Vacuum Chamber Build

This is a couple of vacuum chambers I built fro old water pressure tanks. They have quite a few uses and are not that hard to build. I wanted them large enough to hold a 5 gallon bucket.

For vacuum sealing Mylar bags. I use the "snorkel vac" sealer that has a retractable tung & a built in bag heat sealer. You put the bag on the sealer which activates the vacuum pump and you press down on the heat sealer which causes the tung for vacuum to retract and the heat sealer seals the bag. For the 5 gallon pail size mylar I use a clam heat sealer to close off the pack except for small section (like in your video) I stick the vaccum tubing into the opening and use some clamps to seal around the tubing, and the pull the a vacuum on the bag. when its done, I fold the mylar, remove the tubing and clamps, and use the clam heat sealer to close off the bag. This is a lot quicker especially with a smaller vac. pump, since you don't have to pull all of the air out of a large vac. chamber. I also have a nitrogen purge using a nitrogen tank from a welding gas supply shop. This is just a brass tee with a ball valve connected to the nitrogen supply (with a pressure regulator). I let the vac. pump pull the air out of the bag, & then open the nitrogen valve which re-inflates the mylar bag, then close the nitrogen valve so the vac. pump pulls out the excess nitrogen. You can still use the Oxygen absorbers with this method, but for the large bags and small O2 absorbers it provides an added level of O2 removal as well as any moisture in the air since the nitrogen has no moisture.

I like the nitrogen idea. I have welding bottles for my welder I may have to look into that. I like playing around with the vacuum chamber and wanted a large one that would hold a 5 gallon bucket. Some things can over flow and I wanted to have a way to keep the vacuum chamber clean.
