Lately I`ve been using IPAD2 as midi touch controller for desktop music apps called Ableton . And it working fine . Right now I`m still looking video tutorial about app called Touch PORTAL which in theory will able turning my old ios devices into shortcut or keystroke helper for any desktop software ( especially for adobe ones)

I have this iPad on iOS 9. I finally upgraded to a 9th generation iPad. It was a little slow. I got an iPhone 12 so I stopped using it. But then I looked at the iPad. I decided to upgrade. It can still do iMessage and FaceTime. Modern apps won’t download or won’t be able to run on the latest version. I will keep it because I like to play with old technology.

I was still using mine in april 2021 when it suddenly wouldn't load any webpages. So it suddenly became useless. Quite amazingly the battery still had charge a year later! I started using with a teleprompter, it works great but I have to write the script on it. Seems it's been hobbled and won't login to google or icloud. I am still looking for a way to get text files on to it. I found apps that go on it by selecting order by age rather than relevance, in the appstore, the only problem is you can't select oldest first, so you have to scroll to the bottom of the listings. Anyone know if I can use it as a camera monitor?

@ you need a newer device so that you can load an older version of the app onto the old iPad. :) At least that worked for me in 2023.

@ I was using the iPads 2, 3 and 4 in 2022 and 2023. This year all my students got their own tablet or laptop, from 6 to 10. I personally use iPad 6 that can be borrowed since this school year because the students need to be able to write with a pen. iPad 6+ makes this much easier although it’s also possible on older models.

With a camera kit you can control a casio digital piano for example, or any midi controller, you can use garage band or some other that still works.

@@retrorevive711 yeah, the hardest part was finding an old camera kit with the 30 pin connector. I also read scores on PDF, you could use forScore but it's a paid app. Metronome apps are available as well. Netflix and Prime video work ok and Spotify doesn't show many things, but you can access recently played and your library, so, yeah, its still good for a couple of things. Great vid!

Interesting.. just bought a refurbished iPad mini I think it is the iPad mini 1. It's the first apple product I have bought and ran into the bit being able to install any apps. I was hoping your video would have some suggestions on how to sideload some apps. Every video I have seen so far has suggested using a new ios device abs then loading the apps using the ID on the newer device. Don't have any other ios device. Although I do have a mac mini, but I don't think that would work ios vs ventura os. Any suggestions?

I am a Windows user and use 3utools to sideload apps, so idk about a mac alternative. Maybe iFunBox? Also make sure you get appsync from Karen's repo. There probably tutorials online

For me in 2023 it just wouldn’t be worth the buy anymore. It has very little app support. KZbin app no longer works on the iPad second generation. I mean, if you plan on doing everything through the web browser, which is also very sluggish and slow. It’s just not worth it anymore in 2023 in my opinion, as I still have an iPad second generation, and it’s just very unusable

If you have a newer iPhone, use that same login on your iPad 2 and you will be able to download KZbin and many other apps that aren’t “compatible” with the iPad mini 2. I just did this today and it works.
