The description of the footwrap outsole is a bit misleading. The footwrap is designed for the skate, which you can also walk in when needed. It is not designed to be a high spec walking shoe, as priority is given to performance when inside the skate. The new outsole is almost completely flat, with some spring in the toe area for walking. This is to maximise contact with the plate and the shock absorber, and to reduce a raised heel.

The original DL Xsjado "foot-wraps" were perfect IMO. The entire skate was close to perfect IMO. Only 2 things I felt would improve the brand... reduce the size of the soul or offer a smaller soul option and create additional shell sizes.

I agree with you on everything except for the Midstrap, the first ones were too thick. I definitely like the thinner one much more (from first farmer models/not the 2.0). The sizes issue was fixed with the 2.0 plates.

@@gooutoffashionI also agree, the OG wraps were so comfy. I wore a couple daily for quite some time. The instep thickness was very much a personal preference that really made models unique to each other. I ended up liking the thinner one more.

I love the concept of the doops, I wish there were more skate manufacturers working on refining it. I think it has a lot of potential, but like you said, they've basically been the same since the Xsjado.

"you have to accept the feeling of xsjado" this is really true. I used to have a pair pretty early back then when xsjado still owned by salomon, switching from USD only experience, i could not adjust myself to it at all, especially the crazy flex and the super wide soulplate. After few more years of skating and trying out different stuff, i got myself another pair when the brand was owned by USD that time and when the xsjado 2.0 arrived, by then i really gotta say i love it so much that i dont even feel like taking it off after every session. hahahaha.

The upper strap having 2 sides was revolutionary, it helped with my ankle turn-in a LOT. I disagree with the footwrap though, powerslide has never been able to replicate what the originals had. They’ve never fit me right or felt good in the skate. The only good model they put out was the DW2, probably the DW1 as well, but I never skated it. The frames were definitely tricky, until you broke them in, they didn’t lock at all. I’d be willing to bet they are shorter frames for better turning. I skated freestyle a few years back on 270mm and mobility was awful.

I have had a love/hate for xsjado for decades now. They are hands down the best fitting skates for me, but I lose a bunch of tricks in them. The 2.0 should have been what I needed, but it really wasn't. @@Thisissoul

Really good review. One thing I noticed on my skates (size 44) is that they have an adjustable plate at the bottom on the soul plate to adjust the size between the different sizes (I believe it goes from size 10 US up to 13/14 or something). So there appears to be two sizes of soul plates, S or L.
@xsjadomi
@xsjadomi 10 ай бұрын
Exactly what I was adressing in my comment: The review is a bit misleading; there are indeed four sizes in the 2.0 (one-piece soulplate), but the OG, Salomon-designed 1.0 plates (the 3-piece one) comes in 2 sizes only. When Powerslide created the four sizes for the 2.0 soulplates, they did not do so for the 1.0 plates (which IMHO is a huge missed opportunity and causing a lot of confusion in skaters’ head)

@@xsjadomi yeah I saw your comment after I wrote mine. I remember when Xsjados were first released (started skating back in 2000) but never owned a pair until the DL release. Based on your name I figure you are pretty familiar with them 😊

true, thank you for adding this in the comments! Also the adjustability of the cuff in relation to where it sits in the soulplate is not mentioned!

Most people new to xsjado, tend to wear them too loose. I dont know about this specific model but if you tighten the top straps properly, the tongue will not pop out and the skate in general isn't too flexy. In fact, i startet with 76mm wheels (mostly fitness skating) after a 13 year break with very weak ankles. With no Problems.

@@kevin_howell okay, like I said I don't know this specific model. I only tried the footwraps and these footwraps are a topic in themselves. ( they are just bad 😞). But just in general - I noticed most people wear xsjados way too loose.

@gooutoffashion
@gooutoffashion 7 ай бұрын
@kevin_howell It is comfy to wear ... and it is not completely bad, but in comparison to the original footwraps it's a disappointing experience. It is a bit too high and has too much material on the top (under the midstrap). Which means that you don't get the Mid Strap as close to your foot as it was in the past. With the current footwraps, the mid-strap-support mostly comes from the top. In the original footwraps the midstrap/ankle strap was closer to the foot, so that it kinda wrapped around the front of your ankle, if that makes sense. This gave way more lateral support (Exactly what is most frequently criticized about these skates). The sole is too thick and doesn't provide the connected feeling of the original. In the heel area is too much material, too. It's kinda hard to get to the back of the cuff (maybe that's just me). I had every generation of xsjados and at least 8 different footwraps and these are almost the worst footwraps (the worst was the Kelso model and there were some other weird fashion-shoes-wannabes in the past I never tried). But if you're happy with them ... Good for you 👍

@@gooutoffashion Wow thanks for the extensive explanation :D These are my first Xsjados and bought them mostly out of curiosity to try them, so i have zero experience with them except for 2 sessions. I'll keep them and use them occasionally but my main skate is a 909. I actually wanted the Enin model but it's sold out in my size everywhere...

Ivo, I have followed your career in the industry since the Be-mag forum days when you were creating all those frakenskates. In almost all cases, you come across as very knowledgeable and well-prepared not just in these reviews but with all your content. However, I can’t recall the last time I’ve heard so much misinformation in one video. And I am not talking about your opinion of the skates, but rather factual mistakes (release dates; showing a Powerslide produced Xsajdo, the Damien Wilson II as the first OG, Salomon-made one; sizing info of the 1.0 soulplates, cuffs being totally symmetrical; judgements made purely on the current model vs. the OG, Salomon-made skates, etc.) I wish you had been better prepared, had more experience with the OG Xsjados and were a bit less biased against Xsjados. I understand that this is a USD Shadow review, but I believe that this review does not do justice to the ingenious concept by Shane, Dustin, Farm (and I’m sure many others) as well as the outstanding quality of the product by Salomon. It is a true shame what these skates have turned into, owing to Powerslide’s cost cutting and use of cheap materials, as well as the lack of proper quality control. You just cannot compare the two skates. Yet, I am happy to see Eugen and Powerslide pushing the Shadow brand and trying to re-ignite the fire that once surronded this brand. And I do appreciate Powerslide efforts into design and trying to improve. I hope some day you will have a better Shadow skate in your hands, which you can provide a more precise review about. (And yes, I am a die hard OG Xsjado fan, but I have ridden countless other skates on the market, so I hope to have some insight here.)

Great video. At the same time I have had a very different experience. My feet are pretty wide and I have ordered one size ABOVE my regular shoe size and they still felt extremely tight. I initially thought about returning them, but then decided to wear not just the sneaker, but the whole skate for about an hour to see how my feet would feel. Now guess what happened: The feeling got WORSE and there is a notable reason why that happened. Apparently the cuff and soulplate are not made for each individual shoe size, but kept more general. They come in only 3 different sizes that have to fit to all the different shoe sizes. I ordered shoe size 46 and therefore got the cuff and soulplate size L. However that size is actually too small for a shoe size 46, which resulted in the front of the sneaker being pushed together from left and right. This additional pressure caused so much pain that I just could not keep the skate. I would advise you not to buy this skate if you have to buy a size 46 or 47.
