Great video, showing that stud removal gives me some bad flashbacks from previous jobs 😂🤦🏻♂️

My quick tip for snapped exaust manifold bolt remaining in the head, quick weld a nut centered next to/over it, you co2 weld inside of the nut so the nut welds to the snapped bolt, it doesnt weld to the aluminium. Spray immediately with warm water to cool down not to crack or warp the head, and leave it to cool down then unscrew with the welded nut. works everytime :)

thank you very much for showing how to drill center of the broken bolt. I have removed so many but never seen that trick. you can teach an old dog new tricks.

Neat trick with the guide collar. I usually pray and then drill. Sometimes finishing up the effort with a new part because I've buggered it.

You can get a left hand drill bit to drill out studs in the head and other important places. I watched a video showing three ways to extract snapped bolts in the head.

I wish you , your Father and the people you care for a happy New Year . Funny thing . I watch your uploads with interest but actually I am not into modifying engines . I rebuild engines , turbo´s , gearboxes and do diagnostics but I never had the feeling or urge to prep a car for myself and to go drifting or off-roading . Don´t be offended . I just find it funny .

when im drilling studs out i always use left handed drill bit more then a few times the heat from drilling has helped and the dril bit has been able to back the stud out rather then sending it deeper with a right handed drill bit

Beth you have grown so much as a mechanic and a film maker since I've started watching. You and your dad have produced more and more interesting videos, I'm excited when something new comes out. I must say it's wonderful to see such an attractive lady growing in competence and confidence on camera. Mark your daughter is a treasure, which I'm sure you know. Best of luck this next year.

Every day's a school day, today I've learnt how to drill and remove a broken stud correctly. I like the plug you made to get the pilot drill central, brilliant idea. All I need now is a lathe. Question for you, have you ever had any success with an easy out, because I certainly haven't, much to my disappointment. :-)
@usherengineering1794 жыл бұрын
I have only had success with an easy out when the stud is easy to remove and not stuck in the threads, thats why i drill central as i know i will be drilling and chasing out the threads in the end

I've got a snapped stud in the same place as yours. That collar you made up for drilling it out would be a great help, would you be able to make another and send it out to me? cheers
@jacobf89094 жыл бұрын
also, I found that using a flexible oil line for the feed worked better than the stock line (and avoided re-using a potentially clogged old line) when swapping the turbo on mine. It's a lot easier to get to the block fitting with the exhaust manifold off, might be worth replacing that and the drain line while you're there

Hi, my son has a 1991 940 2.0 petrol, and also a parts car 940 2.3T Auto, at some point we are going to do an engine swap but at the moment we are stuck trying to find the right size of the UJ's for his 2.0 one, there seems to be a few different ones. You don't any advice do you please?...we may have to take his prop out and measure, then order but we would like to get parts first, also doing his pilot bearing and probably a clutch change. Any advice would be great thank you!!..Also...LOVE that you are working with your Dad!!..my lad has been helping me for donkeys years since he was a kid, I restore and repair/tune lambretta's and Vespa scooters.

Some of the exhaust outlet to pipe fasteners on the big EE V engines can be very fiddly. They are 1/4BSF thread.
