I remember the free service, during the day you had to keep re-dialing until it connected. At night there was no issue connecting. It was fast for what it was. They also had a “long distance” number that was never busy.

There is a Wifi 6 issue, where LAN to WAN upload is 300 or less. Wifi 5 performs better for most people. Maybe Wifi 6E will do better. I was going to buy that router just to try to resolve that. That CR1000A is made by Wistron NeWeb Corporation.

For 1 gig speed you need a faster router DOCIS 3.0 . Which i believe you figure out this by now. the CR1000A is for Fiber internet however there is no phone jack as phone speed is slower.

These types of routers are typically not super-high quality -- I was a little surprised at the 200+Mbps uploads. Anyway; found this today because I just upgraded from 25/25 to the 300/300 plan. During the initial installation of my FIOS, I got the ethernet handoff (which looks like what you have - no video, etc). Coming back in to research this device, I did a quick speedtest -- and they've already upgraded me. I didnt have a need to use their router (thank heavens) - and all my existing network is in place. I've never used one of their devices -- and generally I find their service fantastic. I'm looking forward to finding your review of the UI on the device.

Do you know if ethernet port on ONT has to be activated before installation. I have ONT where ethernet port is dead and my current modem gets the internet over coax. Do I have to call Verizon to activate ONT ethernet before the installation?

I am not sure, but let me tell you what i did. When I upgraded my Verizon speed from 200Mbps to 1GiG, I thought i would just have to reboot the ONT, but after three to four reboots, nothing happened. I called Verizon, they said that the new speed will be activated when i pickup there router & plug it in. The next day, i went & picked up the router, came home, plugged it in, rebooted the ONT , & presto, my 1GiG was active. Call them & ask, there may be something you need to do. Good luck, let me know what happens.

@@Larotian I know Verizon has a way of converting the coax/RF cable to Cat6 Ethernet, if necessary... When the Verizon tech came here he basically had to rewire my whole house with Ethernet cable, free of charge, and gave me a new router. I will say though, other than the UI on their app and website, everyone and everything else from Verizon was great. The installer was awesome, had a sense of humor, and he got everything done quicker than I'd expected. (I just bought the house in mid 2020 so I'm finding out all these wonderful things now that I'm a homeowner lol) National Fuel came and dug up my lawn and installed a new meter outside (not a smart meter), and essentially forced me to buy a new hot water tank lol... for $2300.

I plugged my modem, into the WAN port of the fios router, but you could also keep do other configurations. If I wanted to, I could have had my modem plugged into the WAN port of my old Orbi router, then plug the fios router WAN into a network/ switch port of the orbi router, there making a second network. The fios defaults to the 192. Private address, so you have to make sure your orbi has a different IP address.

I got this same deal from Verizon. The physical connection is solid, but I get less than 100 for upload speeds. I cannot figure out why. I have an Orbi connected, but it's an old one, however (only 100 MB if directly wired, but up to 1 Gig over Wifi). Without Orbi, I do not get same speeds on other levels of home. I am so frustrated with this... perhaps you have some insight? What am i doing wrong?

I would first confirm the physical connection speed by connecting the fios modem, the box / device that brings the internet to your home, to a laptop or computer & do a speed test, if it give you the same issue, call fios. If not, then there must be a setting not set correctly on the fios router.

what kind of switch do you have? is it a 1gb switch? im not getting the right speeds on my 1gbps fios setup.. i have the deco tplink connected to the 10gb lan port off of the verizon router in to its 2.5gb port... and a 1gb switch on the land port for wired devices.... i am getting 500mbps max upload/download.. have not tested speeds directly wired to the verizon fios router

I am using a t-plink sw, try connecting a laptop or computer to the router, see what speeds you get. Use a good known cable, it could be a bad cable or a cat 5 cable. You need a good cat 5e to. & above cable.

That router is huge. I just switch over to Xfinity from Fios. The router is much smaller and in my opinion, it looks better too. I was having problems with the "Home Network Protection". It locked me out of the primary network. I had to use the Guest Network to get stuff done. Even though Comcast is a little more expensive, the download speed is better 👍

My upload and download speeds dropped after installing this router, they never told me to updater my wifi adapter card. Changed to a new and faster card and now I get the full 1gig speed

@@mtandiz I think so too. I called Verizon and they told me the router was just an upgrade. I had issues with the cat6 connection to one computer so I sent it back. One computer doesn't have Wifi. They also told me they would send a tech to provide the landline.

Verizon Fios doesn't use modems. That black colored box is the ONT. If it is a few years old, it would be an Alcatel-Lucent (Nokia) 211. When signing up for multigigabit service, Verizon will replace the ONT with a similar looking one made by Calix.

I can’t find any details about this router, I think it’s too new. In the configuration , which , in the near future, I will make a video on, does not show 6E, just 6. I believe my iPad & iPhone support WiFi 6, but I don’t think they support 6E.

5G is frequency, 1 gig is speed. Example: 5G is the actual Running Track lane, made of rubber, soft, red in color, 1 gig is how fast you can run on the track. 2.4 GHz vs 5GHz, would be, example: 2.4Ghz Track would be 4 lanes wide, a 5GHz track would be 8 lanes wide. (5G & 5GHz is the same thing)

@@forza8719 i know there is an extender, but using coax, the router would need to have moca technology built in, it’s possible if the router has moca technology built in, otherwise you should be able to use Ethernet or wifi to make the connection between the router and the extender.

Could be an ip DHCP issue, make sure you only have one as the DHCP server, you may need to assign static ip to your router, or make it an access point

Yes you csn, but if you setup as a router, you will have a second lan ip address, with a second WiFi. You could also configure as an access point, which will allow it to act like an extended WiFi. You will need to physically connect it to you current network, but first configure router as an access point, then physically connect to your current WiFi network. It will pass all network traffic, including your private lan address , & it will give you access to anything on your lan, like printers, nas, etc…..,
