I wouldn't count on it. RVs are in big demand because people can no longer afford homes. Investment companies like Vanguard and Blackrock are out bidding single family home sales and Turning them over to Rental management agencies. This is Nationwide/worldwide. Part of Klaus Schwabs Great Global Reset of Owning nothing and being happy about it. RV parks are crammed to the gills and people are moving from park to park with intermittent boon docking. Everyone is trying to be a RV KZbin channel hoping to make a living. But Gas is so prohibitive now lots of people will end up being land squatters at some point. RVS Literally litter Seattle and Portland areas.

I beat the price explosion last Feb (2021) and got my 28ft Aspen Trail 2340BHSWE, TT for 23,600. I had a dealer who had one on the lot for a couple months. My local dealer was up to 29K but wouldn't budge and so I went with the one 50 miles away. Not as good a service dept, but close to a six K difference I couldn't pass up. I've watched prices on RV Trader go as high as the mid 40K range over the last year on my unit...until about Jan where they have stabilized in the 30 to 32K range new. I've looked at 5th wheels and have been offered as much as 7K more than I paid for mine (June/July 2021) but the price increases on the fivers has offset the advantage. Short fifth wheelers have gone up 10 to 15K, same models, in a year also... One I looked over in 2020 at 32K is now 50K in most places...

I always tell people, that if you buy new, plan on spending the first two years shaking all of the bugs out of the system. With the increased RV production and the decrease in already questionable quality control, getting your new RV through warrantied work might take 6 - 12 months for each issue. The dealerships lack the room and technicians. I bought a higher end used rv back when they were $15-20k less than new and had a reserve for fixes the previous owner didn’t repair. Either I would fix that it or find competent mechanics. Also, if buying used, I recommend a thorough rv inspection and nickel and dime them for every issue. People who buy into the romance of rving will get tired of it once reality hits or when they realize they got the wrong type/size.

Indeed, buyer beware, especially when buying high ticket items! Well I've bought vehicles from dealers and I've bought vehicles from private owners and guess what I'll go private owner everyday...all four my RVs were purchased from private owner ...every time I went to the dealer they were double pricing and double interest and jacking everything up... and they never fix things like they say they will. I wonder why more dishonest dealings happened with RV & Car dealers... especially the used ones

The current prices for new RV's is way out of whack. They aren't worth nearly as much as they have to charge now for a number of reasons. I'm so thankful I bought a new RV in May of 2020 before any price increases happened and you could still get a decent discount off MSRP. If something happened and I had to buy now, I wouldn't. I love RVing but not enough to be stupid with my money.

Same here. We bought a Lance 2285 in September 2020 and got 20% off MSRP. Between price increases and dealers not having to discount, the same trailer now costs almost $20,000 more. Put another way, the Lance 1685 - a significantly smaller model - now costs as much as ours did just 18 months ago. We didn’t realize it at the time, but we bought at the perfect time. And despite being a “COVID camper” built in August 2020, the quality is outstanding and we’ve had only a few very minor issues.

I lived as a roommate in a house that was sold right before Christmas of 2020. I didn't have the money to get an apartment, or anything in my county because of five years of wildfires. Everything has been taken and people were sleeping on couches and backyard still. I had been looking online and Marketplace for hours daily until late morning hours. I happen to decide to look at one more message that popped up on Marketplace at 3 AM. It was for a 98 fifth wheel. The lady posted it for her brother. I got a call at 7 AM to go look at it. Within 30 minutes after she posted it, she had over 80 messages. I was the first one thankfully who messaged. I got this trailer (with a family loan) and it was in great shape for a 98. I'm basically doing the lipstick and rouge thing. I did coat the roof, and I'm adding solar within a month. With the way things are going, this was the best decision I ever made.

