"rocks don't reflect light" the fact that you can see the rock means it's reflecting light, objects that do not reflect or produce light are not visible. I think the main problem in the comments here is that people equate the word invisible with something that allows light to pass through it almost perfectly, like air, but invisible actually just means something you cannot see or perceive, if rocks absorbed all light that touched them they would be imperceptible, impossible to see directly and only “visible” as a completely black hole defined by its surroundings
@feuerling6 ай бұрын
Example: vantablack, a carbon nanotube pigment that absorbs more than 99% of the visible light that hits it. It just looks like a hole in reality.
@SparklRebel6 ай бұрын
What about black holes which absorb light?
@pillgod50436 ай бұрын
@@SparklRebelyou can't see them actually. You can see their event horizon, which is the furthest in that light can escape from the gravity of a black hole.
@Kennedy00Louis6 ай бұрын
@@SparklRebel Well, yeah, we cannot see black holes too. The orange circle around black holes are accretion discs, its basically stuff that is being eaten by the black hole, forming a ring around it that spins super fast, causing that stuff to get hot and glow brightly. But the black hole itself? We can't see it, it's pure black, anything beyond the event horizon has no light coming back to our eyes. A black hole, by default, with nothing being attracted, will have no accretion disc and is absolute darkness. TL;DR: Can't see black holes, and big text cuz I like talking about black holes.

“Deer shed their antlers once a year” There’s literally people who have their jobs to find antlers that literally fell off on their own. It’s crazy people think we just rip them off the heads of animals lol.
@katie77486 ай бұрын
Except some people do... You're not wrong, but I knew a guy who did that. If he got (hunted) a smaller buck, he'd take just the antlers instead of mounting the whole head.
@theenderdestruction23625 ай бұрын
@@katie7748sometimes it's just not worth cutting off a head, having to go to a taxidermy person, have to pay said person to stuff said head, and then find the right mantle (idk if they sell those with the head they might idk) and then finding a place to put and then have to deal with it rotting God only knows how longer later, sometimes its just easier to kill the deer and then cut off the antlers and then use those
@thegreninjagal68085 ай бұрын
@@katie7748did he use the rest of the deer for meat or smth? Or did he just take off the antlers and leave the deer corpse rotting there? I personally don’t hunt, but as long as you use as much of the animal as possible I am fine with hunting wild animals and even butcheries. It’s better to not waste what you don’t need than to waste something that someone else could need. Edit: The grammar may be a bit fucked here, but I meant that I’m fine with butcheries humanely killing animals, not people hunting butcheries down.
@456puff5 ай бұрын
@@thegreninjagal6808 I used to spend a lot of time in the woods and unfortunately I did see people doing that. Just taking the antlers and leaving the deer to rot. But I agree with you about hunting. While I don't personally like it, if you're actually eating the stuff and not wasting it, that's fine. My sister knew these girls in college who grew up in a very rural part of a very rural state and their family literally hunted for all their food. Like, they didn't go to grocery stores or anything. Pretty crazy and a bit sad (since it was apparently at least partially due to poverty), but also amazing to me how resourceful people can be when they need to. Sorry, I got off on a bit of a tangent. My fave? The sky formation that (with sufficient imagination) appeared spooky. The posters challenge : "Can anyone explain this?" Pretty sure he was looking for a far more complex explanation instead of the PERFECTLY economical reply he got :"Cloud" LMFAO!
@ActuallyNTiX6 ай бұрын
I mean, I find the note funny, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't being asked to find out if it was a cloud or not, but rather why a cloud was looking like that in the first place. I suppose it's not impossible but I'm pretty sure OP was asking what led to the cloud looking like that, if it was anything out of the ordinary or just an extreme coincidence or something.
@timsullivan45666 ай бұрын
@@ActuallyNTiX I wasn't suggesting that - I think the guy was in effect saying, "This is SO unbelievably awesome and spook,y that I defy ANY of you so-called scientific types to explain THIS one away!"... There are plenty of folks who so desperately want to believe in spooky, unexplained phenomena , but are continuously frustrated by (and often not satisfied with) the rational explanations offered by debunkers. So that minimal reply to the challenge ineffectively dismisses the challenge, saying, "Sure, not a problem. Clouds." Implicit (for thinking folks) is :"Duh - clouds are kinda famous for forming shapes that the human brain is wired to try to relate to a known form." But of course that detailed explanation should be totally unnecessary for adults, so "Clouds" was all the explanation he deserved.

