Vault 3 | Fallout Lore

Vault 3 a control vault, so no callous or cruel experiment for the residents to endure, instead the survivors who escaped The Great War got to live their new lives below ground as if nothing had changed. And for many years, their children went to school, they celebrated birthdays, and replaced the workforce to continue the cycle. But one day a maintenance worker discovered a small leak, a minor inconvenience that changed everything. That leak, as insignificant as it was, was something they couldn’t fix because they didn’t have the required parts. So, as a result Vincent Vanmiller, The Chief of Maintenance, told The Overseer, Lincoln Davies, that while he was able to vent the pipes in that section to isolate the leak and stop the pressure from stressing the rest of the system, all he had done was buy them more time, as without the parts The Vault would eventually run out of water. Overseer Davies, now working on borrowed time, ordered for the water to be rationed until the leak could be repaired, which he assured the other dwellers would happen. But in order for it to happen they needed to open their vault door and go outside...

Ironically the fiends in the vault aren't much different from the original dwellers. They let you walk right in, all the way down to their leader, at which point you can blast him at point blank with a shotgun and shoot your way out through every one of the scumbags.

Dude, as a Dungeon Master can I just say you are the ABSOLUTE BEST. My players asked for a Fallout Campaign with the capability to span across the entire US Wasteland, and without you giving me all this lore, I wouldn't have been able to figure out 80% of making a nationwide Fallout TTRPG campaign.

She called the police about a disturbance near her house, she walked out to his car in her pyjamas, not armed. And he shot her. He's also now in jail where he belongs. This vault and the lore makes me so sad, it's one of the more depressing parts of lore of the Fallout series, reading the terminals and reading about their inhabitants and their day to day activities. Even the NCR with experience in fighting raiders and a professional army are not able to take the vault.

Having a society that doesn't have firearms for 200 years will definitely make it so they don't understand the 2nd Amendment which isn't there fault or there ancestors fault the world was doomed anyways they just happened to have survived in a non messed up control vault that had no reason to have anymore firearms then absolutely necessary which likely wouldn't have proper maintenance over 200 years as everyone decided to not harm each other so they had no need for the firearms as they wasn't supposed to open yet 200 years and a water leak is what did them in not the lack of guns.

I'm certain plenty of the people survived, fled, and integrated into New Vegas and the surrounding areas. The fiends are sloppy chem addicts that lack any real plan. I remember I found some vault 3 jumpsuits in Mickey and Ralphs room above their gun shop. It honestly explains a lot about their affinity for firearms. After vault 3 was lost they became obsessed with protection.

If only that water leak never happened they’d still be alive, so I taught the fiends a lesson that vault 3 wasn’t their home and they weren’t allowed to stay they deserve to live in the wasteland because I know that they suffered a lot in the wasteland robbing settlements and caravans resorted to murder but they should have known better not to be come post apocalyptic bandits, and it’s like I once said people like the fiends deserve to die and people like vault 3 deserve survival including factions that are trying to rebuild and make the wasteland a safer place such as the desert rangers, the followers and the minutemen.

The need to make new generations inside vaults would eventually, very quickly actually, 100% of the time create inbreeding and quickly turn into a very serious problem. I find it fascinating that this is never spoken about in Fallout lore.
