Oh! These are great batteries! Can you see if yours has the same balance lead wire strain that mine had, it's shown at 13:00 in my video. I'm curious if that's a problem with all of them or just something on mine.
@LithiumSolar4 күн бұрын
14:55 It's not a board, it's actually enclosing the aluminum busbars. It's like a mat they made that you just lay over the battery pack and weld in place. It's a VERY COOL design!!

How are their server rack batteries and will the work with Eg4 older server rack batteries? Communicate

@@LithiumSolar yeah it’s very cool! I saw your tear down and it made me wanna take a look and see, so I’ll let you know what I find out.

@@LithiumSolar yeah the more I looked at it the more I realized that it had to be more than just a PCB. It’s definitely a cool design, and I hope it’s something that other designers pick up.

@@sh839c that might be something that I look at. As far as I know (with my limited experience regarding server rack batteries), it seems like batteries can’t communicate with other manufacturer batteries. At least manufacturers, they use a custom protocol seem to require that protocol when communicating “battery to battery”. They might allow different protocols to be used “battery to inverter”.

The mass of the cells in the battery will be keeping the sensor itself a bit warmer so it probably is accurate. There's 50-ish kg of materials there, knock off 6 for the box itself and that leaves about 45kg worth of cells.
@AdamDeLayDIY4 күн бұрын
@@retrozmachine1189 even though the temp sensors are above the cells? How long would you think it would take to equalize the temp with the ambient temp? When I bring the battery indoors, the temp changes pretty quickly. I tried the same test last night and left the battery outside for 15 hours (after not using it at all yesterday) and it was still a lot higher than ambient temps.
@retrozmachine11894 күн бұрын
@@AdamDeLayDIY If the sensors aren't in contact with the cells they should be pretty close to the ambient air temp (metal case should be leaking heat like a sieve) so, yes, that'd be inaccurate sensor readings. I thought the sensors were in contact with at least one cell directly which is what is often seen.
@AdamDeLayDIY4 күн бұрын
@ some of the sensors might be in contact with the cells. There’s at least 2 that I couldn’t find. The ones on top of the cells seem like they would be more affected by ambient temps. The display said the coldest temp sensor was still well above freezing. I’ve ordered a Ruuvi to put inside so I can see what the temp is during another test.

As usual, a complete and great review! Any reason you can't add to a set of EG4 LIFEPOWER batteries? Probably their 100ah server rack model... BTW. Happy Thanksgiving!
@AdamDeLayDIY4 күн бұрын
@@bobcole3852 thanks Bob! Happy Thanksgiving to you as well! From the limited experience that I’ve had with server rack batteries, they don’t seem to like communicating with batteries from other manufacturers (at least when a custom protocol is involved). You can still use them all day long in an open loop configuration. I might see if I can get my hands on one of their server rack, batteries at some point and see if I can get them to communicate with other batteries. Unfortunately, I don’t have any EG4 batteries to actually test against.

Communication was my concern too, wanted your input on that. I'm purdy happy with EG4
@AdamDeLayDIY4 күн бұрын
@ yeah since you have EG4 already, it just makes sense to stick with them for communication.

Do you know how to wake up this battery? I left mine on and it wont charge, screen shows voltage is zero, theres a couple of zz icons I assume means its in sleepvmode
@AdamDeLayDIY2 күн бұрын
@@davido6915 I’m not sure of an official way to wake it up. Sounds like the BMS actually shut down. Almost seems like you would have to open the top and put a small 48v charger directly on the battery terminals. This is not something I would do lightly as you would need to bypass the BMS. I would recommend reaching out to Vatrer first and see what they suggest.
