The looks cool. The thing you need to do is add a valve at the burner and small air hole that you can close with a piece of cut tin and hose clamp to hold it in place. The valve builds pressure in the oil cooker. The air hole at the beginning of the burner allows for mixing of air and gas so that proper combustion takes place. Thanks for sharing I will have to build one of these for a heater this next winter.

You have the 'makings' of a great idea. The oil will not have too many 'light ends' to make either a vapor or light liquid. Same type process you are playing with is used in refineries in concept. So have fun and invent!

I filter my WMO through re-usable shopping bags (the fabric kind). This takes it down to around 30-5 micron depending on buildup inside the bag. Then I put it through a 1 micron filter sock. It all costs about 20 dollars. You can also build a centrifuge for under 200 and run it off a generator that's being run by a gasifier.

Get a big metal barrel and some big stove pipe and I'd out that setup in the barrel and make a shop heater just put a drip feed to the canister. Great idea im gonna try it out

The burner fuel air mix will have nothing to do with the engine fuel air mix, They are separate systems. Once you install a tin shield to block the wind you can tune the f/a mix better(Oriface size looks a little meaty too), burner efficiency and output consistency will go way up. Use a Tee fitting with 2 ball valves to adjust the fuel mix on the engine. Use one of the ball valves to let in air. That seems to work best on the gasifiers I've looked at that work well. if you were to take a 8-10" piece of stove pipe and seal off one end and slide this down inside of it after you add the aforementioned extra air intake pipe inside for regulation you could effectively control the heat and make it produce more efficiently as well as contain the heat to use it for other purposes.

Can the air be introduced through the top of the oil tank near the closed end, rather than pushing it in the same pipe that you are getting the gas from? I wonder if an air draw system would work without a compressor? Really like your videos, and am looking forward to more on the gasifier. Do you live in the Sierra Foothills above Sacto?

with some small burner tips, to draw air into the flame and, adjusting the distance to the reservoir, you should have a very blue flame. A shield to block the wind would help. There is so much flame, that it will gasify very fast. So what if you adjust the flame, and used the excess gas for a small engine? Back flash is a real danger so, you should have some screen material or back flash arresters. Good job on the build and video !

Have you considered installing a bent piece of tin around the bottom of the burner tube that angles up at a 45? this would provide some air deflection and localize the flame...

Consider putting a sheet metal V around the burner/gasifier. It should direct heat back in and prevent wind from blowing heat away from the gasifier.

you have to mix fresh air in the burner, make a tube inside of another to succefully regulate air intake, the firs one with a hole to let the fresh air get inside.

I'm a little confused. So you're heating up used motor oil until it turns to gas, and you are then burning the gas produced to continue heating the motor oil? And do you know the chemical reactions involved with this? Are you burning only the oil, only the contaminants, or both the oil and the contaminants?

Anthony Navarro this is called thermally cracking hydrocarbon chains into smaller chains. if he were to distill the exhaust he would get diesel, kerosene, and gas. there would still be a flammable hydrogen gas byproduct that can be used as a heat source to continue the reaction. you do need to provide an initial heat source to start the cracking process.

If you cooled the exhaust by bubbling it through water, diesel and gas will float to the top of the water. you are thermally cracking long hydrocarbon chains. this can be done with any hydro carbon even plastic.

Your burner could use smaller holes, it needs more holes, and to be a little closer to the atomizer. Some sheet metal would help hold in, and draw heat around the atomizer and shield the burner from wind .

you need to install a orffice in front of burner and a control valve for the gas flow to burner also the burner holes need to be much smaller,you also need a mixer valve to allow the gas to mix with a small amount of air

the flame likely goes back into the burner because there is too much oxygen being added to the oil vapor too early in the system so that the mixture is flammable back in the tube.

so I have watched you video and thanks for the ideas so I took it a bit further and found that if you did twice as many holes at about half the size they are it would burn better because of the increased air velocity and a second change that would help a lot is if you cooled the smoke maybe run it through a few feet of pipe in a bucket full of water and the back into the point you have it going in now

Your "reactor" would be better if you used an old Pressure cooker. And of course you need a cowling to keep outside air from blowing away your heat. A spiral shaped tube with holes drilled in it would serve as your burner. My first rig used copper pipe with no problem. I don't know why you chose a gasifier when a Babington Burner is simpler.

Burns too rich! You need to blend Air/Oxygen to gases and you will be able to burn it as a blue flame. To do that: Connect a 1/4 HP regenerative blower to same pipe you punched number holes but you have to be able to adjust the speed using single phase VDF and you will get there.

"Recycled" oil is mostly repurposed as heating oil. He's just "cutting out the middleman."

Recycled oil is usually burnt - or mixed with rocks, dumped on the ground, and called asphalt. Not many other uses for it. If one can use waste oil in place of other fuels, it's far more environmentally friendly to burn it where it is.
