Back in the day we played this album so often at FULL volume on a monster stereo system that I eventually got tossed out by my landlord...and I gave zero fuchs.

This is my favorite song from them...fucking love this song. From the beat to the guitar riff, and vocals and lyrics. I don't know what it is about this but I love it!

Yes, the first several albums were all bomb. For me personally, I love Van Hagar, so I would even say more than the first several albums. This is just a band that doesn't miss. To understand the beef about Hagar, you have to understand what DLR added to the band not only in sound but, really in persona. As a frontman, he was simply a force to be reckoned with. I think people tied the entire band's image in with his overwhelming stage presence, but VH were first and foremost and great band making solid music.

The Mighty Van Halen! The first VH tune I learned to play on guitar....Loved Bizmatik-O's rxn! Alex Van Halen is a monster drummer and sometimes neglected because King Edward was such a phenom! When it comes to hard rock, VH is right there among the top of the heap. When Sammy was introduced to replace DLR, Van Halen fans were nervous to say the least until we heard "Best of Both Worlds," from 5150, and all was right with the world! DLR was the crowd master, but Sammy's vocals were insanely good. Both incarnations rocked!

I'm a Roth/Van Halen purist. There is no other Van Halen to me. The rest is Van Hagar (or the short-lived, one-and-done Gary Cherone "era") to me. The biggest difference between Roth and Hagar is the lyrics. Dave didn't write any sappy love songs with VH (Sam did). Roth is a lyrical genius, man... just like Bon Scott and Ronnie Van Zant. You can replace a singer, but you can't replace the mind, soul, and sense of humor of a lyrical genius. Biz, I think if you dive deep into the VH catalog, you'll notice the difference. My opinions are mine. In other words, if someone wants to argue about how wrong I am, I would remind them that these are MY opinions and theirs really don't matter much to me.

As a teenager in the late 70's who was into Rock, Blues and even Metal (Shout out to Black Sabbath the Godfathers of Heavy Metal, and yes the invented it) the first Van Halen album rocked my world. I'd never heard anything like it, and it made me pick up a guitar which I still play to this day. With that said, Van Halen II just killed it as well. It's the best follow-up Rock album of all time and is arguably as good as or better than Van Halen I and cemented Van Halen as Rock gods. RIP Eddie, we miss your voice.

Van Halen is one of the most commercially successful bands of all time... w/ David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar. From the late 70's to the mid 90's, Van Halen was a massive arena juggernaut... 2 records selling 10 million copies each ('Van Halen' debut album and 6th album '1984') w/ Roth... 4 albums at #1 on the US charts w/ Hagar selling 15+ million copies combined in the USA. U can easily put Van Halen up there in the 80's top rock and pop bands like - U2, The Police, Guns N' Roses, Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, Metallica, Motley Crue, AC/DC, Aerosmith, Duran Duran, Dire Straits, Journey, Queen, Wham! , Foreigner, Whitesnake, etc.

Top notch. Great thing about the band was they could all sing and it gave that full sound. Eddie’s brother Alex was on drums and it gave the extra tight feel between the two brothers.

Eddie was really bothered by overdubbing solos back then, so he tracked the solo live and went back later to overdub the rhythm guitar under the solo. He did that for the first two or three albums.

The group is legendary. DLR is more of the young energy and party whereas Sammy was more mature about things but still about having fun. I like both eras of the band, but I get someone when they say DLR was their frontman/image of Van Halen. The only subpar vocalist was Gary Sherrone (sp?) for VH III. IMO, that was their total garbage album. I personally like more full albums of theirs with Sammy, but I, II, and 1984 from DLR do kill.
