As someone who grew up in SF proper, my parents and I learned the drastic difference between the Folsom Street Fair (bondage/kink fair) and the Fillmore Street Jazz Festival one day when I was about 11. That was the same day that I saw a gimp on a chain leash and people dressed in head-to-toe latex whipping/flanging almost completely naked people, and that was just the first block/entrance.

I have to make some historical corrections here. Ninja were not trained assassins, they could be asked to carry out assassinations but it was not their main purpose. A ninja was a spy, their job was to infiltrate and collect intelligence. When it comes to kunoichi we don't have many sources on how they operated or what their numbers were in comparison to their male counterparts. Female Samurai in combat roles did exist but were extremely rare. I don't think Japan was the worst place to be a woman, but this is still the middle ages we're talking about and women were largely (and wrongly of course) viewed as inferior in those times.

19:10 Transonic speeds are mach 0.8-1.2 supersonic speeds are 1.21-5. transonic means "across the sound barrier". It's defined this way because at the speeds of mach .8-1.2 both subsonic and supersonic airflow are present around the object. This is significant because the airflow patterns created will lead to different effects on an object's aerodynamics than certainly subsonic or certainly supersonic or above airflow.

To be fair to Mystery Inc in regards to always assuming the villain is a real monster, there _are_ a few times (mostly in the movies) where the monster/aliens turned out to be real. If I were them, I'd be at least a bit scared every time I encounter a monster considering there's a possibility, albeit small, that it's actually real this time

So Nick mentioning bugs taking over the world one day made me think he might be interested (and I do mean might, I truly have no idea what he would like) in this one book called "The Little Mushroom: Judgement day" by Shisi. Fun apocalyptic read with pretty good world building that has to do with mutant bugs (thanks to radiation) that take over the earth.

For Danny - I do NOT recommend Ichi the Witch. The 2nd chapter already raises some red flags; the MC is forced to make the "choice" of 1: being enslaved and help with colonizing the indigenous species of the world (actual quote from the chapter), OR 2: become a testing subject for the rest of his life. Once I read that, I dropped it hard

1:36:40 it was bigger in the west mostly for infamous reasons outside of fans, but in japan it was pretty close in popularity. Naruto have always had more marketing push than Bleach due to its "childish" nature which made it far more "marketable" while Bleach was more on the adult side of stuff. If Bleach had the same amount of marketing push as Naruto back in those days (studio pierrot had to juggle between them) it would have been bigger and probably would have sold more than Naruto. Bleach had a 10 year anime hiatus gap in the most important time when people got in to anime if that happened to Naruto it would not have the same relevance as it has today. Bleach is bigger than Naruto in terms of influences when it comes to manga (just look at jjk, black clover, demon slayer), there are a lot of shows taking inspiration from some of its concepts and even storytelling, etc. I would say Bleach got far more mistreated than Naruto which I agree didn't get treated well, but Naruto didn't suffer from insane level of censorship as Bleach got due to the content in the manga and then have its canon stuff completely messed up with filler to the point of having several scenes misrepresenting what the author was telling or straight up changed up.. Naruto had some of the best animators at the time working on its adaption since it was going to be the next big project for studio pierrot after Yu Yu hakusho ended, so it was first out reaping the benefits of outside factors to then elevating the franchise.

Best part about norse shields was that they were made of softer wood so that weapons like swords & axes would get stuck. One twist of the shield users wrist & the enemy either loses their weapon or holds on & gets moved to make an opening for being struck. 👌

8:20 Dual wielding swords is harder for beginners and therefore worse for them however someone trained in the Niten ichi-ryū school of kenjutsu were some of the most formidable fighters in ancient Japan. Just take Miyamoto Musashi as an example. Never lost a duel, one of the most feared swordsmen in Japan. Could take on multiple adversaries at once due to his duel sword style. However he did duel wield with a daishō which is different to just duel wielding normal swords. A samurai’s daishō consisted of a katana and a smaller, lighter sword called a wakizashi or a tantō. This smaller sword was easier to wield with your weaker hand minimising the strain on the disciples of the school of two heavens as one. To dual wield two swords of similar lengths for example two European short swords is less effective due to the weight of them. Basically the effectiveness dual wielding swords all depends on the swords you have and your own training.
