I fix my banshee swapped grom after blowing up my transmission. I try a top speed run and attempt some wheelies. Will it reach 100mph?

As an original 1977 Yamaha RD -400 2 stroke Twin owner myself ( I bought it new off Don Vesco Yamaha’s Showroom floor Here in my hometown of El Cajon Ca. In 1978 , my Graduation present to myself) and having now owned it for almost 45 years I can attest to the adrenaline rush every time it “ Comes on the pipe “ and tries to wheelie out from under you. Your little beast is probably around 50 pounds or more lighter than my old air cooled bike ( I believe mine weighs in around 340 lbs or so ) and looks to be easily able to top out around 115-120 mph or so like mine does once topped out in 6th gear. Wheeeeeee!!! You are a Madman like me & at my age now (62-1/2😉) I’ve got no reason to slow down now . Enjoyed watching this build and glad you got it all repaired and back together again . Keep it “ Rubber side down “ . One more thing; “ Mexico “ sure looks a lot greener than I remember.😏😆👍😎. C-ya man . Stay cool now , ya hear ?? 👌

Usually the beveled gears transfer power better because more then one tooth is in contact at a time, but the trade off is it will increase loading in the axial direction and need a thrust bearing

You may want to chop the frame behind the head tube and add more rake to the front end to get it more stable at speed. Maybe just a degree or two. Should make it much less twitchy. Don't want to go too much or you'd lose some cornerability.

I'm usually one who doesn't like different manufacturers engines inside other manufacturers vehicles.....but when it's a Banshee's 350 twin 2-stroke in a Grom.... I absolutely approve 🤣👌 Edit: steering stabilizer and start it and allow it to come up to a respectable temperature first instead of worrying about trying to get it up to temp while moving, it'll definitely help.... might also look into a smaller radiator as well as a different oil viscosity.

Change the rake In head sock by a few degrees will lessen the wobble a bit . You know when you got the pipes right as the front wheel won’t stay on the ground . Pee around with the pipes and when you got it right it’ll be a whole new monster . Read up on tuning from Stan stevens ,one of the worlds best tuners of them motors . He builds 130bhp 525cc engines from a banshee motor . Just don’t fit that motor or you’ll need wheelie bars at 130mph

I'm so pleased for you dude. That thing is a little gem. Yes it needs a few kinks ironed but look how far its come in such a short time. Brilliant bike. If that radiator is still working it means you can also go a lot smaller so you might be able to get one to fit inbetween two strip lights - like the 2019 grom lights but spaced apart with the rad inbetween them. Stingers like an RGV250 and its going to look the nuts. I wouldn't go mad on tuning. Its fast already and ask any 2T owner - reliability is already borderline on a stock motor.

I felt your adrenaline rush when you hit 99 and bars started getting shaky a steering stabilizer and gusseting or reinforcement would help fight against speed wobbles a steering stabilizer #1 would improve everything. Gusseting/reinforcement will help keep frame flex to a minimum which is what causes speed wobbles I can't see the added weight hurting much either would probably plant the bike better also. She's nasty man great job and the pipes seem to still have a pretty mean powerband routed and fitted clean too I understand how hard it is to fit them where you're comfortable without changing the characteristics and dimensions of the pipes 2 stroke motorized bicycles have the same challenges in that aspect alot of respect for your work brother you're killing it

She looks way more comfortable and better with the pro taper bars and The headers turned out dope!! I think it would look sick with some braided/colored radiator hoses and you should most definitely keep the banshee motor!! Add a stabilizer and figure out a way to make A one piece silencer using a set oh shorty's, even if it's only two avoid friction from the police!! All in all she turned out sick and has plenty potential as far as power, control/ St ability and aesthetics goes! That's the sickest grom I've seen, keep up the good work kid and keep bringing us gnarly content. SN: a smaller radiator would help with getting it up to temperature. I know that all sounds good but in all actuality expenses are a factor lol comes with the territory.. All that being said, execute that check list with some original ideas of your own and you'll be dominating the grom scene in every aspect of the game.

The only thing you do by changing the dimensions of the exhaust is change where the powerband kicks in. Because the big belly on the exhaust is the resonance chamber. It uses the back pressure of the exhaust to scavenge out the burnt air fuel mixture. And it does it in pulses based on whether the valve is open or not. The powerband on a 2-stroke engine is the point where the exhaust flow has reached an optimal flow for revving faster. If you didn't know it already, it's worth a watch on how a 2-stroke engine functions to understand how changing the exhaust changes performance

Try tapered roller bearings in the steering stem instead of damper. Also, use a plate of glass to get fork tubes in same plane, and make sure they're parallel, too. Funky suspension geometry can support weird oscillations that turn into tank slappers.

@BlakeEM 2 жыл бұрын
That thing is quick! I don't think it needs more power unless you plan on taking it to the track... Speed wobbles/tank slappers at speed like that are a suspension/geometry issue. It's likely the spring rate or rebound setting of the front forks (It doesn't look like the frame has excessive flex). Put some zip ties on the forks to see what your travel looks like (are you bottoming out?) and set suspension sag to something reasonable. If it's far off get new springs/fork internals so you can adjust things. It looks like those front forks are already near the end of their travel.
