Ah, Abhorash, the biggest vampire Chad ever. Most people don't realise that Abhorash didn't want the blood curse, he had to be forced into drinking the elixir, and even then he did his best to not drink any blood whatsoever until he snapped and killed twelve of his friends, at which point he broke down and set a nightly ritual where he lights a candle for every soul he unwillingly killed to remind himself of his curse. He survived until the End times and rode with Bretonnia to fight Chaos with no confirmation of his death. What a legend.

I really, really like how Warhammer does Vampires. Its like, my favorite way in fiction. Like, dont get me wrong, Vampire the Masquerade and Elder Scrolls do it pretty good too, but I love the idea of vampires having their own country, ruling it with an army of spooky skeletons and zombies instead if them exclusively being a clandestine organization who just intagrates with human society.

depends on what you mean by TES vampires, in the lore, they're fine, in Morrowind they're underbaked but have some potential, but in Oblivion and Skyrim they're just kinda poorly crowbarred in (a bit better done in skyrim, but even still it's not particularly well fleshed out story wise)

Vampires are pretty high up in the society in the country of Geb in Pathfinder. They're still one rank below the lich though. And what do they do with that immortality? Farming. Because when you don't need to eat human food you can export agriculture products at ridiculously low prices to the neighboring countries.

Ah Strigoi, if you want a taste of how terrifying it can be to fight a Strigoi vampire check out the end of the first Ulrika book which has her, the other Lahmians and a witch hunter struggling to fight off a rampaging Strigoi in a mansion. Its great stuff. Also while not meta in anyway, a Strigoi Vampire Lord on a terrorghiest mount in Warhammer 3 is an absolute bruiser and the mount has enough mass to knock almost an entire unit off walls during sieges which is hilarious.

The Strigoi were absolute units, for sure. In some of the older lore, they only turned ugly after the fall of Strygos, when they were forced to subsist off of corpse blood- and yaknow, the insanity and depression probably didn't help- before that they were just as pretty as the Lahmians, and already the most physically powerful of the Bloodlines.

The 6th edition Vampire Counts codex was the first big step I took into anything Warhammer. I didn't have the patience required to learn how to paint minis, but the lore hooked me and I've remained to this day. Thank you, vampires (not you, Mannfred).

Fun fact; vampires were actually a relatively late addition to Warhammer, not appearing in the tabletop until 3rd edition. And it wasn't until 5th edition, when the "Warhammer Armies: Undead" army was replaced with "Warhammer Armies: Vampire Counts" that they became the undisputed leaders of Warhammer's undead legions - for the first two editions of the game, your mandatory general was either a Liche or a Necromancer, and even in 3e and 4e the Vampire Lord was sharing the leadership role with the Liche and Necromancer. As somebody who prefers dark wizards to blood-sucking undead, I kind of miss those days, even if I'll freely admit that Warhammer Fantasy does have cool lore for its vampires.

Necromancers and liches should be always at odds with vampires, fantasy should have kept them as different factions. Even from a lore standpoint vampires belittle necromancers and use different creatures. Maybe in another reality where GW didn't screw it over the setting we could have had an undead only necromancer faction.

tl;dr difference between Nagash Super Juice and Vampire Super Juice:- N - Made from the blood of tortured things - higher races work best, but anything with a soul works. Magic to bind soul to blood + several hours of torture to 'enrich the blood/ amplify the soul' = drain blood/ kill at point of maximum pain for premo magic juice. (maybe other steps. Nagash secretive sneaky boi). V - Do most of the above to have a grade B version of crimson-god-water. Add a dash of venom of a Nehekharan spirit guardian/ demon (Sphynx). Consume while dying/dead, during ritual to resurrect/ bind/ return the soul to the body. (If descended from Neferata, you are also influenced by centuries of blood sacrifice/ fertility goddess magic enriching your blood. Consequences are unclear but certain). Nagash's Liches are people who've mutated their souls/ bodies over repeated consumption of other's life essences. This invigorates them, however, it repels and destroys their own souls' native connection to the wind of Life. The imbibing of elixir created through dark/ death magic + the prolonging of one's own span beyond the point of death transforms your soul and body from having a 'Neutral' spiritual resonance to one anathema to the natural order of life. Vampires are similar, however, the effect the Sphynx venom had on the formula seems to have flipped what was in Liches an Alchemical/Material means by which to affect the Etheral, from in Vampires, a Soul/ Spirit Curse affecting the material. One way to think about Nagash's Liches and Vampirism is that they are the highest form of Zombie. Zombies are 'souls' badly tied into poorly preserved bodies against the will of the host. Vampires and Liches are not fundamentally different, their bond to their bodies is just *better* and they have more intricate and stronger magics empowering them.

I think they’re my favorite death faction behind Nighthaunt. I like Flesheater Courts but IF I was going to collect and/or play them I think I’d prefer the fantasy of the conniving vampires that still have their faculties intact. And I’ve heard some people say they would be better if it was more of an army of vampires, but I prefer the idea that vampires are really strong so you just have a few of them with a horde of zombies as fodder.

I like to think that the Cathay vampires are led by none other than one of the Lost Dragon siblings who took the elixir for a selfish attempt at power. A secret the Dragon Emperor is *desperate and hellbent* on keeping unknown to the world. This undead, half skeleton dragon with bat wings for arms and fangs longer than any dragon or man. Now I imagine Gotrek and Felix killing it while in flight only for it to land on the Royal palace as the Emperor is give a speech reassuring everyone that nothing is going on. All while Felix is terrified for his life and Gotrek doesn’t get why half the population hates them and the other half is now openly rebelling.

Fun fact. With all the Lore changes, there either were anything from 6 to 12 trueborn vampires at least, and We dont even know how of them actually survived the fall of Lahmia. 2 are said to have died either fight Nehekarans or by Nagash after they tried to betray him, but others are unknow. Depending on the source one went into Chaos Wastes, other sailed west to become a pirate, another went east, different guy just went into isolation from everyone, and there might be nothing special about their bloodlines at all. Just like a Von Carstein can put on an armour or lace corset and nobody will tell the difference between them and Lahmian or Blood Dragon, these guys, at least for now, can come from one of the unknown trueborn and nobody will even notice, hell, they themselves may not even know it, as Ulrika showed us, just because you were turned by a von Carstein doesn’t mean you cant join Lahmians. And her parentage is weird anyway, since Adolphus Krieger was a von Carstein, but Countess Gabriella von Nachthafen who sired him was either a Lahmian pretending to be a Von Carstein or a von Carstein who joined Lahmians.

Correction on wyatt8315: the best way to judge a fantasy setting is by how vampire side-effects are explained canonically. For instance in twilight it is due to vampire's perfect skin that it develops a crystalline structure that shimmers like diamond in sunlight (and sunlight only for some reason) Now a good series would rather say "Nagash: 'im mad buthurt.'
