THIS is my fave Van song. "When the foghorn blows I want to hear it, I don't have to fear it." To me it's about love, coming home, life, death. So many great songs to choose from. Keep digging. Greatest love song writer ever. Fullforce Gale, Days Like This, Moondance, I Shall Sing, The Healing Has Begun, Someone Like You, I Forgot That Love Existed off the top of my head.

This is Van Morrison's brand, Celtic Soul. He speaks to my heart because he's in that spiritual zone, he's moved and he moves others through his singing and writing. This is more than just a pleasant listen or a romantic song, it's deeper than that.

Right before i turned 18 my best friend got sick really sick and she died shortly after. She wanted this song playing at her funeral and told me when i see a butterfly it's her. Her name was Heather. Now im 47 and each time i hear this song i think of us in my bedroom belting this out when we were younger... Laughing at us never thinking we were going to die or get old... This song played at her memorial service and i still say hi Heather to all butterflies...

Van grew up in Northern Ireland, a poor country at that time with conflict all around. It is known he used to hurry home in his youth and listen to the radio, specifically to his hero, Ray Charles. He dreamed of being a crooner, writing great songs and interpreting music that moved his soul. He did not fail. He is very, very successful and became that crooner like Ray.

one interpretation of this song is that his soulmate had passed and he was waiting until the foghorn blowed (his death) to be re-united with her. I only found this out when my wife of 42 yrs passed and I heard it and it crushed me. so powerful to hear it in that respect. when that foghorn blows I want to hear it, I don't have to fear it.🤚

When I first heard him years ago, I was an instant fan. But I didn't REALLY get him until I read an interview with the late, great Phil Lynott from Thin Lizzy (who was a devout Van Morrison fan) describes what's it's like to hear Van sing as "Van uses his voice like a saxophone." I tested this theory out and he was on the money! I though especially when he pushes his voice and gets that rasp and when his voice does a trail off, hitting soft descending notes. Van IS the man. P.S. R.I.P. Phil Lynott The years have not diminished our sorrow and joy of rememberence since you've been gone.........

My favorite Van Morrison song. I recently saw the movie "Belfast" and most of the soundtrack is Van Morrison. Chod has never reacted to Them the band Van Morrison was in his early years. Now both of you can discover them together. Some of Them songs are "Here Comes the Night" and "Gloria" which you might have heard in the movie The Outsiders and the song was also covered by The Doors, but that version is more X-rated.

Thanks so much - this has been one of my faves from Van - then many years ago I was first mate on a little ship named Mystic, so now this whole song makes my head swirl with those memories. HIs first solo album, Astral Weeks, has such a soulful, mystical sound. Some critics said that with this album, Van went into the mystic a year before he recorded the actual song Into the Mystic. The whole album was recorded in two days with Van in a both by himself doing the vocals. The session musicians, who had been recording advertising jingles before the gig, would put music to the words later, without much if any input from Van. It is one of the greatest albums of all time. If you guys like Van Morrison, you need to listen to the whole album in one sitting, just for your own enjoyment, even if you don't react to any song on the album on your channel. You will be better off having heard it.

This is my favorite Van album too. The improvised jazz playing and dream-like vibe sets it apart from all his following work and though critically acclaimed it's not for everybody. Chad did a reaction to the title track some months ago & good for him because hardly anybody on YT has.

This is just a flawless song, I never get tired of hearing it. VM has so many songs that it's hard for any fan to just recommend one. For you guys I think "Cleaning Windows" would be a great one. It's not really typical. It's super upbeat and catchy, but with a message. I'll just add two more songs other commenters suggested - "Jackie Wilson Said" and "Bright Side of the Road." Van has his brooding side and his happy side - these are all really happy songs. (I like the brooding ones too, like "Let The Slave" where he recites an entire William Blake poem!)
