Like Rob I'm on my own with a dog travelling Europe and have no choice but to leave the dog in the car while supermarket shopping, a good tip is to do the shopping first thing in the morning when you can find some shade, even if it's around the back of the shop, I put the air con on full tilt on the way and have extra fans running while it's parked, it's still like a bank raid when I'm in there but the car always stays cool

I noticed that you have 2 Maxxfans on your van. Your great videos helped me decide which equipment to have on my van: unfortunately I’m not a skilled DIY like you: all your work (and planning) is exemplary. So I do have a Maxxfan, Michelin Agilis Cross climate tyres, 2 14KG LPG tanks and 2 130W solar panels with a 240A lithium battery (for the weight) as I have a Ducato 180HP with the 9Sp automatic gearbox and full VB-Airsuspension (on all 4 wheels), so I have to count the KGs to stay below 3.5t. Is there a specific torque setting for them as when i did mine I overtightened a couple and they just started spinning 🤔 Glad you guys are back on the road and showing people that you can still travel despite Covid and Brexit 🚐💨❤️👍🏽
@GregVirgoe3 жыл бұрын
It would depend on what thickness of metal you were fixing into. Fir this application it just want to be touching the plastic but not so much as to deform it. If the plastic change starts to bend it’s too tight. To strip the threads they would have been far too tight. If the plastic bends over time that could crack and let water in.
@inorr3 жыл бұрын
Hi... When you put the fan in to the frame,,,that you have sealed very well,,i see a large gap between the frame and the fan,,,should`nt that gap be sealed too? it is going to be lots of water going down that gap when you are driving or in windy rainy condition,,,i guess,,,,,or up here in northern sweden,,snow will go there and melt,,,where does the water go then? Just a thought. Thank you for many good videos 😃

I installed my fan yesterday on a sprinter. 2 questions for you. 1. When I put the fan in I checked the wires went through however I didn't check the wires at the back of fan. The glue had removed so they were not stuck into pace and I have dented them by pushing the fan as I couldn't get it to fit. They were obstructing. Will the wires be OK? 2. When I pushed the fan down to screw the fan in place. I looked underneath and have missed the hole on 2 screws and pushed the metal clip out. Rather than through. What should I do next?
@GregVirgoe3 жыл бұрын
I would remove the four holding down screws and take the fan back out to check and reroute the cables. Also put back the metal tags and have another go at fitting the 4 screws again. Hope that helps.

Is this a stupid question ? How do you use your fan ? Do you find air is best being drawn in or being sucked out ? At night we leave ours on level 1 extract and it removes all breath humidity. Just interested to know how you and others use them ? And yes.. I did fit ours after watching your initial Maxxfan installation. Very happy with it !
@GregVirgoe3 жыл бұрын
Different ways for each application. When cooking lots of extract. If it’s hot one on supply over the bed and the other near the cab on extract as that’s the hotter end. At night when cold we just leave them open but off. If hot at night we have it on 10% supply to give us cool fresh air. For pets I recommend it on supply to give them fresh air. Lastly if you have just one fan you need another opening either vent or window to allow the make up air in or out for better circulation.
@justwannasay54543 жыл бұрын
What a good friend to do this. Did you test the fan before installing it? I had a Maxx air fan installed on my 24' foot Hi-Lo travel trailer. I like it. Was going to have one installed on my cargo van but I decided to wait so I have a spare fan.
@GregVirgoe3 жыл бұрын

Sorry if I’ve missed something, Greg. On this installation it doesn’t appear to have a frame on the inside of the van to screw in to. Is that not necessary with this particular model? Thanks again for a mega helpful video.
@GregVirgoe2 жыл бұрын
A timber frame is a better way to go as it does add a lot of rigidity back into that thin metal hole in the roof. However in this case it would have meant ripping out some of the interior to fit that. So Rob was ok to fix it without. There maybe a little more flex this way but the mastic sealing strip stays flexible and will ensure this never leaks. Hope that helps you 😊

The standard seal for these fans does not go all the way round. This gives some permanent ventilation but can be noisy when driving. It’s possible to replace it with a seal that does go all the way round. I bought the version of this with the white lid but it lets in quite a lot of light at night. I took the lid off and stuck closed cell foam to the inside for a better blackout and more insulation.

Much better mate. What size is the fascia on the inside? I just need to measure to see if I can have another one at the front.

I’ve found the roof vents are highly overrated. Giant 14 inch hole in the roof that lets a lot of sound through and is not insulated. I ended up making a cushion stuffed with havelock wool insulation that fills up the vent most of the time. The only time i use the roof vent is when the weather is absolutely perfect, 99% of the time its not.

You will get a lot of problems with moisture and mould in your van if you don’t have good ventilation. We leave both outs open in all weathers even if really cold. We use the heating to keep the van warm.

@@GregVirgoe i agree need some method of ventillation. But both my air conditioner and heater have vent only modes, so I rarely need the roof vent

@@soandsononame8750 both the AC and heater normally only recirculate the air within the habitation area when in vent mode. That is how all Truma and Propex units work. They rarely bring in external air because they adds a huge load on to the system. Your vents on the van of the van would be a better source of external air if that’s all you got.
