That was a real Landrover. The Defender. The best 4x4xfar. We have a 97 300tdi still going strong after 350000kms in Africa.

What happened to those stickers? I had one in my 1990 200TDI Defender. Along with a trusty "Nothing Moves Without Mechanical Engineers" IMechE sticker.
@richardcole95582 ай бұрын
@@philhealey4443they stopped using that sticker when someone pointed out it was incorrect ..😂😂..They forgot about the Landcruiser Amazon 80 series , truly the best 4x4 production vehicle ever built ..one of ours has 400,000 miles on it ..👍👍

@richardcole9558 Strangely enough I'm looking at testing the water with an ancient Landcruiser to complement 40 years of Land Rover ownership and 25 years of daily driver poverty spec G Wagens. They're all nearly as much fun as a Unimog, which I think really is the best 4x4xfar. You'll presumably tell me now that something inevitably with a Z in its name, out of Russia, is better !
@hughbatchelor85992 ай бұрын
@@philhealey4443 Actually the Unimog is the ultimate 4x4xfar but overall and because most people will never get to enjoy a Unimog the Landy Defender has to be the the Best4x4xfar. Yeah, I reckon you'd have to watch out for those Ruskys in their wheeled tanks.... Probably formidable performers, but would doubt their reliability.
@philhealey44432 ай бұрын
@hughbatchelor8599 We are aligned then. Pinzgauers certainly have a lot going for them, but often seem to capsize, whereas Mogs can just be aimed almost anywhere and arrive with ridiculous ease. And I'd swear they have a tighter turning circle than my first LWB LR Series One.

I really enjoy your weekly episodes. Each one makes me more grateful that I drive a 30 year old 300tdi discovery 1. Toyota levels of reliability, with mechanical simplicity that makes it repairable at the roadside with a hammer. So less stressful than a 3 or4 and every bit as capable off road.

I used to own Land Rovers. I had a 2004 Discovery 2, then a 1999 Discovery 1, then a 2001 Discovery 2. All with the V8 and the 4 speed ZF. Loved them, but then I moved onto Toyotas, and now Jeeps. Watching your videos reminds me of when I was a young teen fixing my Land Rover every day after school. Maybe I have to start thinking about getting another one…

Always lovely having to a job by feel rather than being able to see!! Well done Christian, it can be very tiring working like that. I have saved your endoscope into my Amazon account, I only have a cheap one and need to upgrade to an adjustable one. If it is good enough for a German engineer it will be OK for me. Otzi was covered in tattoos, most of which are not known but he had tattoo dots around his body, they turn out to be acupuncture points and when they checked, they matched the points you would use for the damage to his body. I find that remarkable.