I agree. I got a used 5th wheel in 2021. Paid probably a lil more than I wanted. I just rent a spot on my friends land in the forest. Dirt cheap compared to renting a home. The old “if you want an RV, get an RV” saying just reinforces my belief that consumers are being used. If, after paying your house payment/rent, utilities, other NECESSARY bills, car payment/transportation, food, and putting at least 5% of pay in savings, then shop away. BUT, realize that an RV is akin to that definition of boat ownership. “Always bigger and ‘a hole in the water into which you pour your money.” Once you purchase an RV there’s solar, lithium batteries, better tires, a better mattress, tire pressure monitor, better hitch, portable fire pit, flagpole, better steps, outside carpet, “Blue Betty”, longer/better hoses (water and waste), wi fi extender, generator, RV ark memberships, etc. Not that they need all of that but once one RVs, they start watching YT vids most of which are commercials for “stuff”. Stuff they probably cannot afford because their budget is stretched thin. And then there’s the RV’ers who experience medical issues while, after selling EVERYTHING to “live free” have nowhere to go except an RV park which may or may not have space to let you stay long enough to recuperate. I have parked next to several. I have more to say but this site is just as much a carnival hawker as are the rest of sites on YT. Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Fossil fuel price will always affect the purchase of new and used RVs. Over the years travel trailers were the most economical. The insurance is less, and you can use the pull vehicle for recreational driving at your destination. The fuel usage pulling a trailer is not a factor when comparing it to a class A motorhome. Pulling a trailer, I was getting 6 to7 miles per gallon of gas. My motorhome gets 7 to 9 miles per gallon of dsl. The plates for my motorhome are $300.00 per year, the insurance is around $1400.00 per year. The tires need replaced every 7 years and this last year I replaced them at a cost of around $4000.00. A refrigerator 3 years ago was just over $4000.00. I had it serviced last fall, the oil and filter change, complete lube for entire chassis, leveler's reset, rpl two batteries, change all fuel filters. this was a little over $900.00. At the fuel prices at this time filling the tank will cost $900.00. I don't think the price of fuel will return to the range it was before the present administration got in. Our leaders want to eliminate fossil fuels. As soon as the mid elections are over, they will continue with their quest of getting rid of fossil fuels. I feel they got the cart before the horse and the citizens are harnessed with the higher costs and a lowering of standard of living. I retired 13 years ago, and this year is the first time the cost of living exceeded my income. The increase in cost of living will cost the RV industry to shrink. It has happened in the past and we are headed in that direction now. History gives you a look at the future. Ray

A couple months ago we purchased a 2018 Jayco Eagle 317 RLOK from a private party. The seller did not have the title because she still owed money on it. We negotiated a fair price and my wife and I had the seller meet us at our credit union. The credit union pretty much took over the legal transfer of the 5th wheel from there, contacting the lien holder, DMV, etc. We had intended to pay cash for the rig, but decided to finance a small amount just to make certain the transfer was done right. The Jayco had not been used in the last couple years, so it needed cleanup more than anything, along with tires and wheel bearings greased. I do almost all the work on my RVs myself, so I have gone through each mechanical system, along with the roof and sealing, and serviced everything before we take it out for the camping season. Glad we made the purchase.

I was looking for a small travel trailer to keep on my property as an overflow for visiting family last year. A new one was out of the question, because I refuse to pay the ridiculous prices. I couldn't believe the prices being asked for shabby older units and all had some form of water damage. I was up early one Sunday morning, went on Marketplace and just 7 minutes before a posting for a vintage 1976 14-foot FAM had been listed, with 6 pixs. For over 20 years, except for being moved to their new home, it hadn't been on the road, and tarps had always been kept over the top year-round (she had used it for her autistic son to camp in the yard), was in mint condition and even had tires that were less than a year old (she told me she changed the tires before it was moved to their new property). She had listed it for $450.! I thought the price was wrong, but when I contacted her, she stated that was the price. I got the address and was there within 30 minutes. When I got there, she told me that people had been contacting her offering double and triple the price, but since I was on my way, she told them unless I didn't want it, I had first dib's. I, of course, bought it. It pulled smooth as silk on the ride home and it's built like a little tank, since it was built before all these newer, cheaply made "lite" ones. I doubt anyone will ever find a score as good as this again!

