That is too funny... I used mine for the same thing. The previous owner of our house forgot the alarms pass code, and the local security company wanted to replace the whole system. $10 and a few minutes i was able to read the codes from the EEPROM. Figured i wasn't the only guy with this problem.

Thanks a million for the very clear and straightforward demonstration and especially for the driver/software download links. As you pointed out, there are tons of vendors selling this item (and hundreds of video demos) but almost without exception they do not include links to the drivers and software. Some of the articles and videos say (with what I suspect is the desire to tantalize) something like "you can find the drivers online" ... which you can, but only after a lot of poking about, sifting out the bogus, etc. Thanks for a cogent and detailed demonstration.

I have since included all files in a single zip file and in the link in this video's description. When I created this video, the software I found was in separate files. Just unzip every thing to the same folder and follow my steps.

Each USB eeprom programmer apparently uses whatever orientation of the socket they like. For anyone getting a NIYOTO CH341 programmer from amazon that has no headers and only the zif and crystal on top, the orientation is the same as in this video... pin 1 closest to the zif release arm, and 24 series chips go with the notch closest to the arm. I could identify the 24 series location because pins 1-4 are all tied to ground.

Kris, Thank You for the very informative video! I purchased the 341A unit to read an eeprom in a used GM Delco replacement radio. I plan to change the VIN number on the chip to match my current vehicle’s VIN to get the radio to communicate on the vehicle’s bus. The dealer wants $150 to do it with their TechII programming tool, hopefully I can do it myself and learn something useful in the process:)

I've seen several of these programmer devices by now, and it seems the direction that the lever faces is more or less random.. thankfully the eeprom chips aren't too sensitive if you put them in the wrong way. Great presentation Kris. I curious if it's possible to read and write to a chip that is soldered to a PCB. I have a project involving the control module in my automobile, and don't feel comfortable de-soldering the chip to reprogram it. I'm sure making jumpers would be equally challenging but less destructive. Thanks for the video, I had no idea chip programming was this easy.

For its case i'd have to build a cable for connecting it to the board, thats not a problem but how to wire it to the board is.

+yonutfilip After corrupting my chip whilst updating I just bought a new bios chip and fitted it for £ 8.00. (myworld.ebay.co.uk/bios-master) I used a set of long nose pliers to remove it and replace (There is a special tool you can purchase at low cost), Just make sure that the orientation is correct and the dimple is facing the same way as your original chip You need the mother board model for ordering which can be found on the mother board or the box it came in. example ASUS M5A78L LE The chip itself is usually close to the clear cmos jumper with the Asus board and has 4 pins on either side but can check with the boards manual

I've seen that message, but it was due to chip in the wrong orientation--the status may indicate if "a chip is present" i can't remember exactly what the status is. I seriously doubt it. The chip i showed held 32K of data, and i'm sure you ROM bios is a very different chip. I've never flash my MB bios but I would call ASUS and see if they can walk you through re-flashing your bios.

It looks like the software supports chips up to 64MB in size. Their chip finder feature shows the chip I need (a 128MB Winbond), but it won't select it, and I can't seem to get any other 128MB chip selected. Is there a solution for this?

Having a bit of trouble with a W25Q40BV winbond chip and this reader. Confirmed it works on other chips in my stash, just can't get this one to read. That said I don't know for certain that the chip is good- it's in circuit, part of a Zwave wifi controller, and I'd rather not desolder it if I don't have to. I'm not sure if you're still active on here but I tried plugging my USB in and installing the driver, whenever I hit on install it says "The drive is successfully pre-installed in advance!" it doesn't say "drive success!" as yours did. You will first need to determine the series you bios is, the programmer I show is for series 24 or 25, the description shows a list of supported EEPROMS. Then you will need the bin or hex file--i have no idea where you can get that from.

I have a 16 pin ADC EEPROM I dont think this software or hardware doesnt communicate with them correct? I believe i will have to buy a universal programmer

Maybe someone or the video producer knows how i can use the pins directly on pcb of these eeprom reader ch341 next to the green box directly on the pcb.

Hey Chris have you had any luck reading chips on the boards. I can read the chip outside of the board but I can't read it in the board . I have to unsolder the chip in order to work. I am using the alligator teeth connection. Soon as I link up the chip,alligator connector and the reader, The program reads on the corner "Device status: not connected" I have flip the chip back and fourth and have done almost everything I can think of but no luck. I also have seen other people reading it with no problem. Anyways any help would be appreciated.

I don't think you can read chips while they are installed.

Help me please....I have used one of these readers to read the crash data from a 2010 MX5 but all I get is a full set of 0's zeros, I have a good airbag ECU from an '06 MX5 and when I hooked it up I am still getting all zeros, does anybody have any clues.....
