Great job, but I believe cutting the metal tubes would be an easier and less chance of a leak and also less chance of damaging the new core,,,and I wouldn't have any thoughts of the tubes leaking with the rubber hose connections as well

This works. The air bag needs to come out, so the battery needs to be disconnected. I also drained the coolant before dealing with the heater core pipes. Also before reassembling, run the vehicle, bleed the cooling system, and run it with the rad cap on to build cooling system pressure to confirm no leaks at the heater core

Well done. One more question...do I need to drain coolant before replacing heater core?
@jfGarage4k Жыл бұрын
No.. just remove the heater core make sure to catch all the coolant coming out from the core
@redeye9042 Жыл бұрын
Wow nice job! I have a 2014 journey it's leaking coolant driver side and passenger carpet . When you seat the lines into the new core do they kinda lock into a slot ? Or can line pop back out as you tap around the connection . thanks for the video going to try!

The aluminum lines just pop right in to the new core, No locking or clips super easy

Awesome video and idea! I would add pulling the heater hoses in the engine compartment and use an air hose to blow out the core before changing. This will eliminate fluid inside the cab when changing the core.

Good call on Applying air on the hose before changing the core, make sure the air line pressure low not to high

NOPE @@redeye9042
@hubstuckey994211 ай бұрын
It could very well fix it by blowing out all the gunk. You can attach a 5/8" hose like a piece of a garden hose and either bow my mouth or if you use a compressor, set it at 20 psi max so you don't damage the core. The insides are VERY soft. Do it from under the hood. Take off the in and out hoses from the flywall, place the blowing hose on the intake and blow the thing clean. I've used CLR or Vinegar if I didn't have an actual additive on hand. Let it sit for maybe 30 minutes and blow it clean. Reattach hoses, start the car and top off your reservoir if you lose any coolant. It'll be minimal if you do. .@@redeye9042
@firstchoice933511 ай бұрын
why are you altering the crimp connections ? you could join the pipes with 5/8 heater hose and clamps lot less likely to leak . the repair ya did here looks mangled hack job
@jfGarage4k11 ай бұрын
Lol.. what are you talking about, its clean job
@lidiatorrespradoАй бұрын
Why don't just cut the pipes and add rubber hose with clamps to reinstall the core, in my opinion that would be easier and safer to avoid leaking.

How did you get the plastic vent out of the way?
@jfGarage4kАй бұрын
Hold by couple plastic tabs. Need to squeeze them in and pull the plastic vent out
@samh43002 жыл бұрын
Wrong way . Don't do it because it will leak a lot the easy way is to cut the pipes and connect them with Hoses.
@jfGarage4k2 жыл бұрын
I believe this idea i got on this video is one of the clean fix and its the best guide. Its been 2 months here in Canada Nort Pole weather. BEEN no leaks, no problem and everything holding up good, improvement hold good heat in the cab
@LinkSquish2 жыл бұрын
I think mine might need replacing, when I do it, I'm going to do it like he did in the video. I'm not cutting anything. I've replaced ac lines that was something like this. If you cut and put a hose on with clamps there is a chance they might blow off. I'm not saying 100% it will because there have been times that I had no choice to cut and use hoses. But if you can avoid it, don't. He is not damaging the area where the O rings seat so it's not going to leak.
@davidstreling3690 Жыл бұрын
your cooling lines in the eng compartment are connected with rubber hoses and also clamps same concept , bending ther aluminon lines at the connection can weaken the metal there as well,,aluminon doesn't have great metal strength and retention just be careful if you decided to go this route@@LinkSquish

Would have been so much easier if Chrysler had designed this to have a threaded/union style fitting...Would make this such an easy job if they had. Or at the very least a clamped hose fitting in-line.
@chrisathanassiadis131711 ай бұрын
They don't want it to be easy for us. I have paid over $1500 and have no heat and A/C for 3 years now in the Canada weather...

This van a 2010 but its equivalent to many year 2008 to 2020 Dodge Journey
@terrianaurmomjaymescarekaz93432 жыл бұрын
To think that Dodge engineers would have put in a Union connection right at that point to remove the heater core. Oh well the difference between so called smarter engineers and plumbers. A steam fitter or plumber would have done it that way. Engineers not so much and the auto industry is lousy plumbers. Just need a hydraulic crimper.
@jroosenmaallen2523Ай бұрын
The Dodge engineers require you to remove a front tire in order to change the battery on journey, I don't think they were too concerned about good design😂

I’m sorry, but this video sucks. The heater core comes pre assembled with the pipes already crimped to proper setting. So if you don’t crimp it back on properly it will either pop off right away or later on. Making it more costly for you.
