This is a singles set between me and Desmond and Desmond's first time on the channel! Desmond likes to hit big, flashy shots and keep the points short. He plays tennis for the club team at UCI and has played at a high level in the juniors and has maintained a high level. Dang, Desmond hit such a clean ball when he was in position. And his serve (especially for his height) seemed massive. I was not expecting that much clean power... I'm seeing your game and the massive improvement is awesome. I think when you're on the ball and hit a clean shot everything looks great. TBH, I think you need more work off the court than on to jump up another level, some Pat Etcheberry stuff (or the modern equivalent). You're still a step slow and as with anyone when you're not on the ball you can't hit your best shot. A big hitter like Desmond will expose that very quickly. So if you work on all of those off court movement drills and start trying to predict earlier what shot is going to come from your opponent earlier, you can have more opportunities to be on the ball with proper spacing (as you know, spacing is paramount). The game is just so fast these days. I love your channel, man. You are such a nice, cool, dude. I think you're going to jump up a lot in the year to come!

Tennis is about playing the person at the other side of the net!!. A bit of analysis and not just hitting with no purpose. Every time you forced him to volley u got the point. Club tennis is awesome. Having guys and girls play together just helps with the vibes and keeps it from being as toxic. Plus having so many doubles spots means that the team isn't just a singles ladder that everyone's trying to climb. It genuinely feels like a team sport, and the level of play is much higher than you might expect. When I played at UNC, we had people transferring to/from D1 programs to/from the club team somewhat frequently.

hey winston, one thing i noticed is on your returns you tend to stand there for a second and don’t move up or back so you get jammed and have to jump on left leg with a lower chance of it going in. You could try to start back and move up during serve to have more momentum or you could try to backup and hit spin deep so you can recover to middle because he has a pretty big serve. Also try to be a little more controlling with your ball. although you don’t hit very hard you do hit a lot of spin and if you can hit deeper and more angle you would win a lot more points and feel more confident.

I played club at Michigan, and it was actually amazing how similar the level of the players was. There wasn't really a ladder at all - we had like 10 guys who probably would be in the 8-10 UTR range, mostly 1 and 2 star recruits (Desmond was a 3-star recruit, I see). I guess that's what happens when you get all the best players for whom it's not quite worth it to play college tennis. There was a bit more variation on the girl's team, all the way from one girl who was strong D1 level to a few who just weren't that good.

I give Desmond 9.5 UTR, probably 10 if he could fix his volley, too much undercut and air on the volley, but those are small pickings and he tried to get to the net which a lot of players don’t do. Winston picked up his game like crazy after falling 0-5!!! If he stated that hot, it would be much closer set Great content as always ❤❤

Winston, I have to give you the same feedback that I usually do. Your serves. You need to be hitting proper first serves. Not hitting second serves to start points. Quality opponents will attack those, and you're on the back foot. Your serve is something you should be trying to maximise, because it is the only shot in tennis that is 100% under your control, and if done well, can win the point outright, or it can set you up for a +1 winner. If you play against someone else who has a big first serve, then you are immediately putting yourself under a huge disadvantage right from the start, because they will usually hold serve, and then the pressure is really on you. They will go for their return, and you know this, meaning you feel even more pressure.

Winston doesn’t react the the incoming ball until it’s 5 feet in front of him😂. Correct reaction is the instant it’s hit by the opponent. Using all that time to rubberize your body into and through the shot. Takes more effort but that’s the next level in that regard.

In swingvision I'd say 60-70 mph. I hit 50s on good shots and on a easy winner 60s. Looks like the club guy averages 60-70 but swingvision only accounts for average speed of shot not the fastest point

Desmond's style appears smooth and methodical, until he abruptly changes the pace. In my opinion, he plays higher caliber ball than a 9.0 UTR. I would put him somewhere in the 9.5-9.75 range.
