No pinpointers were harmed in the making of this movie (at least not on-camera). You asked about a pinpointer that works. I don't have one, yet, but the comparison I saw on YT of four or five showed that the Whites Bullseye TRX proved superior, mainly in that the sensitivity is all at the tip, not along the shaft. Operates on two AA or one 9V - I love that. Chirps and/or vibrates. Has the deepest sensing of the group tested.

Hey there, great video and do you have any advice for someone looking to prospect in Colorado soon? should I focus on metal detecting or panning? All I have is a cheap 200 dollar coin hunting machine so I don't know if I should even bother with detecting...
@USMiner8 жыл бұрын
+diegobrown19 Panning and sluicing for sure. Colorado metal detecting is hard and almost impossible without a good prospecting detector. Most of the gold in Colorado is fine to pickers, nuggets only occasionally.

For gold I think the best value right now for a PI detector is the GPX 4500 which I also own and can confidently say it'd find 90% of the gold I found in my videos with the 7000. And for VLF's it's probably a toss up between 6 or 7 more or less equal machines, but for my purposes the Gold Bug 2 is still the best, it's discrim capabilities lag behind modern VLF's though.

Great videos there US Miner! I've only lived in Vegas 9 years, but have been wandering the desert every since, looking for weird stuff and trying to figure prospecting out. I've learned a lot about what to look for and have probably found every mineral out here but gold, lol! I have learned a Garrett Ace 250 isn't going to find anything by slugs and shells! I know I'm getting to some seemingly right spots, but I guess its time for a gear adjustment. I also own an audio company and am working on building out our post-production capabilities. If you ever want an actual camera man, hit me up, I'd love to learn from someone who knows what they're doing, since I normally go by myself.
@USMiner8 жыл бұрын
+WesternAdventuresTV The good news is that any detector can find gold if its big enough or shallow enough, the trick is finding the rare spots that have nuggety gold. Check out my "How to Find Big Gold" vid for a couple rule of thumb hints to start with if you are interested in the things I look for personally when prospecting new areas. That said, you are right, the Ace 250 is not a prospecting detector and will be a tough one to learn prospecting with. Around Vegas proper you'll have a tough time finding detectable size gold, give AZ and CA a try if you can and try to get something like a used Gold Bug 2 or GMT for $300, they'll hit sub grainer size gold easily when you learn to run them right.

What about a Land Ranger pro? Think that will work at all? I DO have a great pinpointer called a deteknix and the scuba pto from the same company. They are really great and have great range. I have been unable to detect small flakes of gold with the Land Ranger Pro, but it does peretty well on bigger gold like rings and such. I think it would go as deep as yours did in this video with those size nuggets. Not sure. Opinion from you on that?

+USMiner After you replied I've been doing a lot of reading and watching. Gave up the idea to buy something for a few hundred as it will be a waste of money. I came up to the conclusion that I'll be getting the Gold Bug 2. I live in Europe and it's still cold here so I will wait till spring. I'm curious, is the GPZ 7000 as sensitive to small gold as the Gold Bug 2. What's the smallest piece you have found with it and at what depth? For deeper gold this machine is obviously a beast :)
@USMiner9 жыл бұрын
+PhotoAdvanced The Gold Bug 2 is sensitive to smaller gold than the GPZ 7000. Smallest I've found w/GPZ is about 0.06 grams maybe 1/2" deep, with the GB2 I've found pieces that don't register on my scale. I paid $300 for my GB2 used with an extra coil so it was pretty affordable. I buy most my detectors used except the GPZ I bought new. Finding gold is hard, especially starting out new without someone to show you around, it took me around 500 hours to find my first nugget. Takes a lot of patience and 90% of people I meet give up on it so don't get frustrated too quick and enjoy the fresh air and exploration while out there this spring if you do buy a detector! Just giving some advice for the long road ahead. :)
@PhotoAdvanced9 жыл бұрын
+USMiner WOW that GPZ 7000 is definitely worth the money. One day.. :D I appreciate your advice. I've thought about these things. I will try to look at it as an adventure, a chance to spend some time out in nature as well as finding some gold. Don't know if I can be as patient as you though. Keep making more videos. Maybe also some educational videos for noobs like me :)
@USMiner9 жыл бұрын
+PhotoAdvanced That's the best philosophy to have, adventures are always fun even if no treasures are found! The best piece of advice I could give someone new (or give to myself if I could go back in time) is that you can't find gold where there is none to be found. The key to detecting success is 10% learning your machine well and 90% putting yourself where the detectable size (nugget) gold is. I approach prospecting like would Sherlock Holmes, pay attention to every detail no matter how insignificant and read and learn everything you can from history to geology, gold is a mystery in the ground, the location is the answer we are trying to solve! Good luck!
