USATC S160 Steam Loco tackles one of the steepest lines in UK preservation: Churnet Valley Railway

Churnet Valley Railway’s S160 5197 in US Army Transportation Corps Black livery creates a great steam locomotive sound track as she tackles the 2nd steepest gradient on a UK preserved steam railway through the glorious British countryside on the Churnet Valley Railway, Staffordshire.
The video runs from Cheddleton station to just short of Ipstones, with the epic climb starting from Leek Brook Junction at around 5mins in the video.

That’s one hell of a climb up there, and it was definitely enhanced by having a noisy S160 (I know they’re not everyone’s cup of tea but I like them) up front! I’m hopefully having a first trip on the line later in the year and watching this has made me really look forward to getting up there.

Yeah, I didn’t think the S160 would be for me, but I did enjoy it actually! That’s great to hear, it’s definitely worth a trip- I hope you enjoy it! I would recommend the Breakfast train as great value for money at only £8 more than a day ticket.

Yes they are very underrated locos I've worked on this locomotives sister at the nymr reliable runners aswell
