I enjoyed your story about the neighbors! One time I answered the door wearing a respirator because I was making a lye solution. My poor neighbor didn't want to think badly of me but it looked pretty suspicious! I do have a question about vanillin from fragrance oils. I know it discolors but did you say that UV inhibitor prevents vanillin doscoloration?

😁🤣😅 Yeah, I bet they had all sorts of questions. But... no, unfortunately UV Inhibitor only really helps with fading from UV. Doesn't help with vanillin. At least in my experience. :/

Check out my video on vybar. Vybar is an alternative to stearic acid but used for same purposes. I don't currently use stearic acid myself

For your first candles I’d suggest a candle making kit. You get everything you need in the kit (correct size wicks, vessels, wax, fragrance oils, thermometer, stickums, labels etc) They’re also quite inexpensive for what you get. Once you’ve done those it gives you an idea as to what’s needed so you can expand from there. Good luck and have fun! 💕

Not exactly sure. It's a substance made to slow down colors from fading due to uv light exposure

I want to use tins for my candles. ( then Later down the road use glass jars) should I just start using uv to keep it consistent? And does color really fade in tins? I havent started yet I'm trying to get as much info as I can before i do. P.s thank you for making these amazing helpful videos

Hi! Thanks for the feedback. To answer your question, no you don't need to use uv in your tins especially if they are always lidded. But, if you plan to transition to glass later it wouldn't hurt to use it from the get go so your testing is easier later. You will need to retest anyway anytime you change jar type or size, fragrance, etc. But... at least you won't have to worry about how adding UV might affect it if you've always used it. But again, its completely optional. Most people who don't dye their candles or who only use tins or colored jars don't use uv. But as I mentioned in my video....I do for everything to be consistent with testing. :)

Could you mix the UV inhibiter/stabilizer into your fragrance oil to make sure its well incorporated? What is the benefit of vybar?

You can, but if add it to the wax first because you want the UV going in as hot as you can so it makes sense to add it to the wax first. Vybar can help with a few things (like all products there are pros and cons). Too much to explain here in this comment. I use ounces for my candles as I don’t understand how to use grams. I was told .025% per 16oz (16oz=465g=1lb) and I was told .025x465 however that = 11.62 oz per 16oz which seems like way to much can you please explain the math or show the math so I can understand better ❤

Nope. That's just a characteristic of soy. You would need to add another wax to combat that. (Paraffin helps the most. Sometimes beeswax or coconut too)

Technically, yes. But you risk a little loss of FO and other variations in process. I wouldn't feel comfortable selling them after being "reused" so to speak. But I do it for testing frequently. :)

If it says "UV Stabilizer" then yes. As long as it days UV as there are many stabilizer additives for candle making. :) good question!

I know I asked on a recent video of yours about uv inhibitor but I just had to to re-watch this video for reference. Ok, so I DO know that making products with fragrance oils that have vanillin in them will absolutely turn them yellow over time. My question is, will using vanillin FO’s with color/dye and NOT using uv inhibitor, change the color of the wax? (i.e. creating a product with a FO that has vanillin and using a blue color/dye. Will it eventually turn green? My thought process is this ~ since vanillin FO’s turn products yellow, mixed with blue color/dye, over time it’s bound to turn green) Do you have any experience with this happening? Is there anything to eliminate/negate the vanillin FO’s from turning a product yellow? It for real took me forever to try and word this comment ‘just right’. Still not sure I actually did? I hope you understand what I’m trying to ask 🙃

Hey Angel. Yes, the discoloration from vaniilin will affect the colors too. Sort of like acceleration in soap making. It can make your blues and red and whatever a little funky eventually. Lol. But as a reminder for others....UV inhibitor will not help with discoloration from vanillin, only from UV light.
