Have you been to Bundi far south Rajasthan l think you would like the old palace there. I went to Gujarat and met Aaliya the Dinosaur princess who is the custodian of an ancient dinosaur hatchery. Do check weather before going to Varanasi in November. Due to heavy rainy season some ghats get submerge in water. Best time to visit these places when there is no rainy season.

Planned visit around 7 Nov .... it's dev depawali all ghat s illuminate with lacks of soil made lamps.. It's only celebrate in varanasi in whole india..also October to February temperature vary from 5 to 30 degree celsius.. Come visit my city and my beautiful country...

Manikarnika Ghat is costliest place in India for cremation... There's one eternal flame which Hindus believe light up by Lord Shiva and everybody uses flame from that one to perform last rites. One family and their ancestors guards that flame and gets Money for each cremation... They also get considered as second King of Varanasi state , First one Royal family which has fort on opposite side of Ganga and second one Family who gurads that Eternal Flame "Dom Raja"

Foreigners are most definitely allowed inside Kashi Vishwanath corridor. Somebody scammed you about Manikarnika ghats as well because Indian youtubers record it all the time. Don't listen to anyone not in a uniform, camera is allowed upto a point inside the corridor.

in the time of Shiva there was an animal specie called ganas who were fond of him and always with him. while Parvati was in the bathroom Ganesha repeatedly prevented Shiva from entry. Shiva angrily took off Ganesha's head which made Parvati crying and angry. she wanted her son's life back. then ganas offered their life for the cause. Shiva with great pain in his mind took off head of a gana and installed it on Ganesha's body using tantric power. because of ganas head he was known as Ganesha. later the species of gana got extinct. later people look for the specie, found elephant and thought this might be the animal which is gana. so they drew Ganesha with head of elephant. this is the actual story but most people don't know.

Varanasi is the oldest surviving city in the world. And the is the city that celebrates death. It was build by Lord Shiva and it is believed he still visits the city during specific times of the year

Just a few years back IIT Kharagpur discovered coins from the banks of Ganga in Varanasi that were as old as 8000 years. majorly bodies of children and sadhus are not burnt because it is believed for kids their aatma don't yet have developed a attachement towards the body, same reason for sadhu they live a life of detachment from materialism and thus believed that their atma is also not attached to their physical body. probably the same reason for pregnant women they carry another atma in their womb. so the main symbolism of burning is related to detachment from this physical reality of yours for you and your family as well it resonates with the principal of Hinduism that we are not our body and its temporary so if we burry the family have a place to go and feel attached to the deseased but burning essentially removes any attachment whatsoever of your physical being.

In uttarakhand, in continuation we would hope you visit kedarnath as well as badrinath. In case looking for adventure, Kailash mansarovar would make me wait for your videos. Nearby varanasi, there is ramnagar fort where erstwhile king of benares lived. About 80-150km or so there are small waterfalls as great Indian northern plains rise to Kaimur range (an extension of cultrally and mineral rich vindhya range) there are coal mines and heavy industries. There are forts at chunar, naugarh and Vijay garh nearby. Chunar sandstone is used for construction for a very long time. On the other side jaunpur also has a fort but it is built like Shiraz in iran during jaunpur sultanate period. Of course every place has some story or the other. There is a shiv temple at the confluence of ganga and gomti river at a place called kaithi just outside of varanasi.

They are not “burned” but instead cremated. The idea is to place the ashes in the Ganga so that the soul can stop the cycle of reincarnation. Many people (including myself) bring the cremated ashes of their spouse to be placed in the Ganges. What’s crazy is that I am Roman Catholic, but my body will be placed in the Ganga. There are pending discussions with religious leaders as to if I should be cremated or not. It’s obviously a much deeper story than I can type but all I know if that is where my remains will be.

India has a very different idea of death than in the West where everything is behind closed doors, blacked out windows and boxes! I don't know which system is better? The idea of walking along the street anywhere in the West and seeing bodies being burned is so alien and stomach churning to us! I saw the same thing from a distance at a temple in Kathmandu and I couldn't sleep for days!!!

In hinduism death is just soul changing clothes (body is cloth here). it repeats infinitely. you can be born as any life form from Amoeba to a tree. and main goal is to just stop this cycle and attain liberation (moksha). Hence there is no concept of Heaven and Hell. and hence no reason to grieve. reincarnation depends upon your deeds(karma). Here liberation also means that you get out of the Illusion of existence. the soul just then merge with super soul (brahman) . All the gods you see in hinduism or for that matter anything you see in this universe is the manifestation of that single Brahman. if you have to imagine Brahman imagine it as an ocean and souls as the drop of water . it's properties changes depending upon the environment you keep it . Brahman also manifests as gods and these gods further can manifest but in order to interact with the universe they need to get an Avatar. They do it to just keep checks and balances. concept of Good and Evil is not stretched much. because these are subjective. Lion eating a deer is good for lion but evil for the deer. But god do take part when there is an imbalance.

Cricket is just like baseball. Bowler throws the ball, batsman hits the ball, fielder stops the ball or catches the ball and the umpire is the judge. If ball crosses boundary it is 4 runs, if ball crosses boundary through air it is 6 runs. Batsman can run 1 run or 2 runs or 3 runs etc by running from one end to other end.

Speaking of train tickets, what's the easiest way book them on-line now? Cleartrip used to be the way to go (for a small fee), but I heard that's no longer possible. And while the IRCTC website was always an option, too, it was much more difficult for foreigners. But that was awhile ago, and maybe the new IRCTC website booking is the way to go?

As far as I know you need an Indian phone number to book train tickets online. I just go to a tourist office and they've always been able to get me a ticket leaving within a day or two. They only charge an extra 30-50 rupees usually.