"Cannons are lethal" may have been the most boring possible response they could have given there. I'd have much rather heard them rip apart the argument. X3 "As a matter of fact, a large iron ball flying into you faster than the speed of sound would definitely be lethal. If it's true that cannons killed only 1% of their enemies in warfrare, this is because they were not even aimed at troops in the first place, but rather at walls and armored objects that infantry weapons couldn't hope to put a dent in."

People think because dogs need some plants in their diet, means any carnivore can be vegan. To be labeled a “carnivore” less than 30% of the species diet is plants. Dogs are near the 30%, which is why they need some plants in their diet. Cats however are “obligate carnivores,” meaning even less of their diet is plants compared to dogs.

@@PaulZeroSoliswhile cats can have plants in their diet, they can't digest grain very well. They also need a high taurine diet, since they've naturally lost their ability to produce it on their own. Since taurine is only found in animals and, weirdly, red algae (which... good luck getting a cat to eat enough red algae to substitute their taurine needs, lol) cats need to eat other animals to survive. Also, before someone suggests it, no. Red algae isn't really a suitable substitute here. While it isn't always the case, red algae can produce brevetoxin, which as the name implies, isn't safe to consume. Also, algae smells absolutely awful. You'd end up with cat food that smells twice as bad, is incredibly expensive, and might end up killing or harming your cat. Not worth it.

6:33 can I just say that cannons are VERY lethal, a tanks main gun is a cannon and a battleship’s main guns are also cannons, guns are indeed deadly but cannons have killed more than millions of people and if we talk about how you need to hit a person with a direct shot, NO, HAVE YOU HEARD OF HIGH EXPLOSIVES?! Cannons are just as effective as guns are!
@stinbray11206 ай бұрын
cannons are more effective than guns because i haven't seen any guns pierce 16 inches of battleship armour also one thing these people who are anti gun don't think about is hey the government is corrupt and stuff, soo what happens when the government is the only one with guns
@tobyeasterbrook81176 ай бұрын
I think calling tank main guns and modern battleship guns “cannons” is underselling them a bit. Cannons as the two users are talking about were much smaller and had much less power and range, and generally didn’t fire explosive rounds. That being said, they still absolutely fucked up the shit if any infantry with a sergeant dumb enough to match them into cannon range. They would use classic metal balls for bigger targets like cover or ships. Obviously if one of those hit an infantryman the infantryman would suddenly be replaced by a fine red powder. The problem is they were hard to aim at such a small target. Against people, they’d use grape shot, which works exactly like how shotguns in most video games work except the shrapnel was bigger and went further and had more power. Grape shot going into infantry was apparently horrifying to watch.

Not only are cats carnivores they are a special class of carnivores called obligate carnivores meaning they don't just eat only/mostly meat they HAVE TO EAT MEAT AND ALMOST ENTIRELYONLY MEAT. Other carnivores as long as they get a certain amount of meat in their diet they can eat other things as well. But not cats and other obligate carnivores. They have to eat exclusively or almost exclusively meat only.

And to clarify, the reason cats are true obligate carnivores is because they need taurine to survive and have naturally (this happened pre-domestication, no humans involved before someone tries the "wool sheep" argument) lost their ability to produce enough of it on their own to survive without an external source. The only plant that produces taurine is red algae, which has other issues, and cats won't willingly just.... eat red algae because it's red algae.

5:24 saw this somewhere else, but if snow is piling on an animal like this instead of melting, that's a good thing because it means no heat is escaping the fur (which would melt the snow) and the animal is insulated
@minigunner12185 ай бұрын
Not just that, but ice and snow are extremely good at insulating. It takes an insane amount of thermal energy loss for the temperature of ice to drop below its freezing point, so anything that's surrounded by a sufficient amount of it can stay at or above freezing despite the outside temperature.