I understand that inflation is pushing prices up, however, the factories were playing this game of price increases for all kinds of reasons over the last two years. Now that materials have stabilized its inflation. So there is always reasons to raise prices, none to drop them. They are making a lot of money, if they were not they would slow down and some would go out of business. I think it may be helpful with a market correction.

There were a lot of RV'S sold when the pandemic started so people could get out. It's over and now people are free again. It's time to buy if your careful. Just like a new car, wait until the dealers are flooded with inventory and can't sell them, the prices will fall.

RV prices have to come down or many people just won't buy one. Then for those who have bought one during the pandemic RV mania, once they learn just how expensive and how much work Rving really is, many will probably sell and flood the market with cheap RVs.

You are right Jay, folks want it too fast and do not care, then when the deck of cards fall down.... They scream help? The only reason we are being scalped on the new ones is not that they cost more to build but there are folks paying the price. I think the prices will fall when the builders realize that people are not willing to pay so much with payments more then there home for an RV that may not even last 10 years!

We bought a new Intech Discover this year. LOVE IT! Have made a few changes but, didnt purchase it for short term, will have it long term. This camper is a mini toy hauler so we use it more for hauling then camping cuz the camping is very difficult to book spaces. Then when finally get to destination it's bee very windy so come home. A new lesson...no way of knowing the weather 6 months out. So, we are lucky that this is a "dual purpose" camper and covered trailer. Most RVers I know just have their RV in storage. Ours has been used a lot😜

Main thing..... Don't buy a camper with a lien unless you can meet in person at the holding Bank. If it's in another state walk away. And yes, make sure drivers license matches the paper title. If it's digital, make them get paper or go and meet at the dmv and let the dmv show you themselves and check everything.

Great point. Many campsites, particularly less expensive state campgrounds are booked 6 months to a year ahead. If you buy now, the only chance you will have for a decent site will be as a result of a cancellation. Buy in Fall for Spring or you may be camping in your front yard.

I consult in the industry and while I can't talk about specifics, here is something else to keep in mind. The supply chain is not working optimally and there are chronic shortages. That means that manufacturers either wait or they substitute components if they can find them. RVs are incredibly complicated and go through extensive engineering and testing under normal circumstances. These substitutions can cause quality issues. Talk to your dealer about service. Higher sales; quality issues and labor shortages, means that most RV dealers have a significant wait time for repairs.

Michael Selby - Then perhaps the correct thing to do is to only purchase 2019 or older, "pre-COVID" RV's at this time. I might consider this strategy myself as I am about to retire and have been considering a lightly used RV. I'm currently just waiting for the prices to get reasonable. I say when all the, come-lately "COVID RVers" start to get bored with it and sell off their purchases, the market will tank and I'll jump in and scarf up a barely-used one for pennies on the dollar. 😎

Good video, jibes with my research and watching both local dealers and RVTrader pricing and availability. Today, April 8, 2022. Up until a month ago, trailers of all types disappeared immediately off lots or were bought before they arrived. NOW? all the same trailers are STILL on the lots and not moving. Here in the last few days, I'm seeing prices "discounted" a couple K on some models. Same for trucks on lots. If I can get a rate in the low 3% range, I'm gonna finance if only from a cash flow standpoint. I have the money for the most part but, that's like giving money away frankly. I always have paid off early, but it's my choice on how to go about that.

I also expect the prices of used RVs to drop. The reasons mentioned in this video are part of the reason, but only part. A lot of people over the past couple years have gotten RVs as way to get out the house in the time of COVID. History shows, even pre-pandemic, that a significant fraction will not like the lifestyle and get rid of their RVs. I would expect an even larger fraction of the pandemic driven sales to do the same as other means of travel open up. Hence more RVs available and less demand should mean lower prices.

When I look at the R.V. Industry I can’t help but to compare it to the automotive industry. The quality will vary with the prices. The customer planning on using a rig for several months a year and most weekends will need a more durable and solid R.V. ( Airstream/ Lance etc ) They will pay for that level of quality. The weekend warrior can get by in an entry level rig with regular maintenance. After all you don’t see a half ton/ passenger truck on a construction site. You get what you pay for. Quality and price go hand in hand.
