Thanks for the full details of each pen. Very interesting. I have the Sailor KOP (B) and it is so excellent that I am hooked and I don't use any other pen.

The KoP really is an amazing pen. Too expensive? Yes! No pen is worth that king of money but... it is just so great!
@sajjadhusain41463 жыл бұрын
I have both these pens. But my KoP is a Midnight Blue w/silver trim. They are both large, beautiful and truly excellent writers and, on balance, worth the price (to me, at least). The MB 149 is my sentimental favorite because it is an inheritance from my late father. But when comparing the two, objectively, I know that I actually like the Sailor KoP more, partly because I’m crazy about Sailor’s 21k nibs. But I prefer the MB 149’s piston filler more. I feel lucky to have both pens in my life. 🙂 edit: the nib on my 149 is a M; a zoom on my KoP. Also, I had to buy my Sailor at full price: $805. No regrets, obviously.

Worth the price "to me" is what matters. I think every pen out there is worth the price because anything is, if the individual who buys it thinks so. Value is always in the eye of the buyer.
@OdE-ObjectosdeEscrita3 жыл бұрын
I like the Sailor much, much more. I was lucky to buy it at half price and it is a very, very good pen. I have no emotional relation with these pens, however, both here bought by me and not a kind of a familiy treasure. I love Sailor nibs. Meanwhile, after making this video, the Montblanc died: the piston failed. I'm not sure I want to pay the cost of fixing it at Montblanc. (sorry for the late reply)
@sajjadhusain41463 жыл бұрын
@@OdE-ObjectosdeEscrita …Oh, sorry to hear about the misfortune with your Montblanc. These things always make me depressed when they happen. I don’t have any experience getting Montblanc’s after sales services, but I can guess they would charge a lot for repairing/replacing the piston mechanism. And you’re right to wonder if it’s worth it to you to pay for that. I’m passionate about all my Sailor pens. Their nibs are just outstanding, to say the least. And yes, I also love the Sailor KoP much more than many of my other pens. I confess to wanting to buy one more in the future.
@OdE-ObjectosdeEscrita3 жыл бұрын
@@sajjadhusain4146 I might pay for the repair. But then I don't like the architect nib. So... I would have to pay to repair a pen with a nib I don't enjoy. Or I would need to pay for the repair and for a replacement nib... it will get too expensive. Maybe I'll end up to sell it as is...
@sajjadhusain41463 жыл бұрын
@@OdE-ObjectosdeEscrita ..Oh, I forgot your pen has the architect nib. And that you’re not that happy with it. I have just one architect nib, actually a specially ground architect nib by a reputed American nibsmith. It comes for an extra $60 fitted with the Esterbrook Estie standard and oversized pens. I have it with one of my Estie pens. It takes some practice to get comfortable with it. But it’s certainly not for everyone. I like my cursive italics far better. Now that you said it, I think selling the pen is a better idea than reluctantly paying for parts repairs and replacements. Use the money to buy a Visconti or whatever. 😃

This is the video I didn't know I needed. I've never been interested in the Montblanc 149, except maybe if I get to the point I want a new pen, have money, and want a classic. But I have been interested in the Sailor King of Pen, though not this specific version. But what surprised me is that I came out of this video with a more favorable feeling toward the Montblanc. Maybe it's the architect nib. Still not ready to splash out that much cash yet! Kind of curious now how it compares to one of my favorite flagships: the Platinum President?
@OdE-ObjectosdeEscrita3 жыл бұрын
Really? I wasn't expecting that. 😀 I prefer the Sailor. I like it much more. But I guess both pens would have a fair price if they cost half of what they actually do. About Platinum President... I don't have any experience with that. The only President I have is the Senator. But I know you like your Platinum President a lot from your videos!

You put so much time and effort into each production that I can understand your need for a break, whether permanent or of limited duration. If you are tempted to resume the channel, we'll all be thrilled to follow you again, but remember, this is a hobby and if it feels like a job, something is wrong. Bon voyage, a bientot, mon ami.

Since I can’t afford any of these pens, a takeaway for me from this video is your opinion that these pens don’t deserve their 800 Euros full-price tag ! At least I’ve a consolation that I own a 3776 with similar looks and dimensions 😀 I wish sections on these pens were longer - Threads on the short section of 3776 bother me..
@OdE-ObjectosdeEscrita3 жыл бұрын
I think they may deserve the price... I just think I don't have the money to pay full price. So, in this case I think it is worth to look for opportunities to get them with a big discount. And sometimes those discounts may be found. The Platinum 3776 is smaller than these two.
@sajjadhusain41463 жыл бұрын
Sathish, I don’t know your main preference in nib size, but of my four, one of my 3776 pens has Platinum’s ‘C’, i.e. ‘Coarse’ nib ( a double broad) and another with the Music nib. Truly fantastic writing experience. The 3776 is a pen with a great value on price.
@sathishrao79263 жыл бұрын
@@sajjadhusain4146 My preference is M.. BTW, I had sent my 3776 (F) for smoothening and I received the smoothened 3776 just a couple of hours ago and I like it better than before for sure ! I bought 3776 for almost half the price because of a pricing error in the website, so no complaints !!
@sajjadhusain41463 жыл бұрын
@@sathishrao7926 ..Oh, good to hear that. A nicely smoothed out F should be very nice, especially since it’s commonly heard that the 3776 fine nib feels sort of scratchy because the nib already has the Platinum feedback which is either loved or disliked, rarely anything in between. 🙂 And the 3776 can be bought for as low as $75-80, or certainly

I'm not that fond of either pen. I'm just not a fan of all black pens. The 149 is a pretty cheap pen, and every Montblanc I've owned or used was an excellent writer, but that look does nothing for me. I've owned two 149s, traded for them, and then traded them away. Good pens, just not my color and look. I thought about buying one of the Montblanc writer pens, but only if I get a great deal. I buy some cheap pens now and then, from about a hundred and fifty on down, but I really want to own another Namiki Maki-e and a Namiki Chinkin. For pens like this I have to save for a good long while, and resist buying other expensive pens. I have all the Visconti pens I wanted, the Montegrappa pens have finally made their way into my hands, and I have two Scribo Feel pens, which write like a dream. I have a number of other gold nib pens that are all good writers. I still need to buy a couple of Conway Stewart pens, but that's it, and they don't cost much. So it's probably nothing but cheap pens now and then until I can get the Maki-e and the Chinkin, and that will not be soon. I love the Namiki Maki-e and Chinkin pens, and I believe they're worth every penny, but in my income bracket the only way to buy one is with a lot of patience and self-discipline.
@OdE-ObjectosdeEscrita3 жыл бұрын
I agree that some expensive pens may be worth the price. But... Sometimes it is very hard to spend so much in one pen. Personally, the Monblanc 149 doesn't impress me. I prefer the Sailor much more. You talked about Conway Stewart pen... I think I will need to get one, someday. And believe me, for Portuguese salaries, there are pens that can be too expensive! (sorry for the late reply)
