That resource is Oil. so when oil dips the country falls behind on payments, when the oil returns have not been as predicted for the last 20 years and the dictator did nothing to reduce spending your country goes to pot. Funnily enough Donald trump has run the largest ever deficit between tax income and spending ever in US history. He has given massive tax breaks to many multinational countries and billionaires and multi millionaires, whilst continuing with Democratic levels of spending. My wife is from Barranquilla, when we first started dating and would travel to Colombia to see her family, the people were slowly leaving Venezuela to Colombia at the border. Now her city is filled with Venezuelan's who are TRYING to make their life in Colombia. Good, humble people...so sad. The most impressive thing is how quickly became like this... I still remember the other venezuela: rich, educated, modern, peacefull, with social democracy which was very advanced by that time. Socialism or capitalism .. Monarchy vs Republic .. If the leader is shitty, the country is shitty .. Just as if the driver is shitty, the vehicle will crash. Colombian here: For people seeing this keep in mind this footage and events in the video happened in february and march 2019, it does not reflect the current situation or the border, jumping to 2020 the border was close for most of the year and was open again in september 1 now the situation is the other way around and venezuelans a leaving Colombia because with the pandemic jobs and other ways of income as well as government help disappear completely, so they now are going back to Venezuela nut maduro don´t let them in.
