Love the fieldpiece but as a chiller mechanic with refrigerant monitoring in most rooms I work in, I NEED to be able to vent all gases out of the room into an exhaust and unfortunately the fieldpiece is not gas tight at the oil fill port and leaks fumes which almost set off the refrigerant alarm (which would have shut down the whole chiller plant at a pharma site.... VERY BAD.) Fantastic pump otherwise, love the oil change on the fly feature. Hope they revise this issue. My JB and YJ pumps are tight so long as you hook a garden hose to the exhaust port.

I have the fieldpiece vacuum and I really like it. I used a yellow jacket 6 cfm for 25 years but never pulled a vacuum as fast as I have with the fieldpiece. I bought the vacuum rated hoses and core removal tool. 300 microns on a 2.5t system in about 4 minutes including the blue vac decay test. Love your shop set up. Never worked for anyone that provided me with gauges. Good vid.

Nice comparison video. I personally went with the vp85 recently. It's worked very well. Im a fan of fieldpieces product support the few times I've needed them.

Thanks for doing this Ted. I've been a bit starry eyed over the new Fieldpiece VP85. I think I'll go ahead and hang onto the ole JB a while longer.

How good is the YJ Bullet working put for you? I'm thinking about purchasing one. Thanks

Good quality test of vacuum pumps. I used JB pumps most of my career.

JB platinum is old reliable. Still have the eliminator from 15 years ago and my platinum from 12 years ago. Both work perfectly

VR 85 how well did it held up months after this video??? Do u recommend it? So far I leaning toward purchasing one for my self Found one vid who had some problems after 3 use
@erics92136 жыл бұрын
Nice demo. All of the pumps seem to be able to pull a final vacuum under 100. The YJ is a little cheaper than the other two.

Suprised you have all that equipment and still pull through a manifold

Good job Ted. Noticed the hilmor gauges hanging there, I had a set of those a few years back and the supply house gave me a credit towards another brand due to a recall of the hilmor....might be worth asking about if those are bad. I loved the concept/design....just had issues with built in vac gauge.

That bullet seems to be coming apart, I had only used jb’s I didn’t know how noisy other brands did. I like my jb’s compact and durable I have one that has lasted me 18 years

VP85 and VP87 with the Trublu hoses will walk all over those other pumps. It would have been below 500 microns in 3 minutes time single or double hose. one 1/2" hose and 3/8's work fast. Let the ballast stay open until it hits 2000 and then it will fly down to below 500. Pulling through the manifold is far too slow. I use the SM380V and use a CPS or Fieldpiece gauge on the liquid line with a 90 degree elbow to read micron level and run a decay test. The small hose and pulling through the manifold is what slowed the vacuum speed.
@murkyturkey5238 Жыл бұрын
I don’t understand why people still use their manifold to pull vacuums 😂
@Balticblue93 Жыл бұрын
@@murkyturkey5238 I totally agree and I try and talk other technicians out of running the vacuum through the 4-port. Some listen after they see how fast I can do it, even with a single hose. But they are paid hourly. I look at the faster I can move the more work I can get done.

The video is somewhat of a way to compare pumps, but I don't think its a good representation. Most pumps I see, you tell the difference when you get below 1000 or 500 microns and the strength of vacuum pulled really starts to show; but hey, we all have our opinions ;)

So many choices out there nowadays when it comes to vacuum pumps; does anyone know of a pump that has a built-in solenoid valve that opens and closes as the pump is turned on/off...? I'm tired of sucking vac oil into my big Appion hose.
@Tokaisho16 жыл бұрын
That would be nice but I've always just manually cut off the pump with a valve
@throttlebottle59066 жыл бұрын
I did that once, but didn't notice and stop it at the hose, went right through the gauges and into the vehicles system (R134A) and they're picky about oil charge volume :( bad move, kicked self in arse then proceeded to tear it down and remove all the oil, it only cost me $200 more and half a day fiddling

Ford! Chevy! Brand X is junk! Your doing it WRONG!!!!! Personal experiences can vary. Just because someone does things a little different does not mean they are wrong. His setup is perfect for the purpose and I'm sure he is very competent with his equipment. Chill out.

Comparing pumps might as well do it right & forget those charging hoses. Yet seeing this tends to give others the reason to do it this way yet why people might misunderstand the way to evacuate. But I do see what your doing though.
