I've only seen one, maybe two van lifers talk about insurance but yours really blew me away because who knew it depends upon the van's age as well as conversion!?! I was curious about your rustic build and going to search your earlier videos so seeing this was great and I expect it'll get a lot of views as people are curious how to start and all that that entails. Good informative video but, wait - car build? Oh, and you have a Lovely voice. I like how you know when to talk and when not to.

Hiya Friends, It's so beautiful to get caught up and to see your van build. A lot of love went into the entire process and in two weeks.👏🏽 Very impressive!! Kurt and I purchased a cargo van (blank canvas) 2020 Ram ProMaster two years ago with intentions to build it out. We've only managed to do a partial build, we just haven't had the time to do more. We still had some amazing adventures camping in AZ, CO and CA. It's currently listed for sale. Safe travel!🙏🏽 Love, Peace and Blessing! Bebe❤✌🏽🕉

We wish more vanlifers were transparent about the options and costs of insurance. It’s something that we didn’t think about at first because we didn’t realize it would be difficult depending on the type of van you have. Searching for Insurance should be the first step before buying the van. That would have been ours haha!

Yes, insurance is a very important point. My van is similar to theirs and I was able to get it through my insurance company but just the basics so I was legal and as an add on to my car insurance. I only do weekend travels so that works for me. Thank you for covering this point.

Interesting State Farm told me and I’ve been with them for years. If I converted the van did anything permanent to it they would not cover me however if I could take everything out then they would so I had to convert my van with everything removable. That was interesting.
@Beanbugging8 ай бұрын
I think it depends on the state. That’s what we realized when looking around. Not all State Farm’s are made equal. There’s a couple in New Mexico that got more coverage than us for a way cheaper price with State Farm. Jealous lol

I just now saw ur video, an was excited to see y’all used, not sure what it’s called, bubble/bubble foil insulation, I have seen this one youtuber put this under his house (craw space) showed how well it insulated during winter, the ground was frozen at outside entrance of crawl space, but not inside, also another put on ceiling of horse riding arena and swore it was cooler inside. Since then, I made up my mind to put it n the van I get. Can u give me the link to this video on regular speed so I can see better on how y’all applied it to the ceiling/walls, and hear what type of glue was used! I’d greatly appreciate u for it!!! Thank u
@Beanbugging9 күн бұрын
Hello! We’re glad you liked our video! The reflective insulation works quite well and has been working well for us along with Rockwool (safe and sound) insulation batt. We put that into the body of the van and then put the reflective on top then we installed our wood frame. We used 3M super 77 multipurpose spray adhesive. You can use the super 90 as well if you’d like some more security with the adhesive. We just sprayed the surface and simply place the insulation and it has held up since. We then covered any cracks or gaps with aluminum tape from harbor freight since it’s cheaper. The video can be played at different speeds under the settings button. Hope this helps! Good luck with your build!

We are soooo jealous of your extended Ford Econoline... Great build. The window view is amazing. Love the log cabin feel in your van. We converted our standard size 2003 ford Econoline conversion van. The biggest difference, we have a full bathroom in ours. I didn't see if you guys included that anywhere? But, we are hitting the road, again, in Dec 2024. Hope to run into you guys on the road. Considering we spent under 10k on our van and build and we are saving $$$$ a month, class B insurance is not needed. Don't let them make you think you need extra insurance. You are covered under standard insurance. Unless if you want to cover the build too, which they will only give you $100 per proof of each $1000 you spent to convert the van.
@Beanbugging3 ай бұрын
Thanks so much for all this info! We had no clue about that with the insurance. We don’t have a bathroom in our Van. It isn’t necessity for us and we are fine with using public restrooms. I have heard you can change your registration to an RV tag if you have certain things in your van. ie, toilet, sink, vent fan...i believe you need 5 off their list to get approved. Once you do, again this is only what i heard I haven't researched it myself yet which i should, its approximately $50.00 ish per year full coverage!!! Now i cant say for sure but definitely worth looking into. I currently have State Farm as well, love them, but what i pay per month is about what an RV tag would be for a year!!! Regular insurance doesn't cover items in the van whereas the RV insurance would. (This is only what I heard, not positive!!)
@Beanbugging10 ай бұрын
You are correct, we heard about this as well and wish State Farm wasn’t so expensive per month 😅 I think if we ever get another Van, we’ll take insurance into consideration earlier on now that we understand what kind of vans are acceptable vs which ones aren’t.

What size boards and screws did you guys use to frame out the ceiling of your van before insulation and mounting the wood paneling planks up there? I'm scared to drill things to the fiberglass rooftop. Thanks.
@Beanbugging3 күн бұрын
We used 1x2 furring strips for the frame. There are parts of the rooftop fiberglass that protrude into the Van that we screwed them into. So that way it doesn’t screw through to the outside of the roof :)

Someone please answer.!! How size nails/screws do you use to screw your frame to the van?? Do you get holes on the outside of the van ?? If so what do you do to fix it????
@Beanbugging13 күн бұрын
Hello! Thank you for your question. We used 1in metal screws to screw the wood frame into the body of the Van. We made sure that the screws were long enough to go through but not through the outside of the Van. There are metal parts of the Van that do not show/extend to the outside of the vehicle. Look for those parts to build the frame around. That way when you attach the wood paneling it screws into the frame and not into the sides of the Van. Hope this helps! Feel free to ask more questions 😊

@Beanbugging6 күн бұрын
@@AprilOuellette-bs5zi Hello! Thank you for your question. We built this out a couple of years ago, so we can’t remember the exact amount of time. However, we started working on the Van sometime around April 1st and finished May 4th of 2023, working from 7 AM to as late as 11PM. We didn’t have much time due to our apartment lease ending. So finishing was very important for us to have somewhere to live 😊

Did u add how much you pay a month for insurance? I didnt see that. How many miles did ur car have when u bought it? Im a single mom wanting to buy an old van, but my parents are stopping me from doing it.
@Beanbugging19 күн бұрын
@@susierocks4643 it depends on the van, the age, what state you’re from, and how many miles are on it. So our van is a 1999 Ford Econoline at almost 200K miles. So our insurance to cover the whole van is over $300 a month. However, if you have a newer van with less miles, it’s likely you can get something cheaper. But there aren’t many insurance companies that cover the full build of a DIY van. The only ones we know are the ones listed in the video. So a lot of people just get regular auto insurance to cover the vehicle and not the build. Unless you can afford to pay for both 😊
