You are significantly and increasingly statistically likely to have a stroke or sudden death from neck surgery or opiod/pain killer usage, especially misuse/OD. So...as a patient, how do I go about finding someone who can do this in my area? I've seen several chiropractors but none seem to know how to do the upper cervical adjustments without using a tool. In other words they can't do it manually.
@jaredmeyer8806
@jaredmeyer8806 5 жыл бұрын
The vast majority of chiropractors will perform manual manipulation of the upper cervical spine, have extensive training in doing so, and perform them routinely. I would suggest looking for a chiropractor or physical therapist that spends a lot of time on assessments and re-assessments. Chiropractors and physical therapists that use evidenced-based techniques practice in much the same way and use many of the same therapies. Just as Brent suggested in the video, manipulations should be followed up with home exercise. I would suggest finding a chiropractor that combines in-office therapy with home exercise programs. A great place to look for these chiropractors would be clinics with names that contain spine and sport, rehab, or muscle and joint. If you do not have one of those in your area, call around and see if there are any PTs that are comfortable and experienced in performing manipulations. When it comes to your upper cervical spine, make sure you find a practitioner that is experienced, professional and can articulate why the therapy is beneficial or not beneficial for your individual case.
@brownie2521
@brownie2521 4 жыл бұрын
If you are looking for a physical therapist I would recommend finding one that has additional certification/ training with orthopedic manual therapy. I have a COMT through Maitland for example and there is just a lot more time spent working on accuracy with mobilizations and manipulations as you go through that process. This was a great video and very well detailed. I also teach the spine course for a physical therapy program and this is not an entry level technique that we introduce. Most PT's without additional training would not be comfortable performing this manipulation but in the right hands it can be extremely effective.

Hello, greetings from Colombia! I've been having a few progressive symptoms which started our of the blue 13 months ago, such as tension headaches, stiff neck, blurry vision, TMJ soreness, dizziness, nystagmus, nausea, tinnitus, and recently, daily acid reflux. All of my neurologycal MRI's and x-rays went perfect, however, the only possible explanation is that I have a completely straight neck (cervical kyphosis). Unfortunately, here in Bogotá, there are no chiropractors specialized in upper cervical spine, but there are a few great regular chiropractors trained in the US. Do you think these symptoms could be related with cervical kyphosis? Could a chiropractor help me? Thanks!!

Brent Brookbush Oof... which is weaker logic: My post or pretending your ability to make gas escape from synovial fluid to cause a cool sound makes you a doctor? 😬
@brentbrookbush9505
@brentbrookbush9505 4 жыл бұрын
@@williejamehufff3125 Your logic is weaker evidently; I do have a doctorate in physical therapy, and the idea of gas escaping is related to a cavitation and not related to the gas leaving the joint, and the pop itself is not related to outcomes. It's more of a bi-product than a goal. One theory regarding what causes the "popping sound" (again being separate from outcomes), is a sudden change in intra-articular joint pressure that causes a rapid release of dissolved gasses in intra-articular fluid. Thank you for proving your lack of education. Care to make anymore assumptions? Dr. B2

@@wesporter2176 Hi Wes, I wasn’t talking about a NUCCA adjustment. I was referring to a regular chiro just adjusting the neck. Never again!!! However, that being said, I did see a certified NUCCA chiropractor, he was a joke as far as I’m concerned. It was a gentle adjustment, did not hurt. He wanted me to sign a contract and told me it would take about 40 adjustments to correct, I told him I would not. . I just told him I would do it month to month and see how it went. I went for 18 visits, he only adjusted me 9. The rest he just looked at me and had me sit for a while and that was it. Yes the C1 and C2 can be out of place, any vertebrae for that matter can, but I knew going in that the only thing that moves bones are MUSCLES!! So the root problem is with the muscles causing the vertebrae to be pulled out of alignment. If you don’t fix the muscular dysfunction then you really haven’t corrected the root cause. Like I said I knew this going in, but when your in discomfort your willing to try anything. Most of these Nucca doctors do want you to sign these ridiculous unethical agreements. Shouldn’t take 40 treatments for any reason. If it does, then there’s something wrong. I was stupid to do it. I’m not saying all nucca doctors are bad, but the one I had was. It’s a cash cow business for some.

Hi Brent, I have a question if you happen to see this. It's about chin tucks. I don't know if you believe in them or not, though it seems 98% of the medical community prescribe them for forward neck etc.. I was reading some PT's opinion on doing them. He has a lot of research to back it up. He says if you have a reverse curve(cervical kyphosis), it can cause the spinal cord to stretch and shear. Doing chin tucks with a reverse curve can tear the spinal cord up! Worse part yet to come, our spinal cord doesn't always feel what is happening. You can damage it daily for years w/o knowing. Excessive mid back round(upper cross syndrome) while doing chin tucks is pointless. Fix the rounding first then focus on the neck. I value your expertise and was wondering what your opinion on this would be.
@brentbrookbush9505
@brentbrookbush9505 4 жыл бұрын
There is no way there was research of "tearing the spinal cord up", it just is not possible. The spinal cord is in many layers of lubricated sheaths. Even impinging on the spinal cord is very unlikely... and because we did a low force, low velocity, small amplitude motion like chin tucks... it's ridiculous. We do a various of chin tucks at the Brookbush Institute. You can see all of our progressions in the course "Deep Cervical Flexor Activation". Dr. B2
