I used to claim nottley as my home lake and fished it hard for several years, especially in Jan through the first week of May. If. You got a chance to see the cutthroughs down beside the dam ramp I had the biggest striper I have ever dealt with hooked on my boat. My dad got the rod and it was just a short time before he passed so his congestive heart desiese was playing heavily on him. We worked the fish for about 10 minutes and I told dad that other than the hook wallowing out he had this fish. Just guessing and I have caught hundreds of stripers it was between 45 and 60 pounds. Dad was so tired but wouldn't give up the rod and he tried to speed up the fight which led to the ultimate error in striper fishing. He thumbed the spool. I told him not to when he did it the first time but he was stubborn and did it again breaking off the fish of a lifetime. That's a lifetime with several over 30 pounders and one 42 pounder all fresh water. We laughed about it later and I always kidded him about thumbing the spool the short time he was alive after that. To follow up on that the lake record was broken the next spring 57pounds i think. That lake makes monsters!

Man, what a great time you were able to have !! I enjoyed this different style and venue. I had never heard of this lake before this video, but i am learning more about North Georgia all the time. My daughter lives in Dalton, I live in Ky. Striper fishing can be so exciting ! The Norris and Cherokee used to have a lot of big stripers many years ago. Great video, loved everything about it! Two thrills I get when hooked up to a striper. First thrill is that first run that feels like I’m hooked to a freight train . The second thrill is that silver flash under the boat when I first see the fish.

Still my favorite fish. I prefer using spinning tackle, but I fish from the bank. You're lucky when you catch one from the bank and days with multiple fish are extremely rare. But it's like hooking up to a truck when you get one. I have caught one top water from a boat. Nothing like it. Thanks for sharing.

Hybrids fight harder. Great fun though either one. From a small aluminum boat I find I may be 200 yd away before I get the fish in. Best fun is top water plug when they are pushing shad to the surface..

Tightening your drag would help you get the fish in quicker and of stress them so bad. Fish under 20 should not pull drag if it does you are using to little of gear.😢😢😢 you should know better. But you have made the comment before you buy a license and they expect them not all to live.😢😢
@CreekFishingAdventures6 ай бұрын
ok thanks for your input but I will trust the guide that's been doing this every day for years and depends on the fish living so he can catch them again
@douglasmedlin71596 ай бұрын
Not suprised that you don't care if the fish dies.

Your guide was doing it right. Pump and reel and never thumb the spool and you can catch 50 pound fish on 15 pound test.
