I would start with Eternal Sunshine, his most commercially successful film. Won an Oscar for it, and the screenplay is consistently voted one of the best of all time. Then Adaptation. Then Malkovich. The rest are mostly excellent, but polarising.

movies are failing due to 1) over reliance on CGI 2) pandering to EVERY minor demographic 3) no new ideas just steal from the producer's child hood. 4) lacking storyline (see 1 3 and 2 ) 5) over saturation with peacock. hulo, netflix,amazon, disney+...... ad nosium. SURE blame the writers.

Isn’t this interview an (albeit small) act of defending the human experience? Maybe what you said was intended to be a joke, but I think that there are many precious things that must be protected by other precious things. Oftentimes that protective instinct is called “empathy”, which I’ve been told is good to have.
@etagged
@etagged Жыл бұрын
@@bennyjones1502 Without resorting to an abstraction about "precious things", the human experience is quite a robust phenomenon, not a waif. What we're really being asked to defend here is the ability of a minority of adult humans to make their desired living from writing about the human experience. This is in the context of the internet and highly efficient, low cost channels capable of distributing and democratizing media. Also, note that for much of the history of the internet many individuals were happy to share their content merely to express themselves and weren't using it as a stepping stone to make a 6 figure salary. I merely object to the sleight of hand of equating writing scripts for Hollywood and other large production conglomerates to the "universal human experience". Ask for people to increase your wealth because you deserve it, not by unfairly guilt tripping them.

@@Lalo-dh8xqIt was a joke. I hated the film. Of course he should get paid. I also don't expect others to have the same opinion as me, but I am allowed to voice my my own. The bigger issue is what SORA and other text-to-video technology will be able to do. What we've seen now is just the tip of the iceberg and has huge implications for Hollywood.
