You should try a loop knot , it allows to jig to float up horizontally naturally

Loop knot with jigs is a must. I usually leave about 1/4 inch loop and it looks and moves beautifully in the water.

I used loot knots when I'm free-flowing jigs and double jig rigs.

I recently started crappie fishing what are the best baits and techniques to catch crappie I have seen this technique before but I'm not sure about the Bates any info would be greatly appreciated

1/32 Oz jig head hook or 1/16 Oz hook size #4 is good size. Bobby Garland baby shad jigs. Or hand tied jigs are great. A lot of people sell hand tied jigs on Facebook in fishing groups. I like chartreuse and pink or chartreuse and gold for dingy water. And pearl white. Blue thunder and bleeding shad colors for Clear water. Bleeding shad colors works in both pretty good.
