I'm in tears when I saw the stone cleaner. I'm guessing she's around 60-70yrs old but she is still sitting and crouching the whole day just to clean thousands of stones. She smiled when someone talked to her maybe because she rarely talked to someone everyday but the smile vanished after she was asked to leave because of the tourists. I pity the old lady. 😥😥😥😥😥😥

Can you imagine that Kim spent his entire youth in Switzerland, without anyone there knowing who he really was (they were told he's the son of a North Korean diplomat). Former class mates described him as an ordinary guy with normal hobbies and with whom they often spent time on the sports court (yep, he hasn't been fat at that time). He always had one or two bodyguards with him but nobody was suspicious. He always told them that's because his farther is afraid he may get kidnapped and that's probably even the truth, he just didn't tell anyone who his farther was.

It's actually quite sad that a place like that exists. Speaking generally as a regular human, I genuinely feel remorse for literally anyone that is born, raised, or growing up in North Korea. The rules they are forced to follow, with minimal resources to survive really makes me grateful for what I have, and can receive through effort alone, with the reassuring thought of factually knowing I can get it. Those individuals down there are most likely forcefully put into labor to create a prosper front, but in reality, it's hell.

No, and it would be cruel to do so. When a society of people has never been allowed to make true decisions outside of which of a few allowable haircuts to get, suddenly setting them out and expecting them to be okay would harm them. These are people who can't really take care of themselves because they were never truly allowed to. It could be like taking a cat that has lived its entire life indoors, then deciding one day when they're 7 or 8 to put them outside to have some freedom in the world. Chances are high they won't survive that. They lack the skills to do basic things that cats who've always been allowed outside have. Sometimes some animals an be rehabbed, like Christian the lion, but that's often not the case. North Korea is a country with millions of people who would need rehab. It would be a lifelong process that would probably take a few generations. You shouldn't take their kids away to raise like our kids are, but they don't know how to raise their kids like ours are. It would take gradual changes. And then add to this that they're brainwashed from birth to believe their leader loves them and to love him. They struggle transitioning when one dies. To suddenly take that structure away without letting them acclimate to the idea of a supreme leadership being done away with, they're going to be traumatized. This isn't like liberating Jewish people in WWII. They had lives and skills before being held captive. North Koreans however, know nothing else and would overwhelmed and struggle with even the very idea that it's okay to get literally any haircut they want. If you wouldn't tell a 10-year-old child they're free from their parents, good luck, they you really can't so the to adults who've never had as much freedom as that 10-year-old. Unfortunately, this is a situation where the wrongs are so deeply ingrained that trying a sudden change from virtual captivity to what we see is right (and we ARE right--the Kims treat people the way we treat toys) would so more harm than good. Sometimes you have to leave the bullet where it is. :(

@@icantthinkofaname15 Very few would, and it shouldn't be put on their shoulders to save the rest. I can't think of a country in the world where the citizens wouldn't revolt if their government were to decide to take in and bear the cost of many years of rehabbing for 25 million people of another country when it's already a given that many will never be able to be rehabbed. Keep in mid that those people are in a country where the outcomes of sporting games are faked for their TV so that the citizens think that their teams win everything. Getting out of that and into the real world would be utterly terrifying. Imagine everything you think you know, everything normal to you, was gone tomorrow and you found out your state was deliberately faking everything so trick you, and that reality is very, very far from what you're used to. You probably wouldn't trust any government since they just tore down your own, a government you were brainwashed from birth to love. People there are even expected to trust Supreme Leader so much more than even their own families that they'll snitch on their own families despite how risks include execution for everyone in the family It's a sucky situation for sure, and fixing it will mean either many, many decades and a few generations of gradual change, or sudden change and accepting that people will be killing themselves left and right and most of the rest will be mistake and scared since their new life isn't a life they know and they're miserable in it. Looking at what could be done with the least harm unfortunately not intervening is going to be safest, and hoping a leader comes along who wants to change things and starts the process of loosening up more freedoms to help the people learn to make decisions and be independent for the first time in their lives.

The reality of life in NK is incredibly heartbreaking. We in the west (particularly the US) have little to complain about, yet that's almost all we ever hear - complaints about mostly insignificant things. I don't hear anyone crying out for North Koreans, yet millions cry out for silly nonsense. Personally, I thought adding the funny video clips and silly "jokes" was insensitive to the very serious subject matter. If anyone is interested in learning more about NK, there is an excellent channel by a defector named Yeonmi Park - Voice Of North Korea. I guarantee you will learn a lot.
