@MohawkMotors
@MohawkMotors 2 ай бұрын
OK so it sounds like you used the entire intake manifold, wire harness, and computer that is original to the truck, so it shouldn't be a vat's issue or a software compatibility issue. If it shuts off when you go to accelerate, does it shut off hard like someone turned the key off, or is it a slower shut down like it's not getting enough fuel? There's enough difference in displacement that you're going to have to get it tuned to run correctly. If it will idle until it reaches operating temperature without turning on the check engine light or anything then it's probably fine as far as wiring and sensors.

@@breakinggames6356 could absolutely do it, especially if you're not on a tight budget. In my area, LQ9 are substantially more expensive than an LQ4 for not that much performance gain. Are you sure there were no 6.0L 4L80E 1500 Silverados in 2005? Or were they just 4WD?
@MohawkMotors
@MohawkMotors 9 ай бұрын
I don't know of any regular 1500 silverado's that got a 6.0 in 2005. BUT gm did build 1500 seirra's in 2005 that IF you upgraded to the Denali trim, came from the factory with a 6.0 in them. Could also get a 6.0 in the Silverado SS which was technically a 1500 platform. I believe in 2007 gm started offering the Vortec MAX option that got you a 6.0 in a 1500 series pickup also.

Did you check the signal wire to the pcm at the pcm connector? Could have something going on in that wire causing an out of expected range signal to the pcm. If you can, back probe that pin at the PCM with a large needle or T pin and then see what you get for voltage with the key on but engine off. Should be able to look up the signal voltage for atmospheric pressure and compare that to what you're getting.

i been doing some research and i was wondering if i could hypothetically take the 6.0 vortec with the Hydra-Matic 4L65-E transmission from my 03 escalade into a 99-03 gmc sierra
@MohawkMotors
@MohawkMotors 7 ай бұрын
Yes you could. It will bolt in without too much issue, but if you try to put it into a 99 to 02 gmc sierra, you'll have some electronic troubles to figure out. In 2003 GM implemented the canbus communication system in the trucks and suv's that allowed all the different modules to communicate with each other with more detail, it makes it challenging to get an 03 or newer pcm to be happy and get along with the 99 to 02 vehicles.

@MohawkMotors
@MohawkMotors 7 ай бұрын
The least difficult swap would be to put your 03 escalade engine and transmission into, would be an 03 to 05 sierra. The gmt 800 platform which includes 99 to 07 classic GM pickups and 99 to 06 fullsize GM suv's, are all electronically very similar from 99 to 02, 03 to 05, and 06/07 classic. There are a few late production 2005's that have a ground battery control module which can be a pain to delete or add but other 03 to 05 trucks and fullsize suvs you can swap the drivetrains around however you like.

I have a 2001 single cab Silverado 4.3 & want do a 6.0 swap my questions are what year should I get the engine off of , I would like to do headers as well along with the swap will I have a service engine light due to the headers , will I have to mess with the fuel pump , I’ve heard people mention to be careful on which motor mounts we get so am I free to get any ls swap motor mounts or is there a special kind for the 6.0, will I have to mess with my break booster my truck is a v6 but came with disk breaks all around , will the v6 plumbing work on a 6.0, these are my questions thank you for the guidance with the KZbin videos & thank you in advance
@MohawkMotors
@MohawkMotors 7 ай бұрын
Going to try to answer your questions in order, The easiest 6.0 to swap in will be one from a 1999 to 2002 silverado or sierra pickup, if you can, be sure to get the engine complete with harness, accessories, and pcm. Don't cut anything, unplug all the wire connections and disconnect all the hoses. Headers aren't a problem as long as you get headers with bungs for the upstream oxygen sensors, the pcm need the information from those sensors for the engine to run correctly. The 4.3 V6 1500's and the V8 1500's use the same fuel pump, you don't need to do anything, just use the factory pump and sending unit. You can use factory motor mounts. Just get a set of motor mounts for a 2001 silverado that originally had a 5.3 engine, and the motor mount frame brackets for your year and drivetrain truck with a V8. If your truck is 2wd, you'll need the driver and passenger side frame brackets for a 2001 silverado 1500 2wd with a 4.8 or 5.3 engine. Don't need to do anything to the brake booster, all it needs is engine vacuum hooked up, it doesn't care what size engine the truck has. Same with the brakes, no modifications needed. I did another v6 to v8 conversion last year and went into a bit more detail, here's the link to that playlist kzbin.info/aero/PLW-JXcGYHUpTEVb4mJFNglNM2aCFmKptZ

