoostLife Think it is a good idea, the missus will be p----d off spending the shopping money on more pram tyres . Must take Psycho Pig to the Goodwood Festival of Speed, show those snooty toffs you can have speed ,fun on a budget and do a few smoking burnouts on those skinny pram tyres.

As a fellow lover of a once great, now defunct car maker. I feel for you. For you Saab, for me Holden (look up a the Torana GTR-XU1), and we both love Reliants. The four wheeled variety. Specifically the se5 and se5a. I'm in NZ, where there are "lots" of Scimitars. New Zealand took a particular liking to them.

I've re-looked at the car, yes they are flush, but your thumbnail looks like the wheels are sticking out past the guards like a yank off roader. If you look at the vid's thumb nail, you'll see my mistake. We were just running the original Dunlop wheels, but widened.

Give me a xHP stage 2 tuned ZF8 box over a DCT any day. The best box ever created. Reliable as hell, faster shifting than even a DCT, especially on the down shift, and smooth as all hell. I will only use ZF8 boxes now. If you ever give up on the DCT.
@LivingMyBoostLifeАй бұрын
I've got a ZF8 and controller for another project
@Tight--LiNeZАй бұрын
Very unique, but wouldn't a Rover V8 be so much more simple and tunable?
@LivingMyBoostLifeАй бұрын
I don't think so. Don't see many Rover V8s above 300hp
@Tight--LiNeZАй бұрын
I meant from an availability point of view. Also seems very odd (I guess obscurity is half of the attraction with Saabs, like the hipster of car brands) to put that configuration engine in an engine bay made for a V engine. One of the Japanese V6's seems to make more sense. I have always thought the long bonnet on a Se5/6 Scimitar, seems like it should have a straight six, but that length is for the spare wheel etc. Imagine a BMW N54/N55 and onward turbo six in there, mated to your DCT. Although if you have ever driven a xHP tuned ZF8 box, you will realise why BMW dropped the DCT's in favour of the ZF8. I hated torque converter auto boxes, until I drove a car with a ZF8. They have single handedly made auto's cool again and found in nearly every performance car there is nowadays, and for good reason. A total revelation to a manual only stalwart like myself. The service intervals are also a thing of wonder. I put the ZF8 box down as one of the greatest automotive inventions of this century. I guess the whole point for you though, is uniqueness. There can't be many Scimys out there with a Saab engine, especially with a BMW DCT gearbox. You are clearly an interesting/eccentric bloke and a sucker for punishment, but with your fabrication skills and equipment, I imagine there isn't much you can't make work and repair. Replacing rusty chassis outriggers on your one must be piece of cake. They don't salt the roads here in NZ, so there's a lot less rusty chassis, like I remember there was in the U.K. Oh geez, that reminds me...Black slush, and it getting dark at 4pm. Eww...shudder....
