Just had my clutch cable snap in the middle of an intersection. Pushed the car to the closest parking lot and I'm getting a ride to go get a new cable. This showed me exactly what to do, thanks :D

I also had the experience of my Mk1's clutch cable snapped. Usually this doesn’t happen in your driveway but rather in a busy intersection during peak hour traffic. To prevent the rubber cushion and retaining clip falling to the ground, I looped cable ties on either side of the clutch cable around the bracket to prevent this. Obviously, this doesn’t prevent the cable from breaking, but at least you’re saving a bit of money to not go purchase missing parts. Keep up the good work!

This has just happened on mine! The plastic bit has snapped so it flew off the clutch pedal. Spent ages working out what happened. Annoying as the cable itself is fine. Thanks for sharing! I’m going to try and replace it this week now I know what to do. Thumbs up!!

Hi gary :-) Thanks for your video. it has helped me so much. I would like to bring my vw citi golf to you for repairs. I just recently bought a 1993 VW Citi golf MK1 1300 exactly like the one in the video. Do you have a workshop? and if so, where is it located more or less so that I may bring it to you. Thank you once again!!

I need help desperately, my 2001 Mk1 1.6 carb clutch cable snapped at PnP so I took a taxi and got a new cable and quickly put it in. But now the pedal is so loose, and I have to push in the clutch ALL the way to change gear or clutch balance. What could be the cause of this? Is it because I bought a long cable?? Or can I adjust it somewhat? And also one more question: the clutch lever on the engine side - MUST it sit flush and not be lifted up at all when the clutch is released? In other words Must that clutch lever be all the way down? Or can it be elevated a bit if clutch pedal is NOT being pressed in?
@vehiclemaintenanceandrepai37903 жыл бұрын
Hi Zjuchi, it does seem the cable you bought might be too long, when adjusted correctly the clutch pedal should be level with the brake pedal and have a slight play on it before the cable is activated.

The grommet that goes through the firewall doesn't want to "plug in" and the cable currently hangs in that area, what do I do? I can push and twist it but I think it will cut the grommet.
@vehiclemaintenanceandrepai3790 Жыл бұрын
Try using some silicone to keep the gromet in place.

Help needed am driving a golf 3 94 model 1800 Carb at times when shifting e.g gear 2 its jerks alittle then drives it happens from time to time thank you in advance
@vehiclemaintenanceandrepai37904 жыл бұрын
Hi Nathaniel thanks for supporting the channel, your problem could be very many possibilities, it could be spark plugs, plug wires, distributor cap, rotor, distributor, timing or even the carb itself could be dirty or the throttle diaphragm could be worn, so you have to start somewhere and implement a process of elimination, cheapest to the more expensive. Good Luck, Gary

Hi there, help needed please. I drive a 2007 Vw Velociti 1.4i and the vehicle has a hard start, it takes about 3-4 seconds before it could start but starts immediately afterwards. Leave the vehicle for about 15-20 Min then it's back to the hard start. I've changed the Temperature sensor on top of the radiator water pipe, but it still does the same. Vehicle drives perfectly fine, so I doubt it could be the petrol pump building up pressure. What are the possibilities of this hard start, any advice / help would be highly appreciated.🤲🏻

I feel like I have the same issue the problem is that my clutch cable is still there but my clutch doesn't come all the way up and I can't get the car into gear, what could it be ?
@vehiclemaintenanceandrepai37902 жыл бұрын
It may need adjustment or the release bearing lever/actuator is cracked.

Is the cable longer bc its a European car?
@vehiclemaintenanceandrepai37903 жыл бұрын
It could be, Caleb here in South Africa there are 2 lengths, so one has to match it with the old one. But mostly the short one is used.