Q: Why did you need to do a segment swap? You kept the rear O2 sensors, I assume. Is the rear end different?
@MohawkMotors
@MohawkMotors 9 ай бұрын
Segment swap was necessary for the PCM to be able to control the transmission. 4L80 has different operating parameters than the 4L60. Segment swap for the engine as just the easiest way to get the correct tuning for the 6.0 engine. Can neither confirm or deny that the rear O2 sensors are are functional. Rear end is the original to the truck, didn't make any changes to it.

It would take a lot of electronic conversion. The 2010 silverado uses a much more elaborate electronic communication system than the early 2000's 5.3. It would be less expensive and easier, to just get a 5.3 from the same generation of truck.

There's a few things to consider but if I were going to do it, I would start with a v6 truck with a manual and swap it to a V8. Around me it's a lot easier to find V8's to swap into a truck than it is to find all the manual parts, pedal assembly, transmission, driveshaft, etc. As far as the actual work, it would probably be a little bit less work to convert to manual, but not much.

Yet another great video. Always great to watch your videos sir. What version of HP tuners are you using. I e been looking for a MPVI 1 with no success. Do you use the new #2 version ? Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks.

Thank you so much Jesse! I'm using an MPVI2, I've seen people looking for MPVI1 on forums and facebook because they will do some stuff that the MPVI2 won't and they're a bit cheaper, but it seem like they are pretty hard to come by. I like the MPVI2. So far it's done everything I have needed or wanted it to do. I'm not a very good tuner yet but am working on that part and the basics like deleting vats, adjusting speedo calibration, emissions stuff, etc is all pretty straight forward and easy. If you're going to have use for it on a regular basis it's definitely worth the investment in my opinion.

what was the total cost to the customer on this project, Im considering doing this on my truck which is identical.

I don't think it's appropriate for me to share his total cost publicly. But In one of the comments above I outlined the materials costs. Labor is going to vary depending on where you are and what the local market is.

would you mind letting us know like how much is the budget to pull this off?
@MohawkMotors
@MohawkMotors 2 жыл бұрын
I don't feel comfortable telling you how much Alan paid me, but, the donor truck was about $1600, and between the motor mounts, headers, and other odds and ends, I would say total parts cost including the donor truck was about $2500

To do it at home by yourself, you could probably do it for under $2000, including the cost of a donor vehicle

How hard do you think it would be to do a single cab 4.3L 4x4 and keep it 4x4 but have the 5.3 or 6.0 swap?
@MohawkMotors
@MohawkMotors 2 жыл бұрын
To just swap it from 4.3 to 5.3 or 6.0 and keep the 4x4 would be pretty easy. The motor mounts are designed so the back of the engine is in the same place, so your transmission and transfer case would stay in the same place. You would just need the engine, wire harness, and computer from the same model year truck for a v8 application. Then just the different motor mounts to get the engine in.

Thanks for all the info…. I’m planning on do almost the same swap, but I have a question do you think it will be easier or harder to do it on my 04 manual transmission truck
@MohawkMotors
@MohawkMotors 2 жыл бұрын
I don't think it would make that much difference doing this swap on a manual transmission truck. If you're keeping the manual you'll just need to get the right flywheel and clutch. If you're going to an automatic you'll just have to decide what you want to do for a shifter.

How much would you charge to do this for someone else?
@MohawkMotors
@MohawkMotors Жыл бұрын
To do the swap just like this, everything working and looking like it came from the factory that way I would start at $7,500 for the labor, maybe more depending on the condition of the truck. If it looks like there's going to be a lot of broken bolts or wiring that has been screwed around with it will be more. Then obviously the customer would have to pay for the engine and transmisson and any other parts needed as well.

@@justinmetheringham7380 idk what estimate program you are using to pull taht time. “All-Data” is the best (for reference) program across the board for finding national standard time to do a labor duty on vehicle mechanically. Usually it’s 10-18 hours to R/R most engines in “most” on the road used vehicles you see on the road everyday. This dude just made what some “techs” do with one job that they do in a month ….. or two… and that’s if they R/R’ed 2 engines a week for one month to two months. Lolol!!!!!
